I've always loved reading a classic with a twist. It's no wonder that I've fallen for One Thousand and One Nights. This manhwa takes the tale of Arabian Nights and creates a story filled with treachery and betrayal, hope and courage, and love and its power to heal.
Story:
The story follows a young sultan named Shahryar who proposes a terrifying ultimatum for all the young women called to his harem: if the girl is a virgin, she is to die by the hand of the sultan; if she is not, she is to die by the hand of a close male relative.
To Sehara's horror,
...
his younger sister has been called to the sultan's harem. In order to save her, Sehara disguises himself and takes his sister's place. Of course, it is not long before Sehara is disovered and senteced to death.
However, Sehara doesn't throw himself on the floor and plead for mercy, like you'd expect him to. Instead, he turns to Shahryar and says, "I'd like to tell you a story."
And thus begins the story of One Thousand and One Nights.
Art:
The art is beautiful. The art is gorgeous. No two characters look the same, and every little piece of scenery is thoughfully and tactfully placed. The backgrounds? Why, they make you feel as if you, yourself, are in the sultan's palace.
Character:
A paragraph ago, I said that no two characters look the same. The same is true of their personalities. Shahryar, the sultan, is impulsive, moody and unstable. Sehara is like water: fluid and cool, calm and forgiving. We also come across variety of characters in Sehara's stories: a cold and ruthless princess, a witty prince, an Egyptian queen, a Roman conqueror, a Greek philospher, and many more.
Enjoyment & Overall:
At first, I planned to read a chapter or two and then get something to eat. An hour later, when my stomach growled, I realized that I was about to start the third volume. One Thousand and One Nights--its art, its plot, its characters-- it really got me hooked. Each of Sehara's stories were tragic and captivating and each had its own moral.
Needless to say, I really enjoyed One Thousand and One Nights. If you love a fresh take on a classic, or even if you're just looking for something to read, give One Thousand and One Nights a shot. I'm sure you'll enjoy it too.

We have a crown prince born out of wedlock, a mysterious bard, a shunned tribe of people, and power-hungry government officials pulling the strings from the shadows. Put it all together, and what do we get? One amazing manga!
STORY (10)
The story takes you back to a time and place where corrupt nobles take advantage of the fact that the king of the country is sick and unable to rule well. Enter Belca, (the crown prince born out of wedlock) an outcast who wants nothing to do with royalty. With his brother, Orcelito (legitimiate crown prince), Belca accidentally uncovers one of the nobles' well kept secrets.
...
When the brothers try to escape, Belca and Orcelito get separated; Orcelito is left at the mercy of the nobles while Belca is rescued by a stranger. Thus begin Belca's adventures!
This manga has a little bit of everything: theres a dash of cross-dressing, a hint of shounen-ai, a pinch of romance, a dark and twisted plot and LOTS of comical scenes.
ART (10)
I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this art. It looks so clean and simple, yet when you look closely, there are all these amazing details. . .
Additionally, its not so easy to draw. My friend and I have both attempted to draw Eco, one of the characters, and it took us forever to come up with a (barely) decent imitation. Mind you, we both got over 90's in art class.
CHARACTERS (10)
The characters are really amazing too. Everyone has a distinct personality. There's Prince Orcelot, who's adorable and optimistic, but has no idea of how evil people can be. There's prince Belca who doesnt realize his own value, feels like an outsider in his own home, yet does everything he can for those who are loyal to him. He is open to new ideas and has shown considerable growth in just 2 volumes. And there's Eco (my personal favorite) who's funny and quirky, but extremly devious and clever.
You feel like you know these characters as you read the manga (well, at least I did).
ENJOYMENT (10)
I enjoyed this. A lot. You will too. Definitely. As long as you give it a try. Its not some boring history textbook. It focuses on characters and their relations to history. As you read, you wonder "how will this character react?" or "what will happen to this person?" and the characters never fail to surprise you.
OVERALL (10)
+C: Sword and Cornett is (according to MyAnimeList's definition of a "10") outstanding. If you're looking for something to read, or even if you're not, I suggest you give it a try. See for yourself, you wont be disappointed~

Personally, I didnt LOVE this manga.
Others, however might find it pretty enjoyable. I dont like beating around the bush, so lets get straight to business~
STORY (8)
The story is pretty good--its somewhat original, at least. You have a popular interactive cell phone game called RABBIT DOUBT and a group of kids who suddenly find themselves experiencing firsthand the horror of having no one to trust in life-or-death circumstances.
"How does this happen?" you might ask.
Well, these kids are trapped in a dark, underground maze in the middle of nowhere. And they discover one of their friends brutally murdered in a room. They realize that the
...
killer is among them and desperately search for a way out. 'Cept, they all suspect one another, and while they waver between doubt and trust, the killer strikes again!
ART (9)
I lurve this art style. I think you'll like it too. I hope you do.
The facial expressions are nice, you can tell when someone's confused or scared. The creepy scences look creeeeepy. And you can practically tell how unnerving it feels to be in that dark, dank, windowless middle-of-nowhere.
CHARACTERS (6)
Ugh. This was my least favorite part of the manga. The girls were clingy and weak and wimpy and insecure. Forget having no flavor, these girls left a bad taste in my mouth. I tried to like them. I really did. But there's only so much ANYONE can put up with.
The others were OKAY, but they werent amazing. They were all too busy suspecting each other and trying to make it out alive to try to make a good impression, I guess.
ENJOYMENT (7)
If you've read/seen Death Note, Code Geass, or maybe if you've read other psychological/horror themed manga, this isnt anything AMAZING. But its worth a read, if you're looking for something to kill time with. Going by the MyAnimeList definition of "7", its "good." Its not "very good" or "fair". Its not "great" or "mediocre". Its simply "good".
OVERALL (7)
Math time! (8+9+6+7)/4 = 7.5
BUT, MAL does not have a 7.5 in their scoring system.
So I'm going to be a little unfair here and round it down to a 7. Why? Like I said, its "good" but, in my humble opinion, not VERY good. Blame it on the wimpy characters.
I hope this helped, and I hope I wasnt too biased~
