This anime is a top contender for this year's most boring anime, it contains a copious amount of pointless babble while having little action. How does Vinland Saga go from an action-packed show with a cast of characters with each their own complex and unique point of views to just about Einar and Thorfinn talking for 15 episodes straight?
Story: 0/10
A boring plot centered around Thorfinn on how he lives as a slave along with the stories of other slaves. I get it, it's meant to be Thorfinn's redeeming arc and his new realization of how he should live his life. He's changed! He ain't
...
the same person he was a year ago, but god did every episode have to be so drawn out with dialogue? Where's the action? Where's the adventure? Just label this as a drama anime at this point. They took everything the audience had enjoyed from the first season, threw it out the window, took the dialogue, amplified that by a hundred-fold and made it about the struggles of a slave - heck even I started to feel like one after having to be put through this tediousness of an anime.
Characters: 0/10
None, literally none of the characters can be seen as even close to intriguing.
Thorfinn starts off as a broken man, then get's better the moment he fights some dude named Snake. Okay, so why doesn't the show stick to more of that? Because they need to spend more time reminding the audience of how broken Thorfinn is through every episode.
Einar makes 0 sense, his family got massacred, but he seems chill about it. He has no sense of vengeance, except during that one time he almost choked Thorfinn to death for it, yet failed to have any real killing intent towards the actual people responsible for their deaths - even his little sister showed more resistance than he did. Other than that, yea, he's just a dim-witted and bland side character with really nothing of substance to say.
Arnheid is just there solely for the purpose of playing a sort-of love interest to Einar as well as playing that one nice woman in an anime that gets mistreated, so that instantly makes her a good side character. She reveals the sad events that led to her enslavement, but why should the audience care? Well, simply because she's friendly with Einar, a character that no one cares about in the first place.
Art: 6/10
The only decent aspect of this anime.
Sound: 1/10
Non-existent music, just boring background sounds while the characters talk. Don't know what the OP or ED sound like because I usually try to spend as little of my day watching this anime.
Enjoyment: 0/10
If you enjoy listening to people talk non-stop while you stand there watching, then this anime will make you feel right at home because you are going to be digesting a ton of dialogue from every episode while it provides nothing else. It's dull, and it drags on for far too long to be seen as good character development for Thorfinn. A massive downgrade from what the previous season offered.
