Story: This is the story of a girl who is on a journey to find love. She was a killing machine in the war and is not very good at understanding the emotions of people, or even certain words. This is due to the fact she was orphaned as a child. Now that the war is over she is on a journey as Auto-Memory Doll, Violet Evergarden, learning about emotions as she helps people write theirs into letters. When I first started watching it was pretty interestng but I thought it was an weird theme and was going to be another cliched girl learns emotions

anime. It exceeded my expectations, though. It was a heartwarming tale of Violet Evergarden, the young girl from the war. Throughout her journey as an Auto-Memory Doll, she went to many different places to write letters for people, in which we learned about their stories of love as well. This show had me crying the entire time and thinking about what love is to me
Art: The art for this anime was absolutely beautiful. Each scene has so much well-drawn detail that I felt I was in the story. The characters were all beautiful and well-drawn. They were able to show emotion well in the eyes. This show has many scenes showing lovely views of nature and it's clear they intended to do those well. Even people who didn't like the show would have to admit that this is some pretty art.
Character: The main character in this series was Violet Evergarden. Her emotional growth in this series was immense, her turning from an orphan, only trying to survive, to an (almost) emotionless killing machine, who only cared for her commander, to a girl who cries and knows what love is. The other countless characters we meet have deep feelings and unique personalities. It's hard to dislike any character or at least understand their feelings. Assuming there really is a season 2 (which, with that ending there better be), I am hoping to learn more about the other supporting characters.
Overall: I didn't realize while watching this how fantastic of a show it would be. I sped through it in two days, so deeply moved by all the emotions of the characters. I highly recommend it, and truly hope a season 2 is on the way.

I will try not to include any more than necessary, but this post will contain spoilers.
Suicide discussed.
Story: The synopsis is a very good description of what the story is about, but to me it was much more interesting than that. This story is fun and light-hearted at times and deep and dark at other times. As someone who is depressed and has attempted suicide multiple times it really hit home. What would have happened if I had been successful? What would the future of those around me have been like? Would they have regrets, too? Would they hate me? It is definitely a series to

put things into perspective. I related immensely to Kakeru, but also Naho and Suwa. This story can weigh heavily but it's definitely heart-warming as well. Seeing how much the characters love Kakeru is amazing, especially Suwa. Society makes it seem as though boys can't show feelings, but their friendship is beautiful. The love story is sweet as well. The letters from the past, time travel portions were VERY interesting, but I wish there was more details about it. I also wish there were more details about the ending and what happened in the future.
Art: The art in this series is visually appealing, although its nothing I haven't seen before. In pictures with scenery it is usually nicely done. The characters are easy to tell apart and are all attractive/adorable. Very clean.
Character: The six main characters in this series are all very lovable. They all have their own distinctive personalities but their tight-knit relationship is amazing. There is definitely character development throughout the series, and that is one of the main parts of the story. I found it very easy to relate to the main characters. There were some villainous characters to hate but overall the characters were all very sweet. The only issue I had was that the back stories of characters weren't included, as well as some of the characters weren't really touched on.
I just happened to stumble upon this at the library and finished it in 4 hours. It was extremely good. If you or anyone you know has struggled with depression, this is very enlightening. It made me want to keep fighting to live, even though I hate living. I cried a ton, but I also found myself smiling and chuckling, and I loved the sci-fi bits. Overall I enjoyed it immensely.
I just finished the short story included, Haruiro Astronaut. It was pretty adorable. I probably would read a full few novels about it.

When I was in middle school I used to rent this from the library, but I never completed it as they didn't have all the copies. Now that I'm an adult I decided to purchase the collector's edition after receiving Barnes and Noble gift card for Christmas. I bought and read the entire collector's edition series in a month. I own a bit of manga but this is the first series I have owned and finished.
Story: The story is probably my favorite part of this manga. The Synopsis is a pretty good description of what it is about. If you love folklore, fantasy, friendship, romance,

and overcoming hardship, this story is for you. The way in which the lives' of all the characters intertwined was truly spectacular. It made me laugh, smile, gasp, and cry. I can't really say what I want without spoiling it, but READ THIS SERIES. The last volumes, chapters, and ending made me quite happy
Art: This was the first manga I ever read as a child so I have a soft spot for the art. It's not exactly beautiful but still appealing to the eyes. Many of the girls/younger characters are quite cute, and I think some of the males are quite handsome. The author broke her hand in the middle of the series so the art changed sorta drastically after that, but it was very easy to get used to. I personally preferred the older style as there were a few characters that looked too similar after the change and I feel some looked better before, but I know it's not Takaya's fault. Some people think it was better after the change, which I can understand as they matured in style and age throughout the series, but I guess my nostalgic self likes the older style. The colored pictures in the collector's edition books are quite lovely.
Character: There is a plethora of characters in this series, mostly Sohmas, since they align with the animals of the Chinese Zodiac. Even though there are many characters to learn I didn't find it very difficult to learn the names and personalities. Most of the characters in this series have very distinctive personalities, making it quite fun when they interact. Most (if not all) of the characters have been through extreme hardship. Even the ones who seem cruel still make you feel sympathetic for them. I can honestly say that many of these characters make me want to be a better person. Not to spoil anything, but at a certain point in school new characters are introduced, and I somewhat struggled to figure out their names' and stories. I only wish they would have stepped further into the backgrounds of some characters, but the series can't go on forever. The character development is pretty great for most of the characters.
I spent a majority of this series crying tears of sadness and joy. This series will send you on an emotional roller coaster while telling an interesting story. I can honestly say it's a spectacular manga series and I will probably reread it again and again. I have to give it a 10/10.
(This is my first review, so I hope it's okay!)
