The King's Avatar movie is a pretty enjoyable movie to watch. However, as a standalone movie, the shortcomings become to show, particularly in the story and character department.
Art: The art is beautiful, on par with some great Japanese anime. The animation, aside from the hit or miss parts before the final climax, is excellent as well. The final fight between the MC and the last opponent, especially, was godly.
Sound: The OST is pretty good as well. Especially on the final fight with, combined with the animation, makes it a great experience to watch.
Story: Now this is where the flaws begin. This story serves as a
...
prequel before the entire main series. However, even then, the plot was rushed, especially since you're cramming a prequel novel into a 90 minutes movie. There's seem to be pretty rushed directing as well, since between the time of the team forming to the finals except for one point in between, it's just going to places to places. It's sufficient as a companion piece, but as a standalone, it fell short
Character: Likewise, because of how rushed the story was, the character development were rushed as well. Aside from MC, his best friend and the sister, the other characters' development were lacking. We didn't know much about them aside from the Spellblade guy.
Overall: Despite the shortcomings in the story and character department, plus some hit-or-miss animations before the finals, it's a very enjoyable movie to watch to fill in the time while waiting for Season 2.
My recommendation is watch at least Season 1 (and maybe the OVA) before jumping onto the movie.

Ok, this review is long overdue, but screw it.
Shiyan Pin Jiating is a pretty enjoyable slice of life donghua. While I do find the art to be pretty good, the sound is good as well and the characters are very likeable, the major sticking point was the story in each of the episodes.
Art: The art style is pretty good and it does give an impression that it's an animated version of a real life place being filmed in. The animation is also alright as well and given that it might be a small production donghua, unlike bigger productions like it's fellow donghuas 'King's Avatar' and
...
'Mo Dao Zhu Shi' and the Japanese SOL counterparts like 'Wotaku' and 'Tada-kun', it's impressive.
Sound: The OP is great actually. The song is good to hear and actually describes the donghua as a whole. For sound effects, they're alright.
Character: They're the selling point. The four siblings (barring the genius kid) are all genetically modified by their parents and has to live the lives of being monsters in our world. The characters are very likeable and have fun and unique personalities, yet relate-able since their actions have consequences in a world that never accepts people in the outlier. You can tell it's a good Chinese donghua if the character's actions are given consequences extremely realistically (Sorry Japan, had to poke fun at you).
Story: Now this is the main point that kinda put the score lower. If I have to summarise, each subplots have introduction and conclusions and while they're good, the problem is that there seems to be a lack of body, if any. There's some subplots that has a good introduction only to straight up cut away to the conclusion, which is jarring and out of place. Being that each episode is only 15 minutes as opposed to the 30 minutes we expect from... most cartoons we watch around the world, this doesn't help and was one way that held this donghua back. I read the manhua a bit (they're all in Chinese so I could only guess what they're saying judging by their actions) and given the implication at the end of Episode 12, I think just cramming many subplots in those 15 minutes episodes kinda made everything rushed and honestly not that worth it overall.
Overall: This donghua is pretty enjoyable aside from rushed sub-stories that caught me off-guard. The characters are likeable, the art is excellent and the sound is good

If there's one thing I have to say about this anime: It's incredibly generic. The music and art is very nice and I thoroughly enjoyed it, but it seemed like the anime played way too safe to the point they're not taking any risks.
Story: This part is its weak point. The story felt like those generic original stories you find on Wattpad, Fictionpress or Quotev trying to be the next Disney movie. Because it is. It's very predictable to the point that you can just go in blind and able to make an accurate picture of what's going to happen next, plays way too safe
...
and the context of the story has been done a million times over every media you can imagine. Now, that doesn't mean they screwed up the most generic story a 5 year old can think of, which thankfully they didn't, and I do like to watch it when I get home from uni, there is this plot twist that kinda got me off guard and I thought this anime starts getting interesting, but other than that, it doesn't have anything that'll excite me.
Art: I find the art style to be pretty good. The environment is pretty and the characters look nice. Although that chest on Pony is distracting and out of place for this anime. The animations, I had to say is alright. Most part, the animators did well, but there's some part that are choppy that my eyes snap to and I get distracted because of it. Like someone disappearing on a horse out of thin air. I didn't know how that happened since it's 2D.
Sound: The music is pretty good. Konomi Suzuki's and Yukari Tamura's singing were pretty excellent and I do find the OP and ED catching and got me in. But compared to other animes of the season, the music is generic. As for the sound effects.... ehhh alright I guess.
Characters: Just like the story: incredibly generic and you can predict their personalities just by face value. That glasses boy? An aspiring scientist and the smart guy of the group. The knight guy? Knight in Shining Armour that's always good and the princess falls to. That General? General Ripper. Hell, even the two main characters? Pretty much Anna and Elsa in anime. Hell, you could tell their personalities just by their attractiveness. If they look good, that's because they're good. If they look dark and/or ugly, expect them to be against you or dicks. That doesn't mean I don't like them (in fact I do like the glasses boy who wants to be a scientist and the smart guy of the group, and Anime!Anna), but nothing about them is any original. I've seen these tropes applied to these guys with slight variations.
Enjoyment: While the genericness of the story and characters distract me a lot, I do enjoy the anime especially for the music and maybe the art. I've heard that this is Konomi Suzuki first take on being the MC of the anime and honestly, she did alright.
Overall, this anime is generic and doesn't stand out in that season. It tries way too hard to be a family friendly Disney anime, but it comes off as a team of amateurs trying to write a story that's BEING a family friendly Disney anime. If I wanna watch something similar to this, I'd go and buy a ticket or stream some Disney movie like Frozen, or go to Wattpad, Fictionpress or Quotev and read their stories there.

In summary, I felt that the movie was good at least, if not great. There was many drama and cutting some loose ends from the anime. Now the reason why I said some was that there's still some other loose ends which are pretty essential, and this movie has covered some, but also created more.
The story. It has many potential and they covered nearly all. Although there are some comedy, they stuck to the point, which didn't leave me hanging. They pretty much answered many questions. Personally, it was amazing, but the reason why I said "nearly all" was the fact that by the end,
...
it was just it. I meant I asked many questions "What happened to this?" and "What happened to that?", so on and so forth. I just begged more questions.
The art. Long story short, outstanding. The animation, the visuals, everything, just great.
The sound. They're great. Sounds effects, awesome. Music, beautiful. It could've been flawless, had they timed it right on some parts.
Characters. The movie covers mostly on the two main characters: Mirai and Akihito. I felt connected to them as they had to get through the suffering, especially from Akihito, as from the end of Kako-hen in the bonus scene (you better watch it first). The movie also told us the fate of the characters that went missing. However, the movie was so focused on these two that it left many other characters behind, including Mitsuki and Hiroomi. These two were pretty much left standing around, except for one scene where they find out who the masked person was, but even then, they weren't covered as much. Sakura and Ai-chan, yeah, they're just there.
Enjoyment, it was good, but like I said before, it left me hanging around. It made me ask more questions both from the end of the anime and the end of the movie.
Overall, it's a very good experience. Although it answered some questions, it does inherit some flaws from the series.
Despite some flaws above, I personally recommend you watch the movie, if you watched the anime/Kako-hen of course. It's a great film.
