The city of Iwaki in Fukushima prefecture is known as the "Hawaii of Japan" because of the "Spa Resort Hawaiians" resort and theme park. Both anime focus on this resort. Aru Otoko no Ikikata is about the history of the resort coming into fruition while Hulaing Babies is the modern aftermath of being the center of Japan's own little Hawaii for the last half decade through a local school's club.

These use the same dream team: director Shinkai, character designer: Jun Oson, Nasu voicing: Matsuda and Wada, Shigeki voicing: Sweets and Morino and Blanco, Yusuke voicing: Araki. The chemistry between these industry professionals creates a hilarious atmosphere of datsuryoku-kei comedy. With only a few minutes screen time they fabricate a story at impeccable speed with strong cadence. Which has let to the extreme success of both series as they ran for several years (Meisaku-kun is still running with over 100 eps and Chuugaku received over 400 episodes).

Osomatsu-san
|
The two shows revive famous Shouwa Era anime--while Osomatsu is a sequel, Enma is a remake. They cater towards an adult crowd who watched the originals as children but do not require the watcher to have seen the originals to whole-heartedly enjoy the revivals. The display of never-ending gags, ecchi/dirty/toilet humor comedy, and a multitude of hyper parodies is a delight to watch.

Taishou Yakyuu Musume.
|
Both series take place during the Taishou era in Japan. And follow young women trying to fight the archaic Japanese role of women being "seen not heard", being a proper wife (cooking and cleaning and other Yamato Nadeshiko ideology), and submitting to the decisions of male figures in their lives. They attempt to do 'boy' things such as practicing kendo in "Haikara-san ga Tooru" and playing baseball in "Taishou Yakyuu Musume." which ultimately are given grief from their teachers and parents. Granted both anime show the girls putting up a good fight but they do quickly submit to the romance and arranged marriages forced upon them as typical of any anime with these tropes.

Both of these series are composed of mini-stories which try to promote the tourism industry in a certain region in Japan. Toyama tries to go for an alternative art style in each episode to draw viewers in. While Four Season tires to go for an alternative story style in each episode to draw the viewer in. The love for their region overflows in each series. And each episode ends with real video and real photographs of the area that was covered to give the watcher realistic perspective of the region.

Sougen no Ko Tenguri

Both stories revolve around a young boy in Tibet as he grows to love a natural Tibetian animal which allows him to grow into a man (metaphorically). While the lad in Inu Monogatari doesn't love his home initially, he grows to appreciate the simple way of life there as the dog teaches him courage. In Tenguri, the lad loves his home but doesn't love the simple way of life which would cost him the life of his dear yak. Luckily, the yak teaches him a very valuable skill that will forever shape the Tibetian people. If you want a heart-warming series about the simple way of life, then these are the movies for you.

Both of these series are composed of mini-stories which try to promote the tourism industry in a certain region in Japan. Koitabi tries to go for a romance angle trying to invoke heartfelt emotion in the watcher to visit Nanto. While Toyama Kankou tries to go for the indie angle by having various creators with various art styles try to tell their own 'love' for Toyama. In both, each episode ends with real video and real photographs of the area that was covered to give the watcher realistic perspective.

Arashi no Yoru ni: Himitsu no Tomodachi

Both stories revolve around the relationship between wolves and goats. In the Xi Yang Yang Yu Hui Tai Lang franchise Wolnie actively tries to eat the goats but is outwitted or needs the help of Weslie for something else. In Arashi no Yoru ni, Gabu tries to keep his hunger at bay as he treasure the friendship with Mei. As a whole the series show that a person is greater than the role they're born into. There is a difference in animation styles as Xi Yang Yang Yu Hui Tai Lang is flat flash-animation with some CG backgrounds. Arashi no Yoru ni is completely CG. Both are non-traditional animation in the anime world so that may be worth your while.

Both stories revolve around the male protagonist suddenly in charge of a female incapable of taking care of herself, that barely speaks a full cognitive sentence, and who loves melon bread.
