Dandadan is a shallow, immature shitpost, and the most hyped of this season, which says a thing or two. (It's a cold dry season...) It's lighthearted, funny, sometimes cringe inducing, but perfect if you need some time to waste or a nicely animated show to get your mind off things. No, you will not find deep life lessons here, but you will find entertainment and a wild plot and fun yet also cringey interactions between the loudspoken Momo and nerdy Okarun. There's no reason to make it what it isn't or expect it to be more than it is. Is it cliche? There are some
...
pretty cliche tropes, but it's on a crazy foundation, so I recommend this for anyone who'd enjoy some mind dumbing anime shit with amazing animation and soundtrack.

I was really hesitant to start this when I saw that it was a 3D anime, after all my experience with with genre has never been very good, and even Suzume failed to deliver the same charm that I still believe it would have had it been produced a few years later or in 2D.
And yet I was drawn in by the first episode. It's a bit cliche, yes. (Jellyfish Can't Swim had the same opening after all.) I guess I'm a bit of a sucker for stories about helping small artists. The dynamic between Momoka and Nina from the beginning was adorable. Nina
...
herself was just full of surprises, but I'll save my complaints for later.
Animation was a solid 6/10 for me. Not bad, not amazing, but pretty decent and just a slight bit above my expectations. The first clip I saw of GBC, I was really turned away because of it, but I got used to it in time. I think it even improves as the show progresses. The rendering and shadows/lighting is a bit too harsh and unpolished for my taste, especially as an anime. There were also a few clunky movements, although it was verrrrrry smooth in most scenes. You can't compare it to ZZZ or WUWA, but because the genre's severely different, I think it's alright to not be held to the same standards.
The songs were supposed to be rock, but it's not heavy metal like LOVEBITES. It's closer to mainstream J-rock, which I was surprised because Momoka was all about not jumping on trends... when the music she makes sound pretty mainstream? They're not bad songs in any case. 7/10
Now for my grievances:
I cringed through half of this show, gritted my teeth, and managed to get through it. All due to our protagonist Nina. Are her actions cringe because I think she is or is she cringe because her actions are? I don't even know at this point.
Nina is a socially inept girl that basically repels with society. Oil and water. I know it's partly due to her trauma, but I die three times each episode. She comes in with not just a few fatal flaws, but an armful that suffocates unassuming watchers. She doesn't understand how to interact with people, always going on the offensive and becoming aggressive at the smallest thing. She makes lighthearted moments too serious, always willing to dive deep or pry about pasts when it obviously makes the other person uncomfortable. She's selfish even as she does what she believes are helpful deeds, and fails to put herself in other's shoes, always working on her own agenda. She's rash and immature and jumps into things she doesn't understand. She's narcissistic in the way that she accuses others of the things she herself commits. She runs away at the slightest pressure and fails to communicate properly. I have more pages I've written ranting on her as a person, but it's already too much. She does learn and get some character development by the end, although I will tell you, there's a painful stretch in the middle. She's very fortunate to have friends that deal with her and try to help her understand these things about human relationships. I think it can be charming, although not for me. The shift of focus away from her was such a breath of relief. She works well as an annoying side character. I still rooted for her even as it was painful... the second hand embarrassment was enough to knock me out. If they were aiming for a flawed character, they sure did succeed.
Another gripe I have with her is her long, life update speeches before each concert. The audience didn't pay for that. They're here for music, for entertainment. Keep it short, sweet, and to the point. Lead it into some music. I think they should start selling that as a quirk of the band with how often Nina does it. She and Momoka also should've gone viral with how often they argued in public. If not viral at least a local tourist attraction.
Complaints aside, Nina can be pretty badass sometimes too, so it's not all bad. I do love the supporting characters too. They feel very dynamic fleshed out.
I did enjoy the conflicts in the group and the realistic ideals from Momoka (or basically the rest of the group compared to Nina). The success they achieved wasn't anything big but I found that realistic.
The season ended with some loose ends, so I don't mind watching more of GBC, although I would not put myself through season 1 again. It's like sandwich. Started out well, sludged through some, and ended with a decent (though small) boom.
Also, I felt a bit yuri baited halfway through, especially with the way things were worded, but I forgave it because there was very little buildup.

Oh lord. I don't think I can make it to season 2. I've already DNF'd this anime once, not because of the weird implications of when Rudeus met Sylphie or of when he met Eris but because I got annoyed that everything just ended in the mana disaster.
I get now why they don't recommend this to anime beginners, and maybe I should've waited a few more seasons before I watched this, but the positive reviews convinced me. I love this anime. The art and facial expressions are amazing. You can expect the feels to hit during the emotional scenes.
But lord did it make me
...
so uncomfortable. Paul, I swept under the rug since he wasn't the main character. But it wasn't even Rudeus' pervertedness since I was so sure that Rudeus would change. Like Paul, he can be a good person at points. I waved away his advances towards Eris since I thought he really was trying to stop and was just teasing her.
But the scene in the second to last episode (and this is the only spoiler), the one that everyone thought was so sad... although I'm glad that he'd stopped and thought about it, I wished he'd done more than hesitate because obviously, he's still mentally 40 and she was obvious still mentally a child. I really thought I could trust him on this. Even though both parties were consenting, she doesn't really know what she is consenting to, does she? I know she loves him, but I don't think she understands whether she loves him like that. Becoming of age doesn't make you suddenly changed into an adult and I really thought Rudeus could be the bigger guy here, but obviously I was wrong.
But anyhow some people don't care that much about all that, and I must say the controversial topics make Mushoku Tensei what it is. I doubt so much attention would've been brought to it otherwise. It's meant to disgust and discomfort and it does just that. Imagine if the whole story had been told in Roxy's perspective. Most people would've just waved it off as another classic isekai with your classic good can-do-no-wrong protagonist.
Although I suppose that's why stuff like Frieren exist. For people like me who can't stomach these moral implications that are too out of our comfort zones. I might come back after binging it a few times because despite everything, the animation and world building is insanely good. So good that even if it had been a Roxy-based story, I'm sure there would still be a sizeable fan base.

This anime is literally a dream come true for my childhood self. I've been searching for a spy anime, and this just happened to be perfect.
The ART.
I love it. I'd see all those game openings with this cute art style and wish for an anime with it. There is a pretty obvious use of CGI and 2D blend in one scene that I don't think looks right, but all the 2D animations are beautiful.
The characters.
Our main character, Ange is exactly what my 9 year old self wanted in a female protagonist. She's trained as a spy, calm and collected during missions, and great at
...
acting. All the boxes checked. The other characters also have very distinct personalities with backstories woven well into each of their missions. The story telling is really something else. Even the background characters become rather likeable.
The soundtrack/music.
I'm not one to really remember music from an anime, but they were absolute bops! So fitting for each scene.
The fight scenes.
They weren't particularly flashy or colorful, but still very well animated. And the steampunk style is just chef's kiss!
The story.
It's made up of individual stories that each make up the main plot, although some episodes seem to deviate from the main mission, as headquarters keep assigning missions to the girls, but those missions help with character development or world building. The main plot is very slow, with us just learning everything about the characters and the political aspect. I personally prefer this.
It's a great spy anime to binge with interesting characters, pretty art, and honestly, I find little to nitpick about it.

Surprisingly, this spin-off is my favorite of the Konosuba series. I suspect this is because of the absence of our regular MC. There's a good deal less pervy jokes, but whether this is a letdown or not depends on the person.
This spin-off is all about Megumin, our Crimson Demon explosion magic expert.
I love Yunyun and Megumin's banter and relationship in this. I would even say the romantic tension between them is more than any other characters. (Kidding!)
Some say that this is a watered down version of Konosuba, which is true because the main party isn't there, and the only ones important in the cast
...
is just Megumin and Yunyun. (And Chomosuke!) But I don't think it really takes away from at all.
Megumin grows a considerable bit in the anime, and her changes from the beginning and end are pretty noticable.
I think I have some newfound respect for Konosuba after finding out that there are boring-er stuff out there. It has a way of keeping you more or less entertained for a good while.

Nichijou has no plot and it needs no plot. It's not meant to be taken seriously. It's meant to be a comedy you watch when you're bored as hell and want something funny. Don't go into it searching for a plot and an exciting story. It has unrealistic stories and simple characters and it's only good for relaxed enjoyment.
This anime is not in any way realistic, but it's relatable in the way that the characters depict the characteristics of people you might know. Such as the teacher who's extremely shy and tries to put up a brave face and that one classmate who won't admit
...
defeat.
The art is simple and it perfectly fits this anime.
How funny an anime is is subject to the viewer, and I won't say it made me laugh non-stop, but there are some pretty funny moments.
