NO SPOILERS!!! Here we go, my very very first review... So, I went into Zenshu not really knowing what to expect, but MAPPA decided to remind us all that they can still cook—with flair. The animation? Chef’s kiss. Every frame looks fantastic. The lighting, the colors, the fluidity of movement—it’s all gorgeous. What really won me over, though, was the facial expressions of the main girl. Her expressions? Ridiculously cute. Like, I caught myself grinning just because she was grinning. It’s kinda dangerous I would say. There’s a subtle old-school vibe to the character designs and overall, but it works beautiful. It doesn’t feel outdated,
...
it feels kinda timeless. I think it will be watchable easily even after 15 years.
The romance part? Sweet and slow-burning, though maybe a little too slow-burning. I kept whispering “c'mon just kiss already” by episode 8-9. Still, the tension, the soft moments, the way their relationship grows—it all felt earned. It never bored me. Not once. There were no filler episodes, no dragged-out arcs. It was lean, clean, fast and emotionally mean at some point. The emotional beats hit hard without overdoing the melodrama.
But let’s talk about that finale. Oh, my dear, that final 2 episodes... Somebody hit the f*ckkn 2x speed button and forgot to take their finger off. It rushed like it was late to its own wrap party. Still, it didn’t ruin anything. If anything, it just made me wish for a few more episodes. And should we also talk about the soundtrack? actually it's not memorable, fr I don't remember any of it at all.
Soooo... MAPPA really balanced everything well: the drama, the comedy, the romance, even the action bits. Nothing felt out of place. It’s one of those rare shows where the production team clearly cared and it shows. Is it perfect? Nah. Do I love it anyway? Absolutely YES. Zenshu doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it rolls with so much charm and heart that you don’t even notice. It's warm, well-crafted, and surprisingly addictive.
Final verdict? 8/10. A rewatch in the future? Yes, why not in 3-4 years.
