“Kawaii” - Adjective, meaning “cute” or “adorable”, and is a big element in Anime. So much so that it even has its own genre. Synonymous to “moe”, “kawaii” has, over the years, been a definite attracting part of Anime. And nothing describes Acchi Kocchi more, then “kawaii”…. Except maybe “sugoku kawaii”… or “hounto sugoku kawaii”.
The plot isn’t brain straining at all. It simply revolves on the lives of a group of high-schoolers, and their wacky and mind-numbingly cute excursions. And with that, you can expect a lot of giggles, chuckles, snorts, and even the occasional, loud burst of laughter. And since we’re talking about high-schoolers
...
here, there will definitely be romance. Or in this case, a strange affection between a cat and a boy who can make any woman his with his “BISHOUNEN” power! (By that, I mean his looks. If you’re not familiar with it, then try looking up Katsuragi, Keima from TWGOK, or Usui Takumi from Maid-Sama)
With that said, there definitely won’t be an actual story-line. In fact, each anime episode is divided into two parts (Part A and Part B). Each could either be related to the previous, or a totally different story altogether. It’s kinda like watching different volumes of a gag-manga… except it’s anime. This makes Acchi Kocchi a good choice to those who just want to watch something light and uncomplicated, and to those who just want to pass the time with some anime.
Next is the art.
As you may already know, the art is very cute. Living up to its manga counterpart, it is mainly composed of SD (super-deformed) characters appearing very often in the anime, courtesy of AIC. The OPs and EDs were also very nice, and deliciously executed. (“Deliciously” in the sense that some parts of the OPs and EDs actually look edible.) And with the transitions coupling together nicely with the overall art of the anime, makes Acchi Kocchi a neat watch.
Now, the sound.
Personally, the theme song is kind of like one of those songs that sound outright weird, but still catchy. The theme song and the end song are both fitting for the anime, but they’re not really songs you’d like to be stuck on repeat in your phone.
The Seiyuus were also pretty nice. All the voices fitted pretty nicely, although my favorite one would definitely be Mayoi. She’s like that one friend who’s always doing something that could be considered extremely weird and stupid to other people, but normal exclusively to her. Spouting out random irrelevant gags along the way, she is definitely an important piece in the anime.
And finally, the verdict.
As a whole, Acchi Kocchi was definitely an interesting watch. It managed to keep me interested for the whole of 12 episodes and left me with a somewhat satisfied feeling when it ended. It kept me occupied for about three days, and often leaving me with unfinished homework…. Well, I guess the unfinished homework was more of my fault then the anime’s… (I am not a good role model. :3) Anyway, all in all, it’s a great watch. I’d give it an 8.5 or an 8.7, considering it’s light-heartedness, although that’s probably as high as I can give to an anime without an actual storyline.
I recommend this anime to those who don’t really like the seriousness of life, and just like to go out and bleed their noses with cuteness and hilarity until the sun explodes.

Vegetarian Zombies!.... Really!.. It seems like the zombie genre is getting more and more creative now. They added a bit more life into the supposedly dead this time, and made a really hot zombie... a hot zombie....
As to the introduction, Sankarea basically falls into a lot of strange genres that I really didn't think would work before. But they managed to somehow work things out so that it didn't seem weird. It's pretty much just a Romantic Comedy with Zombies and incest. Wait no, scratch that. It's an anime about Romance with a Zombie and incest. Yeah, that's better.
With that kind of plot
...
line, you'd think that this could be a "great and original" anime. Well, for the "original" part, yes. I can certainly say that this is the first anime I've seen with this strange a plot line. But on the "great" part, I don't think so. Yes I enjoyed the anime, and yes, the story was nice. It was fascinating till the end. But it just seemed to lack the "attractive" element. What I'm saying is, It really didn't grab my attention. I could remember myself losing focus at some parts of the anime too.
The story is about a boy with a zombie fetish, a zombie girl with a really, REALLY overprotective father who dies but gets turned into a zombie, another girl who's in love with her cousin, and the boy's even stranger family. Them and a zombified cat.
The definition of a zombie here is sort of similar to the zombies in Kore wa Zombie desu ka. Meaning they zombies that don't really loose all their sanity and they loose their body limiter. But Sankarea has also added another element that I find really nice. Rigor Mortis. It made me think about what would happen if all the zombie themed media included Rigor Mortis in their movie. It would probably be like "magic hour" for humanity. Although this is an element that is usually ignored, Sankarea managed to make this element fit in with the rest of the story line, and adding more depth and realism.
Now the first few episodes were really dark. It gave the impression of a serious "tragedy romance" plot. They made the atmosphere perfect for the whole thing. It really made me think that this was going to be a really serious drama. But after episode 3, the plot literally made a U-turn and it ended up into a strange romantic comedy. I don't really have any complaints on that part though. I enjoy plot twists... even if they decide to just break the plot altogether.
The plot progression was decent. It left holes, but they were purposely dug holes. Meaning they are there for a reason. They get annoying sometimes, but it's not that bad at least. It also left a hole that could probably either indicate a season two, or just a teaser for the manga since the Manga has more detail and is more advanced.
The art was decent. It's a step up on some of the new anime. Props to Studio Deen. All the characters have their own special personality, and the art really makes it pop out. Although until now, I still can't help but think of Chitanda from Hyouka whenever I see Rea make a cute face.... I don't know why I do that though.
And lastly, the sound. The OPs and EDs were all decent. Although I wish they could have hired a better seiyuu to do the OP. But I guess the voice also somewhat adds to the "lightheartedness" of the anime. The ED was fine too, but sometimes I wish it didn't have to sound TOO sad.
In entirety, this is a good anime. Although I can't give it more than a 7. It's a nice anime, but I couldn't get myself to focus on it. It just didn't capture me that much. But I guess that's just a personal problem. All in all, this is a good anime, but I can't say that it's a "great" anime. But I can still gladly recommend it to anime fans who love "unique romances".

Highschool is an awkward moment in life for everybody. And so it fits perfectly into the "Romantic Comedy" genre. The lives of highschoolers can be put into a plethora of situations to fit the story. This is why most romantic comedy anime are about highschoolers. Sadly, not all romantic comedy anime turn out as hoped. The romantic comedy genre is a great way to touch people, especially when done the right way. But making a good romantic comedy is easier said than done.
Iv'e been disappointed several times before with different romantic comedy anime. Usually it just ends up to a fanservice anime that's trying too
...
hard to make a good ending. I actually gave up on watching romantic comedy for awhile because I knew I wouldn't like it anyway. But I'm glad to have stumbled upon this one. Toradora! gave the impact of a romantic comedy that I was looking for. No strings attached, and no hole left behind. Maybe a couple of bumps though.
Although it's a relatively old anime, I found the story very fresh. The way it progressed was smooth, and it's twists and turns made me wish for more. I can easily say that the story was definately worth the watch alone. I like the way they gave each character his own special story which connected to the main characters. Although some of the other characters besides Ryuji and Taiga didn't stand out much until season 2.
I was also impressed in the story telling and how they closed the anime. Usually, these kinds of anime make one wish for more. But honestly, this is pretty much the first time the ending satisfied me so much that I couldn't think of any other ending that would fit it best.
Also, the one thing I hate is a rushed and unsatisfactory ending. I hate it so much that I could stop watching an anime on the spot if I found hints that the ending would be bad. That's how much I hate poorly made endings. But that's also how much I love endings which are complete and satisfactory. And Toradora has done just that.
The art on the other hand isn't as great. The animations we're ok and the transitions were good. But the character design wasn't all that awesome. Which is why I found the second season a bit awkward. The way the side characters are drawn just basically show that they were meant to be just side characters. It made it a bit strange for them to have actual important roles. But then again, it could also be considered an advantage.
And finally, the sounds. This is probably the part that I didn't like about Toradora. The music was ok, but the way they just lazily recycled them was not. It made quiet episode endings feel awkward because of the peppy ED. They managed to fix some of that in the second season, but it still wasn't that impressive.
All in all, though. Toradora is a great anime. It's one of those anime that is capable of leaving a significant impact on your life. I recommend it to anybody and everybody who wants to feel that touch of happiness
that only anime can give.

I've been waiting for this movie for quite a long time, and I have only watched it recently since I couldn't get my hands on it no matter how hard I tried. And I have to say I am complete satisfied. My several months of want have been completely satiated in a matter of 2 hours. And that was 2 hours very much well spent.
I'm impressed with the way the movie progressed really. I couldn't have thought of a better setting. Set after the four girl's university exams to their farewell ceremony, which was the last episode as well. The gang decides to have a
...
short before-graduation vacation to Europe while they think of something special to leave behind for their dear Azu-nyan.
The plot itself was very intriguing. The common elements of the anime were changed, but the all to common feeling that k-on gives was still there. And since they were in a different atmosphere, and a totally different country altogether, the enticing effect of surprise was also present. It gave off a totally new feeling, but still retained its whole self.
The story telling was all in all, superb. I couldn't see any plot holes that weren't patched through. Although near the ending, it did kind of give off a rushed feeling. But it's not a big deal since it was technically part of the movie. They also managed to really capture London, not just in the art. They managed to put on the "foreigner's" point of view in a very nice and cute manner.
Props to Kyoto Animation for their astounding work in the art department. I really like the texture of the movie. It really made the gang's "moe-ness" and fluffiness pop. The background details and the surrounding details were also exquisite. You can really see the effort they put in to each detail of the movie.
And now what would K-ON be without the music?
The music was also done pretty cleanly. Some of their old songs were featured, but none of the OP's and ED's. They also introduced new songs in the opening and ending as well. I am currently on the hunt of the MP3 of the OP. It's sooooo fluffy.... X3
The seiyuus were also astounding as usual. They also had special English seiyuus as well. My favorite was the taxi driver. But some of the English seiyuus didn't really fit in though. But still, it was still pretty cool to see both languages in different perspectives.
All in all, this has been one of the best anime movies I have ever seen. It's not just because of the cuteness of the gang and the hilariousness of their antics. It's also because it's one of the few anime that has actually touched me. It made me feel a strange but familiar feeling. A feeling I can only get by watching k-on.
So yeah. That's about it. I recommend this movie to everybody, not just the otakus. Although you might want to actually see the entire series to make the experience even better, it's still a great watch on its own.

Hidan no Aria was one of the anime that was in my summer quota a while back. To tell you the truth, I had really good expectations for this anime, since a lot of my friends recommended it. Sadly, those expectations were quickly dashed. One thing I don't like in an anime is bad storytelling. And oh boy, was it bad.....
In the first few episodes, it was pretty solid. All of the settings were established cleanly. The characters were introduced pretty nicely. And the story itself was good. But after awhile, things started to go in a totally different direction. A hunt for a notorious
...
detective killer suddenly turns into a paranormal quest to destroy Dracula? Really? I was really wondering what happened to the director's sense of direction. Maybe it could have worked if they added more episodes to at least lay down a good story foundation, or they could have changed it into a different setting entirely. Some of the main characters in the Manga and Light Novel were even degraded into measly secondary and supporting roles. What was Takashi Watanabe thinking?
And the plot twists were also horrid. But if they had used their twists well, maybe they could have redeemed themselves even by a little bit. Sadly, that was not the case. They had the opposite effect actually. Most of the plot twists were horrible and completely not needed. Well, maybe some of them did work. But the fact still remains. It was bad.
The art was sort of disappointing as well, though I didn't mind it at the time. Although they managed to show the feelings of the scenes they were portraying, it was.... unsatisfying. It could have been better, really.
The sound was pretty good. Yet it wasn't anything special. The OP and ED were catchy, and I found myself listening to them time and time again. I even learned how to play Kameria no Hitomi during the summer. Honestly, the OPs and EDs seemed a bit better than the story.
The seiyuus were also pretty sync with the characters. Especially Rie. I have always been a fan of her voice acting, along with other Tsundere voice actresses. She really gave life to Aria and her "tsun-ness" (forgive the term).
I don't really think I can recommend this anime to any certain group of people. I did enjoy a bit of it. I was disappointed in the end though. But it did receive a good amount of recognition, considering it made the cover of some Anime Magazines. If your one of those people who like action-harem anime without a solid story line, I guess you could check out this anime then.

"A slice of life!" would completely explain this anime in a short and simple notation. It's basically about the antics of the employees of a certain family restaurant with having no particular plot whatsoever. It really gives that feel of life as a working student. Of course, watching people work for the next 30 minutes wouldn't be so exciting.... So how about this? We add an androphobic girl that can turn your face inside-out, a teenager who is obsessed with small things, a manager that doesn't do zilch, a shady person who knows everybody's secrets, a dumbfounded, lethal waitress that adores the manager, and a
...
poor cook who's stuck in the friend zone, and a bunch of other weird characters, and mix them all in strange situations as they do their work at the same time. Sound good?
I honestly can't explain Working!! without mentioning the characters that make up the backbone of the entire anime. There isn't really much of a plot in Working!! So as a slice of life anime, it's a little strange. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it. Although I did encounter some problems along the way.
As I said before, There isn't really a plot in this. It's just about well... people working. Sometimes the plot form the episodes connect, sometimes they don't. It's a pretty light anime, so don't expect any deep plot-lines. There are "action" scenes though... But their a little one-sided *chuckle*
The art was pretty decent as well. The character's were draw pretty well, though it's not really anything special.
The OPs and EDs were pretty good, but once again, not that great.
And last but not least, characters.
Working!! wouldn't be anything special if it wasn't for the characters. This is probably the only thing that separates it from other "working" anime. They are all most certainly unique and you will never have any trouble differentiating them either. The character development its done cleanly so there won't be that many confusing parts.
There is something that bothers me though. I don't know why, but I have this sort of loathing feeling for Takanashi. I really don't know why. He just gives me this strange, heavy sensation. Oh well, it's probably nothing.
All in all, this is a pretty fun anime. You will definitely not get enough of the crew's antics. I recommend this for those who want something light and smooth to watch.

I'm not really a fan of the horror genre, so I was pretty much putting Another on hold the entire time. I wasn't really giving it any particular expectations, but in the end, I was stumped. I found myself hooked on to the thing to the point that I had to resort to sleeping in class the next morning. And it was definitely worth it.
Another is definitely one of those series that will pull you straight to the next one without hesitation. With a dash of gore and a pinch of tragedy and romance, it will certainly appeal to those who can keep their stomachs
...
in while watching somebody get impaled by a household objects.
Story!
Now, this is one of the strong points of Another, but it's also one of its weaknesses, but don't worry, its not THAT bad. Iv'e said this already, but it is definitely one of the anime that will literally pull you into huge anticipation. The plot arrangement is done pretty well. They delivered the full story with very little leaks. A really nice arrangement for it's "mystery" element.
And all their twists and turns definitely add up its points. You will surely find yourself in a confusing yet addicting pool of mystery. Its plot twists are where its "mystery" side definitely pops out.
As for its weakness, well, I would have to say the partial character development. It's not that big of a deal though. I'm just pointing it out. There will definitely be times where you would ask yourself: "Is he relevant to the story?".. And most of the time, he is. It's a little frustrating sometimes when they kill a character your just starting to like. But I guess that can also add to the "horror and friendship" thing they're going for.
Now as for the art, P.A. did a pretty good job. They cleanly depicted all the themes they were going for. Sometimes even a little too well. They also did a pretty good job with the gore scenes. The art will really put you in a freaky ride with your emotions.
And finally, sound. Normally, after listening to the OP and ED of the series about two times, I tend to just ignore it and skip to the story. But in this case, I was enticed to listen to the entire thing over and over again. Now don't get me wrong, I don't really want the song stuck in replay on my Ipod, it's just.... how do I say it?.... Seductive. The OP and ED songs were in great sync with the art. The song isn't that good. It's just.. well.. seductive.
The sound effects were also another strong point. It really delivers the feeling of horror through it. The sound effects will make you run around in circles waiting for something to happen. And sometimes, nothing will really happen. The sound effects sound like they were ripped off from a stereotypical horror movie, but its arrangement definitely makes great use of it.
Put all of these elements together and you've got a pretty addictive anime for pretty much everyone who can handle blood and gore. The entire mix of elements delivered a very impressive anime that is definitely one of a kind. It has its flaws, but it is still very much enjoyable. I so recommend it to those who want a wholesome anime to watch, or to those who just like a test of strength.

"Electric Wave woman and Youthful Man"!.... You could probably imagine my thoughts on Denpa Onna when I first looked it up. I couldn't really find any substantial reviews or comments about it back then, so I didn't really know what to think about it at first. In the end, I decided to just try it out. And boy, was I surprised.
I didn't really think much about Denpa Onna at first, nor did I have any anxiety towards it. But honestly, I was so wrong when I though it was nothing special. It just proves that you cant judge a book by its cover. Or in
...
this case, its title.
Now, first of all, "Electric Wave Woman" wouldn't really be my first choice on a title. But as I got deeper into the anime, the name just stuck I guess. I honestly don't know where to begin talking about the plot on this one. I can't really explain how the main characters move in this anime. So I'm just going to jump right in.
Let me just give you a little pick-me-up... It's about ALIENS!... ( lol, that so did not do justice to the anime )
The plot first and foremost, is pretty solid. I didn't see any rushing or signs of chocking on time, so it was okay on that point. Although I can't really say much about the plot. I have to say it is very interesting and original, but for me, I guess it just didn't stand out as much.
The character development was pretty shakey though. Although it wasn't that rushed, the characters seemed a little bit hollow. But that isn't really a big deal. You can even say it adds more elements to the plot. But still, it does get a bit awkward at times.
It's actually more of a discovery anime rather than a drama or a comedy. It brings a sense of curiosity to the stage, and distributes it equally and evenly. But don't fret. There will definitely be chuckles and giggles in Denpa Onna. Enough to satisfy the comedically-hungry mind.
The art is pretty good as well. They wen't pretty straightforward with the "moe and cute" theme. The background is pretty descent as well. I can't really say much about the art though. It doesn't stand out that much.
As for the sound, I honestly don't like the OP that much. The ED was fine and cute, and the insert-songs and sound effects are pretty solid. It's just the OP that's bugging me. Although it is pretty catchy once you get used to it. I personally don't want to keep hearing that song in my head. A little too much static.
I guess what really captivated and got me hooked on to Denpa Onna was the atmosphere it sets. It definitely has that whole "space mystery" thing going, and I for one think it's pretty cool. Denpa Onna is pretty much good for all kinds of Anime fans. I suggest you watch it if you want a funny anime that also makes you think: "I wonder what else is out there".

Ahh.. I should have written this earlier. Oh well. This is honestly one of my favorite anime production movies. I've seen it before, and that was a pretty long time ago. And when I saw it recently, I was amazed. It still wowed me as much as it did when I was still in my elementary years. This is truly an anime that stood the test of time.
Now, enough with the nostalgia. Let's get down to business.
Spirited Away. The title pretty much says it all. That's pretty much the entire plot line and story that's in the movie. Not to mention the feeling the
...
movie gives as one watches it. It literally gives you the feeling that you've been swept up, and thrown in another world. And as the title goes, the story is about a girl, who gets lost through a tunnel, and lands in a magical world. A world filled with many of Japan's great deities and demons. A land roaming with Spirits or the "Yokai" of Japan.
The story line is great. The arrangement of the plots were definitely intriguing and astounding. The have done well in their planning and plotting. Sadly, the highest I could possibly give, would be a 7.
Now, I don't have any problem with the plot line. In fact, it was superb. It's just that the ending felt very rushed. Perhaps it would have been even better if they had at least 20 or 10 minutes more near the ending. They could have definitely improved on that matter even with just a few minutes to let the flavor and the atmosphere kick in. That is the one thing I don't like in an anime. Poor story development at any part, and poor character development. Spirited Away also suffers with this problem. Some of the characters tend to just get thrown in scenes for no particular reason. And only around near the end do you find out that he was apparently relevant and important to the story. That part disappoints me.
Don't worry though. It's not all bad. In fact, it'a about to get a whole lot better.
What definitely got my attention the entire time was the amazing art. Hayao Miyazaki definitely hit with this one. The impressively animated scenery and the feeling that comes with it is really something you don't find that often in anime anymore. This is where I think, along with it's story line, Spirited Away got through its fans.
The sound is also impressive too. With the background music and the sound effects fitting almost perfectly with the scenes, it just adds more to the ambiance that comes with it. The voicing in both the English and the Japanese versions were also impressive.
All in all. This is a definitely "must watch" masterpiece. You don't get to find anime like this anymore, so I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something to watch and experience at the same time. I really think this anime will stand the test of time.

Butt-love and Sequels! It's been repeatedly stated in cliche manners that sequels will never be as good as the original. In anime, that case has been proven wrong in many cases. But I'm sad to say though, that Kore wa zombie desu ka? Of the Dead! is not one of of those cases.
Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? Of the Dead! starts off on where we exactly left. They even have an OVA where they're still at the pool, the place where the first season ended. It was pretty good at first. They even decided to introduce new characters, but after the first 4 or 5
...
episodes, the whole thing started to go down.
Let's talk plot shall we? One of the things I really don't like is a half-baked plot with poor story and character development. Maybe they were out of budget or something, but honestly, the plot-line and the development was sadly quite poor. This was previously one of the anime that I really liked. Mainly because of their mix of a romantic-esque plot-line, and their hilarious brand of comedy. But in Zombie of the dead!, the totally lucked out. Unlike the first one, this one's ending seemed a little too off, and very rushed that it made me reach the point where I wanted to actually stop in the middle of it, since you can literally see what happens next. It happened in the last few episodes though, so it still has points.
It still retains its good points though. They recycled some parts in the first season a few times, but it wasn't such a big deal. Its comedic properties are still there and still strong though, so no need to worry about that. And the harem is still there. It had even grown into a slightly bigger, and rationally weirder one! So we're good on those points.
As far as the art goes, I don't really have any complaints. It's pretty much the same as before, with no particular changes. The did add more "hallucination elcuwood" screen time though. And the improved OP was pretty cool. The ED seem recycled though.
The soundtrack is nothing special either. Sure, they have new and improved OPs and EDs. They also decided to use some of the old songs in the first season as background material, which was pretty cool. The also have new insert songs for some parts. But it didn't really improve, so it's not really a big deal.
I guess my main complaint was that the anime didn't really improve. It might have even gotten worse, perhaps. Sequels are supposed to be chances for more improvement. But I guess it was pretty hard for them to do that. Well, maybe Studio Deen decided to give up on the series. It's a shame too. Kore wa Zombie Desu Ka? could have been a lot better. It would be pretty good if they'd continue the series though. It has a lot of potential. I'd welcome it with open arms. But they'd better improve parts though, otherwise they would just be wasting the time and money of their viewers.
But I'm not discouraging you or anything. I guess if you wanted more of our hero, Aikawa's antics from the first season, then dive right into its sequel. Just don't raise your expectations too high.
