More of the first season, but without the international politics plot point. Just as with the first season, the military propaganda is off the charts. Not once does the JSDF do anything wrong, and critics of the military are once again portrayed as stupid/evil, or both. My least favorite part of this season, however, was the completely unnecessary inclusion of a TWELVE YEAR OLD LOVE INTEREST for one of the Japanese diplomats. Why? Seriously, why? I thought it was going to be played off as a one time joke, but no. The diplomat agrees to marry the 12 year old girl once she's SIXTEEN. Not ... even 18. There is no reason for this plot point to have existed, and even with its existence in no world should the diplomat have ever agreed to marrying her. Along with that pointless relationship, the show forces 3 other couples into existence out of nowhere at the last second as some lazy attempt at making a satisfying ending for the whole series, even though by the time all 24 episodes are up, nothing about the world has really changed except the empire is now split in half. The JSDF doesn't leave, there's not really peace, and the series is just left at a forced conclusion without anything really happening.

Despite all that negativity, I still found it somewhat enjoyable. The combat is still enjoyable to watch, but that's about all I can say. I would describe my experience watching this anime as mild boredom occasionally interrupted by a cool action scene. It's okay for a military show if you can look past the propaganda.

Well, this is an interesting one. I enjoyed it as someone whose favorite trope in media is modern technology interacting with other worlds who all have no experience with modern technology. While it was entertaining and kept me interested, it has one giant flaw. It's literally just military propaganda.

I don't know that there's a single moment in this anime where the JSDF is portrayed negatively. Meanwhile, every other country is portrayed as greedy and dying to steal rights to the other world and its resources from Japan, because apparently Japan is an omnipotent benevolent power that should be allowed to do whatever they want. There's ... constant propaganda throughout this anime about how everyone is too critical of the JSDF, they don't get enough money, and "akshually the Japanese military is super awesome and rad and could totally kick your country's ass".

The show has cool action scenes and somewhat interesting ideas when it comes to the potential political conflicts an event like this happening might bring, but its hard to look past how down bad this show really is for the Japanese armed forces. It's as bad as American military movies. If you want a military focused anime with a fantasy setting, give this a watch - but don't expect the story to be anything more than "Japan kicks third world country's ass".
