A Magnificent Journey!!!
I find it ironic Kaori never wanted those who heard her music to ever forget, but then later asked Arima to forget, and like Arima Kousei i don't think I ever will be able to forget either.
Overall Score - 9 / 10
Story - 9/10
The story of Your Lie in April is one to be stifled with, the general idea of the story was strong however the pacing of the events was rather slothful compared the quality of the story-line, it's not particularly good at grabbing people in with an intense first few episodes however I think they
...
were really better off not trying to do that. along with the fact that the climax was admittedly more and more predictable as you approached it.
However despite this, the number of things that they got right was magnificent! the author clearly knew a lot about their subject matter and it shows. The overall idea and layout of the story was nothing short of genius in my opinion, and I think the execution of this idea was quite excellent as well. The story was riddled with a constant sway of motivation between the main characters not like a tug of war but more like newton balls, the motivation was thrust upon the other weather they wanted it or not and in return the energy is then distributed back to the original person.
I certainly don't think this is the best story ever created, however you can't deny it was clever.
Art - 10/10
A new high, I find art relative to the beholder and what is good for one may not be good for another, however what you can judge them on is effort, and it is clear that A-1 Studios took their sweet time working on the art for this show, as they should have. the show looked clean and particularly well done, and I feel, unlike many other shows, you could take any single frame and get a reasonably good picture out of it. Which truly shows the work that they put in.
Sound - 9/10
I appreciate the soundtrack they put into this work especially considering its significance to the story. As you would expect the works played by the characters in the show aren't by the creators and are simply just popular classical songs, with good taste I might add. The opening's and closings for the shows were very good I much liked them and I think the audience may too, however for the soundtrack of songs dispersed throughout the show i noticed they were all very simple songs with and fermatas (essentially a music symbol telling the player to play the way they want to) which i found truly charming considering the significance of that to the story.
My only disappointment was that the there were versions songs that were one or two songs that were nearly identical in structure, I suppose the composer either liked the tune or was to lazy to come up with more pieces.
Characters - 8/10
I found the characters very good and with no truly hollow characters. For many characters (excluding Watari as he is very cliche) I would say that they were surprisingly unique and not very cliche at all. They only put in characters that had value and the value they showed was sold and not cookie cutter.
However I did have a few issues with some characters and their use for example Tsubaki's friend Keiko was given quite a lot of screen time considering how little she mattered in the grand scheme of things. Also for Watari and Tsubaki we get scenes of turmoil and backstory that were useful for creating a character but had no value in the story, for example Watari's soccer career and deep emotional struggle with school and play was elaborated on for a bit but never really had a big impact on the story.
Overall I loved this show and i'm glad I got to watch it, it takes some dedication to get into, seeing as how it doesn't pick up pace very quickly, and it's incredible ambiguous, however it was well worth the time and I'd hope you can enjoy it too.
