Well, NHK ni Youkoso. What an anime! If you like Slice-of-Life with Comedy, Drama and Psychological elements, you will love it to death. A "dark" story and reality that exists in our early days sadly, but it really demonstrates well the possible difficulties of anyone and how a life situation can become so dramatic and problematic. In this case, the protagonist, Satou-kun, is facing a lot of that problems. Anxiety, Isolation, Not Working, Not Studying. What a situation for anyone right? But this show is not for everyone and I recommend you to watch it as an adult with some little life experience at least
...
to really understand some references and to have the best experience possible.
NO SPOILERS! SO BE COMFORTABLE!
Story (9/10)
NEET. A person that doesn't study, work, or train. The story of the anime goes around the topic that the protagonist suffers. It starts kinda troll and slow, but the anime introduces you to a lot of things, like how he went to a situation like this, about the characters he knows and meets, their stories and mainly how his life can be so dependent. Japanese culture is well-presented and fits really well the type of this anime.
The show was really well executed also.
Art (7/10)
The art is interesting and for the age of the anime (2006) I have to praise that, but nowadays I don't feel so fascinated or appreciated for the art. In my opinion, not the main focus, but it's good of course. The animation is decently well done and I don't see any problem with it. One thing to say is that it fits the anime itself, despite that I prefer the art of Misaki in the Manga, which I was curious to see after I finished the anime, but the other characters seem very alike to the manga.
OST (9/10)
The music is outstanding, it fits so well the environment of the anime so that you can kind of feel the protagonist's situation and feel like you are together with him in his problems.
The opening is really "catchy" and memorable, you can feel a bit of nostalgia after you finish the anime and that's a really good sign when you watch an anime because it means it was a remarkable experience.
The first Ending has a cool start, but the vocals and the sounds turn so weird. The second Ending is different and more "emotional" I prefer it.
Characters (10/10)
Oh boys, this is clearly the most well-done thing by the writer. These characters are so special, really good development and stories of them and each one with their different personalities and problems. And that is a good thing, because it shows that the main character is not the only "garbage" in the show. Everyone has his problems and that is a thing in the real world also.
You can learn a lot from them and see how they grow differently. I was really surprised especially by Misaki development, even though I can associate more with Satou
Comedy (10/10)
I laughed a lot with this show, it has really good adult humor in good timing, and those funny stupid faces and otaku culture things bring a lot to the comedy also.
Enjoyment (8/10)
In terms of enjoyment, the anime has its downs and ups. In the first half, I wasn't so hooked on it, I saw a really good expectation at first and some episodes passed quickly. But nothing like the second half, where I was really "addicted" from about ep 15. Didn't want to stop, especially in the final. Between episodes 12-14 I was watching at a bad pace, wasn't so hyped at all, mostly because of that "mini arc".
Ending (10/10)
I don't want to spoil anything, but the ending was really genius and heartwarming in some way. I was really goosebumped with the final messages and motivations that the anime taught.
Overall (9/10)
So in my opinion, this show is very unique and special for me and with a really good bag mixed with drama, comedy and topics that reflect society and mind problems.
This is my first review. I hope you like it. Stay strong G's
