I'm not exaggerating when I say this is possibly one of the worst anime that I've ever seen, in the sense that I'd give it a zero if I could. Every time I heard the ending song (in 2x mode, I might add) and could close out of my browser, the feeling was exhilarating. I did my math homework in the background of this show, and when I finished that, I'd do the math homework for the next night. Between references here and there, predictable recycled jokes, and the creators obviously struggling to make the characters "relatable," this show was just plain bad.
Plot - 1
A
...
girl who is seemingly perfect around her friends, but a lazy, nagging, spoiled, good-for-nothing otaku when she's home with her brother. Seems like it'll be a fun, light-hearted slice-of-life, right? Maybe in the first 3 episodes, I'll give it that, but then it's just downright annoying. There's no plot development, Umaru doesn't change her obnoxious ways, the brother never does anything but give in, etc. etc. After episode 2, I didn't really manage to break even a smile, the comedy wasn't anything special, always relying on the main character to execute it in a predictable manner.
Art - 2
Annoyingly average art style, no really distinct features. I guess the colors are nice.
Sound - 4
Ok, I think this is something you can at least kind-of agree to, regardless of your opinion on this anime. The sound was bad, not that bad, but you know what I mean. The OP was catchy, but nothing else was that striking. The ED was pretty bad. I'll give the sound a point because the seiyuus were fitting and the one that voiced Umaru was annoying enough to fit the bill, good job.
Characters - 1
Don't even get me started on the characters, I'm not lying when I say that I wasn't sure whether the creators of this show were supposed to make me want to hate them or not. But they were each just as bland in their own ways.
Enjoyment - 1
I can't count the number of times that I put the speed of this anime in 2x mode, or sometimes even 4x mode. So no, I did not enjoy this anime.
Overall - 1
I wondered why I'd even bothered to keep going with this show. My friends sometimes call me a masochist, they might be right. Or maybe I'm just a completionist, who knows.

-I'm new to writing reviews so, apologies in advance-
I'm probably super late, as a great majority of reviews are from 2011 and this one will just get buried beneath the other more popular reviews, but nevertheless, I'm here. So I'll stop wasting time and do what I came here for.
STORY - 6
I'd say this is the part of the anime that wasn't my favorite, the story really had no explanation, and what really pushes my buttons is the last episode. The actual drama basically ended at episode 12 and episode 13 was, what do they call it, a filler? Yea, one of those, which would
...
have been perfectly fine in the middle of the series where it belongs, but at the end? There must have been some kind of mistake. But anyways, the story was really simple, I'd summarize it: cute crossdressing butler ecchi with many clichés and "fillers," but still kept me hooked. Similar to your average romcom anime, pretty much.
ART - 9
I absolutely loved the art style, I think it was the eyes that got me. I also fell in love with the character design, everyone just looked so attractive regardless of gender.
SOUND - 10
The seiyuus were perfect for the roles, the OP and ED are fantastic as well and fit the anime.
CHARACTER - 9
Very simple archetypes, but I fell in love with Subaru, so we get a point here.
ENJOYMENT - 9
Not much to say here, it was super entertaining and funny, had some ecchi but wasn't over the top or unneeded, had drama, romance, the clichés that we love, pretty much my ideal harem/ecchi (I haven't watched much that I enjoyed but I'm sure this is what I was looking for).
OVERALL - 8
I'd say, for this type of anime, this one was great. Well done, Studio feel.

-This is my first review so please bear with me-
Ah yes, Yami Shibai, I heard a bit about it before watching but finally decided to try it out because I thought "Hey, I could finish this in less than an hour, might as well give it a go." I have to say, this anime really surprised me, it exceeded my expectations and managed to hold my attention, I mean, it could get repetitive at times but the episodes are only, what, four minutes long? So I sat through it all and somehow ended up writing this review.
STORY - 8
It's a very simple concept, ghost stories,
...
that's it, that's what the anime revolves around. I thought this sounded interesting and ended up giving it a try. It's basically your average "telling spooky stories around the campfire" scenario, except instead of that we have a mysterious man in a yellow mask telling said spooky stories to children. So, simple idea, but still cool.
ART - 8
I'm personally not the biggest fan of this art style but for some reason it was very interesting, unlike any anime art style I've ever seen before. It was a more realistic take on anime art, and I especially liked the dark and gloomy color choices. The art, I'd say, is a really important part of this anime, because it gave a very creepy feel to the atmosphere. I personally wouldn't draw like this in my own art, but I think it's fair to say that the art fits this anime.
SOUND - 9
Now this is one part of Yami Shibai that makes me really like the series as a whole. I LOVED the ending song, and the ominous background music was another big part of the anime. Not much to say about the voices, as I didn't really pay attention to them, but I guess they fit the characters.
CHARACTER - 6
There are no characters who stay through the episodes except for the yellow-masked man and the children, who we still don't know much about, but that adds to Yami Shibai. There's not really much to say here.
ENJOYMENT - 6
It might be rated G so it wasn't really that scary, as most horror anime are not, but it was still a little creepy. As for enjoyment, it was mediocre, not spectacular but not appalling. I found myself sometimes waiting for the episode to end, and it wasn't too thrilling for me.
OVERALL - 7
I got a lot more than I expected from this anime, I'd say it was pretty well done for such a simple concept. Though, sometimes simple is the best way to go. Overall, I was really surprised with the outcome.
