As someone who is a fan of "Hatsukoi Zombie" and is quite fond of "Himegoto: Juukyuusai no Seifuku", I was going into "Boy's Abyss" with a positive attitude and hoping for an interesting read as the author had already displayed with their previous work. But, something felt off as soon as Nagi and Esemori's beginning character personality and development was introduced.
Despite being a major part of the manga, the dark themes such as self harm, rape, and adultery serves very little purpose in character development or plot progression. They were usually there for a sort of deep emotional emphasis, which was not successful at all.
...
The only effect it had on readers, in my opinion, with such a large amount of atrocities happening one after another is that it numbs the readers and makes decencitize to these horrible, borderline criminal (well some are criminal), actions, which just dilites the dark themes and turns the manga into a torture chamber for the readers.
The premise of story was actually quite interesting. The mystery of an idol and her obession with double suicide with the main character was a good hook, and a strong theme around "people borning into a town never leaves the town", and the mental anguish of the main character's struggle between prioritizing his future by going to uni in Tokyo or taking care of his struggling family at a young age was very interesting. However, the paths and methods that the author took to tackle this premise and these themes was unbearable. The way that the characters' motives and reasoning behind their actions were presented was convoluted and always ill intented. This ill intent could be conveying the evil nature of people or just people from this cursed town, but this barrage of evil, atrosicities, and other distusting shit are really not enjoyable to read. To add on to these weird and uncomfortable character traits followed by convoluted plot points, the characters are just unlikable.
The characters are irredeemible. All of them just slowly decend into despair. At the beginning at least the author gave us a little hope for some of the main characters to turn around and change things. But by the end, they all keeps getting weirder and hopeless, which honestly feels like their in despair for the sake of the mood of the story because these characters just make no sense. The solutions of each character arcs were very dependent how likable and much we cared about these characters, which was nonexistent for me, so the conclusion was extremely unsatifying and empty.
Personal opinions. I mostly either hated or just did not care about the manga, so I really did not enjoy reading this. Buy by chapter 100 I was locked in to finish it because I know I will definitly drop this if I stopped at any point, and some moment were like watching riduculous car crash, so it's not completely unreadable. I also liked the character of chako and sensei at the beginning because of the struggle of helping themselves or important ones around them while juggling around family problems and potential societal backlash (well the sensei is breaking the law, but as a fictional plot device...). But then they just went crazy... thanks.
To conclude
While having an interesting premise and theming around the human relationships of a certain countryside town with decent art and well designed characters that started at a 7/10 (good) for me, the story and characters really dragged down the score to around a 4/10 (bad), but since this manga was a little infuriating to read (hate reading),which avoided complete boredom soit got boosted to a 5/10 (still bad tho).

Oh man is this anime horny, but i just cant stop loving every minute of it.
Story: 7
Who is watching this anime for the story, no one (at least im not). But the story was surprisingly kinda good for the most part.
The first episode introducing how imouto san met ghost chan was pretty good, it made me really invested in how Mitsuki is gonna win over his brother. For most of these kinds of anime, the show stays the same and squeezes every last bit of juice out of the genre, incest in this case, but ImoCho has some super cute and wholesome moments
...
to calm down my horny during most part of the show (oniichan being the loving and caring oniichan he is, Miyori and Mitsuki cuddling...)
Alright, enough of saying bullshit to justify the plot. The reason why the story is a 7 and not a 3 is because of the horny. The horny is not the typical kind of horny that is super annoying and always rubs itself on your face, the horny is cultured horny. The show actually gives you what you want instead of It tickles every bit of my fetish and it makes me more than just horny, it shaped who me who i am today. Without the push from the horny from this show, i will have never realize that i was into imouto shows, exhibitionism, pissing, body swapping, and much more (the show does not have gender bender which is unfortunate but does not make it worse).
But seriously, the story is really good because it is actually funny and wholesome.
Art: 8, Character:8
i rewatched the whole show to get back my nostalgic boner and the art is actually still pretty decent today. Though a few character looks a bit jank, ex. the childhood friend Yukina (maybe i just dont like her hair color), the main characters are all really memorable and distinct (compared to every other trash anime protagonist that looks exactly like Kirito (yes this anime is trash and i love it)). Mitsuki is just so cute, her design is flawless (her 'freaky pantsu' looks pretty good as well). Hoyori's cloths are just so iconic and her carefree personality is so cute. The two of them combined (when Hiyori takes over Mitsuki) is just so cute, the way that Mitsuki's body just changes personality is just perfect, i just love that, from tsundere to "carefree-dere" (dunno what it's actually called:/ ) is just so good (really trying hard not to say it turns me on because it doesn't, well it kinda does but its not the same. it like gives me love boners or sth, idk). Though oniichan looks pretty generic, his character makes him great. Oniichan-kun is such a gentleman that his actions make me blush and fall for him (no homo, fall in love with him as a fellow bro). He is always there for Mitsuki and really cares for her even though they only met for a short amount of time (fyi: they're step siblings and just moved in together). The way he treats his imouto makes it really hard for the audience (or just me) to decide whether we should go the incest route or not because seeing them as lovers and as close siblings both feels amazing. The other characters are not that important, but them not being annoying is pretty important.
Horny is also a form of art, so from the ecchi point of view, art is 10/10. The ecchi scenes are so hot and erotic that it can almost compare itself to the best of the hentais (it is biased because the ecchi scenes just so happens to have most of the hentai tags i like). -2 (both art and character) for not being too special and outstanding, and because it just suits my taste so only -2.
Sound: 10
The voice actress of Mitsuki and Hiyori smashed it. I dont care if the show had generic ost (i dont actually know if they have ost) or just no unique sound designs and effects, Mitsuki sounds cute as fuck, Hiyori sounds cute as fuck, they sound cute as fuck when they fu... Yea, 10/10
Enjoyment: 10
Do i really have to say anything after all the shit reasonings for justifying the garbage being a masterpiece. It's overall 10/10 just because its enjoyable, its my guilty pleasure, its just so fun, i smile everytime i think of this anime, it kinda cures my depression a little, and it satisfies my horny.
"Saikin, Imouto no Yousu ga Chotto Okashiinda ga." is like my shit. People vomit and feel disgusted when they see my shit, but i, on the other hand, love my shit? (wait, that sounds weird, but you know what i mean right?)

HUGE SPOILERS ALERT!
Dont read my review if you dont want most of the anime spoiled for you, go watch it first.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Things i dont like/improvement needed:
This show could've been one of my favorite animes, but trigger just had to put in the aliens and space battles. I'm not saying this anime is terrible though, it's decent. It's kind of inconsistent with the episodes. Some episodes are awesome (like ep 13)and could have been alone an amazing anime series, but instead it's squeezed into a 24min episode. Some episodes are pure fan services (don't get me wrong, i love me some fan services, but i don't think
...
it works on this anime with such a serious plot)and i think are totally unecessary. The characters are a little boring and "generic", u got the nice guy protagonist, the guy that always goes against the protagonist, kind to everybody girl... U see what i mean?
Things i like:
My favorite parts of this anime are the art style, flashbacks, and Zero Two. The characters are cute and lovable(visually), and the music is super good, especially the first ED. The action scenes were pretty good too. The flashbacks are truly beautiful. When ep 13 came out, seeing Hiro and Zero Two's past made me fell in love with this series, i was overwhelmed with Zero Two's cuteness. The narration in that episode was beautiful, i dont know how to explain this, but if u watched that it u'll get what i mean. The moment when Hiro breaks the window and rescues Zero Two just puts me in awe, it's just so powerful and beautiful. This episode makes me remind of Promised Neverland, which is an amazing show which sets in a dystopian world and the children tries their hardest to escape it. Also, Zero Two... do i have to say anything about her, she's cute and badass, but importantly she protects and cares for the ones she love. But she's sometimes scary, and i like it... kind of.
Conclusion:
This anime could have been better if it had been more serious or just make the flashbacks into separate animes, and this can be the 2nd season if u want more. Even still, I love this anime and I love Zero Two so
