Personally I really enjoyed this manga. As someone who doesn’t like the Harry Potter franchise that much I was really intrigued by the idea of a story where a character tears the magic world to shreds with no magic whatsoever by pure strength alone, the incredible moral part of the story was a very pleasant surprise and ended up being the reason for me to continue reading.

It’s definitely a mix between action and comedy and balances between the two. However, sometimes during the really epic battles the trow away jokes ruined the mood completely and that caused some annoyances at times. I would say ... that it’s a recommendation if you are a ‘I like action in my humor’ kind of person but not if you are a ‘I like humor in my action’ kind of person.

Overall it’s just a fun read with a nice story attached to it.

First things first: this really isn’t a bad manga. However I was immensely disappointed with the story. There basically is no plot whatsoever except for the fact that the main character is a shoujo manga creator.

When I read the premise I was expecting a cute romance comedy. However, there is no romance. You heard that right. This manga about a girl in love with a shoujo mangaka has no romance plot. It’s just purely a gag manga about creating shoujo. Most of the jokes are about this too.

It was my fault for not reading any of the reviews though because multiple people have ... warnings in their reviews about this.

So if you like gag manga and would like to read one about a shoujo mangaka I would definitely recommend Gekkan Shoujo Nowaki-kun. It’s a fun read that made me audibly laugh a few times. If you however like romance I would skip this one, because you’re surely not going to find it here.

Deathnote really is something else. I got the first volume gifted from my mom after a recommendation from my nephew and was immediately hooked. I bought the other volumes as soon as possible.

The moral dilemmas in this series are just phenomenal. The action really makes you want to continue reading, however to me the story really took a nosedive when L died. The whole storyline with the company was really unnecessary and slow paced in my opinion. In the end they managed to save to story with the coolest monologue in the last volume. So the very trilling first couple of volumes in combination ... with the awesome ending result in my rating of 7.8/10 however you can only give whole ratings hence the 8.

If you like a lot of monologue and thrilling action I would definitely recommend reading this manga. However if reading a lot of tekst puts you off I would skip this one.

Uzumaki was the first manga I ever read and I’m so glad that it was. For some reason I was interested in the premise of spirals haunting a city so I decided to read the first chapter online to see if it was worth buying the book. I ended up reading almost the whole manga that very day (oops). (To be fair though, I bought it after I finished it online because it was just so good).

Junji Ito manages to come up with the weirdest stories and just rolls with it which makes for a compelling read. His art is just phenomenal, every page that ... you turn is just a work or art. I didn’t know what to expect but at the first full page drawing I was completely hooked. He manages to draw in a way that makes you want to throw up (but in a very good way).

To be honest the hurricane chapters were a bit long for me but apart from that I really enjoyed this manga. If you like body horror i would certainly recommend.

I’m a very big Junji Ito fan so this review is definitely going to be a bit biased. Having said that I absolutely LOVED Gyo. It’s just so incredibly insane and weird that I ended up finishing the manga in one sitting. Just when you think: ‘this isn’t going to get weirder’. Junji Ito manages to do just that. Every page turn was a f-ing jump scare, the art is just phenomenal. If you decide to pick it up you’re sure in for a wilde ride until the very end.

Personally I really like the weird storyline and the weirder it got the more I wanted ... to continue reading. However if you don’t like an absolutely silly premise I wouldn’t recommend reading it. If you prefer your horror to have a lot of depth you won’t find it here.

To be very honest it did take me a while to really get into the story. In the first few volumes the intimacy seemed 100% one sided (to me at least) which gave me a weird feeling. It wasn’t non consensual but for me it really walked a bit too close to that line. Due to this I actually ended up dropping it for a bit.

However the later volumes are so f-ing cute that it totally makes up for the weird start. You really see the main characters go through personal growth which makes for a story that you just cannot put down. There ... is no toxicity and no unnecessary drama added, it’s just a story that could happen in day to day life. The adorable art style also really ads to the warm fuzzy feeling that the mangaka wants to convey in the later volumes.

I would recommend this manga to anyone that would like to read Yuri, however be warned for the first few volumes if you have trouble with intimacy that isn’t a enthusiastic yes for both parties.

Personally I really didn’t know what to expect when I started tokyo ghoul, that’s probably why I was kinda let down by the first 6 volumes. In the first few volumes the action scenes are so rough that I just couldn’t make out what was happening. This did get better as the volumes progressed.

For me the story didn’t even feel interesting until volume 4. The whole storyline with the ghoul restaurant was so exciting to the point where I just HAD to read the next chapter and the next after that. However that storyline had such a weak ending that I was debating whether ... or not I should even continue reading. After reading many great reviews online I decided to give it another go and I’m so glad that I did.

Volume 7 & 8 were AMAZING, I couldn’t stop reading. Finally did an exciting plotline have a incredible ending. The fight between ‘jason’ (yamori) and kaneki was insane. Finally I understood why the first few volumes were so slow paced, they were leading up to this. Volume 7-14 are just so good. Overall I ended up really enjoyed this manga.

I would recommend it if you don’t mind a long build up in your stories. However even if you don’t feel like it would be worth reading through 6 volumes only to get to the good bit you’re mistaken. In my opinion the build up is crucial to the enjoyment of the later volumes and it’s so worth the wait.

As someone who LOVED Uzumaki i was left feeling kind of dissapointed when I finished Tomie. Tomie barely has a coherent plot, it felt like a bunch of short stories that don’t have one single conclusion. Because of this the story line feels hollow. After a while the same premise over and over again also just becomes kind of stale.

Having said that I still absolutely adore the artstyle of Junji Ito, he is a master in creating images that make you want to throw up and I absolutely love that about him.

If you are debating which of Junji Ito’s work you should read I ... would recommend Uzumaki instead. Overall it just has a better flowing plot with an actual ending that ties everything together. Something to keep in mind while reading work of Junji Ito is that he is known for basically underdeveloping his characters so don’t expect a whole lot of smart decisions being made.
