great and refreshing anime to lure me back into watching it after being on and off for the past few years! death note has been on my watchlist maybe since after the very first anime i watched made me realize i wanted to watch more — that being said i’ve been meaning to get around to death note for the last 10 years. what a relief, then, that it hasn’t disappointed in the slightest. kinda.
you see, the first two thirds of this show or so are just so masterfully done that it clicked so perfectly to why death note has remained in the public consciousness
...
for so many years, why light yagami is a name that always stuck in my mind with the attached outfit and potato chip memes despite me knowing practically nothing outside that. whatever you want, you’ll get from here in a way that feels like the best of the best for an anime in the 00’s: realistic and morally gray characters with loads of depth and room for speculation, a perfectly paced story that suspends your belief *just* enough to be entertaining, thrilling, anxiety inducing, and sometimes even comedic, and some killer songs and voice acting. almost even transcending it’s shōnen jump origins at times with just how cruel and heartless this story can be.
and then you get to that last third.
i almost considered dropping the show and leaving myself with my happy thoughts that i felt before. one of the most critical and compelling parts of this show for me was completely dropped, filled with a new component, though lacking the understanding of what made the show great in the first place. pacing all over the place and arcs over in a second, leaving no impact and no room for me to care. from my understanding, this isn’t really a problem with the source material as it is with the anime adaptation just mishandling everything in this final stretch, but it really added up. i’m satisfied with the ending of the show, but overall, i just left with such a bittersweet experience.
i really did love this show until that point. i really, really did, and was thinking about the possibility that death note would be in my top anime, but the ball had been dropped. my recommendation? watch until episode 25 for one of the most fun anime i’ve seen in a while. dont bother with the rest.

i really like this. i really, really do.
i like the animation and the art style: it's simplistic, but not in a bad way. the characters are really emotive and i really like how their legs look so dangly? lol it's really cute. i don't know how to explain it, but the art just felt really comforting?
i like that this is only 60 minutes. the movie gets straight to the point without dawdling, which is a breath of fresh air. it's short and sweet and doesn't waste your time. i never felt bored during this movie. this is also in part due to the story
...
being told in vignettes, but i really think this style of story telling should be embraced more in slice of life anime! drama tends to ebb and flow, and i like that this anime recognized that. it's very refreshing, and it definitely felt realistic.
i like that the characters are the perfect mix of over exaggerated anime tropes and actual high schoolers' personality. these kids are dramatic. they're awkward. they're impulsive. but they've also got that anime charm! the thing with a lot of these mlm anime is i feel like they focus more on the fact that this is a mlm relationship rather than the relationship or the characters themselves. however, i really liked how kusakabe and sajou were really fleshed out well! i loved getting to peek into their lives and learn about both them individually and their relationship. i really appreciated this representation. a lot.
and i've been talking about the characteristics of this movie a lot more than the actual plot but the movie itself is just so cute. these characters are really loveable and the story is tooth rottingly sweet. i wish this movie was longer, though (i'm pretty sure there's a lot more of their story in the manga, which i'll definitely check out!), but other than that, i loved this. a lot.

it's good! i enjoyed watching it a lot.
the art style is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. i really enjoyed the visuals in this, and it was hard for me to believe that this anime and the manga were created by one person. though the animation gets janky at times, i love the style and the colors used.
the story was very short, but sweet. i liked the story it was trying to tell about the two main characters, even if it was very indulgent and the characters were somewhat bland. (also, the title is genius).
the voice acting is pretty good, and i like how emotive myeong
...
is, despite the lack of time we spent with him. clair de lune is also a wonderful piece that i think fits this anime very well. (now, when i listen to clair de lune, i just think of this anime0.
overall, i enjoyed it a lot. it wasn't anything spectacular, but it is a pretty good series of shorts.

terrifying, beautiful, heartwarming, and heartbreaking all at the same time.
the animation is amazing, incredibly detailed, and so silky smooth. the 24 frames per second makes me wanna cry. yet, the animation also has this horrifying element to it, almost in the disgusting territory. it’s just jarring enough to be great.
the story kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. though i believe the movie could have ended 15 minutes earlier and i would have been satisfied, the pacing was great and i was really invested in the story. the cast of characters are also great too; i really didn’t dislike any of
...
the characters. not even the antagonists.
the soundtrack isn’t something i see many people talking about. more people should talk about it. it’s atmospheric as fuck, and it really fit the tone of this movie. i probably wouldn’t be as invested if the soundtrack wasn’t this good.
it’s not perfect. it has it faults. but akira is timeless. you could have told me this movie was released last year and i would believe you. this movie’s influence is undeniable and it definitely lived up to my expectations.

the most beautiful animated film there is. truly a wonderful sight.
the loneliness in the movie just feels so real to me. although i do agree the story is a little shallow (and really weird between a 15 year old and a 20 something year old woman), i didn’t interpret it as a romantic relationship. i saw it more as takao being a hormonal teen and yukari being a woman who finds a kid she can confine in. the story of these two characters finding someone who can they can be with in their time of loneliness just feels so personal and relatable to me, and,
...
because of that, i really loved it. the idea of these people confiding with each other in the rain just felt so personal to me. i also love that this movie doesn’t overstay its welcome. at 45 minutes, this movie is wonderfully short, but sweet.
now the real standout of this movie: the animation. it truly is the most beautiful animation in an animated movie. the rain is just so so beautiful. the pond just looks so realistic. the amount of detail, from the shoes, to the cans of beer, to the chopped food, everything just looks beautiful.
the soundtrack is also wonderfully fitting. it’s definitely my favorite soundtrack for an animated movie, period. the piano is just so heartbreaking and so fitting for this movie. i really do love it.
this movie has left a really deep impression on me. i don’t think i’ll ever forget it.

this movie deserves all the praise it got.
it’s built on a common premise, but it executes that premise so, so, so well. this movie takes you through twists and turns and it never feels boring or like the information it’s telling you is useless. the characters in this movie are just so wonderfully done, and the ending is just so, so satisfying. not only that, but the animation was so beautifully done. this movie is just a joy to watch.
definitely one of the most iconic animated movies ever. i think i’ll always have a special place in my heart for your name.

this anime was very, very short, so i'll keep this review concise. i really liked it. i really did.
my favorite thing about this anime is definitely the animation. LORD! the animation. the buttery smooth frames? the detail when there's a fight? the ART STYLE?! mwah. chef's kiss. i love it. it's SO good.
also? the soundtrack. THE SOUNDTRACK. this anime has such a diverse soundtrack. and it's. so. so. so good. buddy ryo is my favorite, but they all do such a great job at setting up atmosphere for this anime.
the characters (other than akira) are just okay. i like akira's characterization and personality a
...
lot, but everyone else is just fine (ryo is a little better, but he's still just lukewarm). the story took me on a really fun adventure, but the ending was not for me. i would be lying, though, if i didn't cry multiple times during this anime; there will be scenes that will haunt me forever.
if you're fine with the nudity and the gore, i highly recommend you give this one a watch. it's only 10 episodes, so it'll only take a bit over 3 hours to get through. it isn't for everyone, but i think it's at least worth giving a chance.

well. i went into this knowing shit hits the fan at some point. did not expect it to be to that extent.
i don't think any anime i've ever watched would be able to prepare me for neon genesis evangelion. it's always been on my watch list, and i've always known people considered it a work of art. when i decided to turn it on, i really expected a lot. i wasn't disappointed.
i love all the characters. i love how deep every character is. i'm not going to say that none of the characters were one dimensional, but many of them had layers. they all had
...
pasts that shaped them into the way they are. they have a reason to act the way they do. even though you don't like a character, you are given a reason to care about them; you understand their motivations. you can't completely despise them, even if they're a total jerk. the characters are so humanly flawed, and it's amazing.
the story is very interesting. i really liked watching things unfold, and episodes 21-24 were definitely a fun time for me. BUT. i had no clue what was going on half of the time. characters would throw out long words i can't pronounce, talk about "first children" this or "first impact" that and i would have NO clue what was going on. especially episodes 25-26... i get it's supposed to be artsy and symbolic and stuff, but it just isn't enjoyable if you don't understand what's happening. would it seriously kill them to explain SOMETHING? ANYTHING?
this anime really is a treasure. i commend it for doing things that other animes hadn't done before, and it was very interesting to watch unfold. rarely do you ever get an anime that subverts and flips expectations like this one. however, it is confusing as fuck. 8/10 (7/10 overall but +1 point for having both cruel angel's thesis and fly me to the moon.... what an iconic soundtrack)

now THIS is good.
this movie is everything that i wanted from the show and more. like i said in my review of bunny girl senpai, i wished that they simply condensed the show down to a movie (i thought it would be much more enjoyable that way), as the first arc was the only really good thing about the show for me. this movie basically does exactly that--take a good arc, make a movie out of it.
the story was phenomenal. it reminded me a lot of your name and beyond the boundary. it's definitely much more interesting than the arcs in the show, and everything
...
that was built up in the show culminated together wonderfully to create this amazing movie. the story is just so, so good.
i will say some parts really tested my suspension of disbelief. there's a specific moment that made me go, "wow, how convenient is that?" things get a little wild and weird sometimes. though, ii feel like the overall product was good enough to erase those failures.
my opinion on the show was that it was just okay. this movie is great, and if you think the show is lukewarm, then i guarantee that watching this movie will make you feel like watching the show was worth it.

it's okay.
i was really expecting more from this one, considering the hype. i was very, very disappointed. perhaps it's because i enjoy shonen more than shojo, but i really found bunny girl senpai to be really boring. the worst part is i genuinely enjoyed the first arc and the very last one. those were really, really interesting. however, it seems that, following the first arc, the show just goes downhill from there.
the show really had potential, and i feel like the conflict during the first arc could have been stretched out during the entire show WHILE all the other arcs were happening in the
...
background. really feel like this show could have benefited from having a central plot. but it doesn't, and it bored me. a lot.
i'm still giving it a 6. i don't hate the show and i see the appeal. however, it just didn't work for me.
