I just finished Kiseijuu and I feel a hole in my chest. No pun intended tho.
My friends asked me to watch this show so many times I got angry about it, but alone in my room, bored, I decided to give it a shot!
Kiseijuu or Parasyte, is a anime adaptation of a manga about a boy named Shinichi who'll eventually get his hand eaten by a parasite and they kinda turn out to be friends in the end. That's all you need to know about the plot, besides the great amount of exciting fights and gore.
A lot of people complain about Kiseijuu being a generic
...
sci-fi view of aliens, but I completely disagree and we'll get there, just wait.
Kiseijuu’s story is unique and amazing, you see, aliens come to destroy humanity and save the Earth, but in the middle of the process, some of this aliens have existential questions, they don't know where they came from or why they're here, they only have this desire to destroy humans at all costs, but as the anime continues, we see them questioning themselves and each other, we see them trying to comprehend the human nature and our feelings. They evolve as beings, in the end, you can even say they have these human feelings, they feel sorry, they feel angry, they want to protect the ones they have around them. Even Migi, our parasite protagonist, in the end, after only showing how much parasites are cold beings, feels lonely in episode 23.
Kiseijuu teaches us a lesson, the message in the end is strong and even if you don't like the animation or the rest of the story, you have to agree with me.
Not only the parasytes are looking for their humanity, but one of the struggles of Shinichi is finding his. Every now and then he looks at himself as a monster and this is what he fights the most -to feel human again.
This show has an amazing story, with amazing characters and strong messages for us to think about. The animation is so soft and pretty, I have nothing to complain about.
The characters are really alive, but lame at the same time. Kana made me so angry with all that stupid shoujo feelings, but it's okay, almost everyone likes her so I guess I'm just a bitter person. Satomi is the definition of useless character, she does completely nothing and only exists to be Shinichi's girlfriend, there are also their friends who are completely useless characters as well.
The only flaw of the plot is on episode 23, when a character [kind of a spoiler I guess?] dies and comes back, It totally takes away the pain and the meaning of his sacrifice. But I can't lie, I'm happy because he was my favorite character so hey, this is almost completely biased.
Anyway, I'm not a person who likes to rewatch shows, but I'll have some amazing memories of this anime and I'll definitely read the manga.
