Haikyuu is one of those manga series that I wish I never put off. If you're balancing between reading the manga and/or watching the anime do it NOW. My biggest regret is not jumping on this series the first time I heard about it. It's a beautiful story of overcoming adversity, a love for sports, and friendships that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This review is based off the North American translation of book one.
Hai to Gensou no Grimgar. What it lacks in premise makes up for fully in its characters. While it may seem like your traditional Isekai (random group is teleported to an RPG style world) story, the characters in this story are all amazing, all with their own layered personalities and personal traumas/drives. Instead of our main characters being overpowered from the beginning and destined for greatness, we sit back and watch as they struggle to take in this new reality. A Whisker Away was enjoyable but in no way revolutionary in the story it tells. I give Netflix props to acquiring the film to put on their streaming service, and I appreciate more and more streaming services picking up more anime for people to watch (even though Netflix's licensing for seasons is extremely confusing in the west).
The characters range from well written to average. The story is strong in the first half, however it slowly starts to fall apart in the second. The art however, is beautiful and stays strong throughout the entire movie. While A Whisker Away is nothing special I still recommend giving ... |
