**minor spoilers and some strong language ahead**
I, like a lot of people definitely did think that megalo box didn't necessarily need a second season, as in the first season the major arc was already completed.
The second season of Megalo box tells your that not everything has to be in an optimistic way. This second season I feel like is the anime that truly shows you some of the realistic terms of life. A lot of themes were covered in this anime that you wouldn't expect from a sci-fi sports anime, these topics such as drug abuse, depression, trauma, and being alienated. It doesn't take too
...
long for the series to say that things weren't the way that they were in the first season. At first it may be a little confusing at first but as the series and episodes unfold things start to make more sense and shows you the dark yet realistic views in life and it gives you a slight realization of "Holy fuck" these things can happen in life. Every episode makes you feel like you should appreciate the things that you have, and these things you don't forget immediately, this stuff sticks with you (well at least for me)
As for art it's amazing and it differs from a lot of anime coming out nowadays. Catching the aesthetics of akira and cowboy bebop gave but still feeling unique. This art style perfectly embodies the dark and gritty world that Megalo box is set in.
The sound in this series has always been amazing and there are some scenes that where the music would help you easily convey the emotions that are in the atmosphere. From the hip hop styled soundtrack that was the first season, the second season takes a more acoustic and somber take which is perfect for this new setting.
The characters in the anime is absolutely genius, these characters are very refreshing to see in anime, you can see this broken down man getting haunted by his trauma which is resulting in guilt and interfering with any of his future decisions and even to a point contemplating suicide. Of course a character is introduced that helps our main character recover from his trauma, and unlike a lot of anime our new character (chief) has motives to in fact help out main character. I could write a ton of pages just regarding on how amazing these characters are but unfortunately I just don't have enough time.
I enjoyed watching this anime a lot but for different reasons that other anime give off. *this section will be involving me in my real life and how this anime affected me, so if you aren't interested scroll to the bottom where I give my conclusion to the anime*. So I watched this anime a month after my father died I was stuck in this loop where I was confused and I couldn't make out what I was trying to feel. I initially watched Megalo box to try and get myself into boxing as my father loved the sport and played it when he was younger, but not only did I get interesting the sport but I found a very human touch to this anime, the second season takes a more psychological route which shapes up to be some of the greatest characters i've ever seen and it has a very human relationship and you can even understand why these characters feel that way.
overall the anime's writing is absolutely genius and it is definitely worth watching regardless if you're in a dark period in your life or if you just want something to enjoy.
This anime gets a 10/10
