I should just quickly start off implying that there are MANY and MANY sensitive topics, such as pshycological abuse, physical abuse, suicide attempts and the list goes on. So, weak readers or just people who don't enjoy this kind of things...KILLING STALKING ISN'T FOR YOU.
- OVERALL:
I think this manga is a masterpiece. It's brilliant and I really liked it. Yes, it sure made me a lot uncomfortable in some specific scenes but, in overall, I very much enjoyed reading it. It's definetly not cliché and it easily caught my attention that I couldn't stop reading. The art? Couldn't be better.
- SANGWOO:
It sure is a
...
hard topic to talk about, but I think his character was perfectly created. Sangwoo was invented to be this manipulative psycopath and murderer with a fucked up past that he turned out to be. The author clearly put a lot of effort into him and I love it. I'm gonna admit it, I used to hate him (as i was expected to). But then, I realized he was actually "understandable"? Not saying what he did was right, because he was a true motherfucker, but he was also mentally ill. Just like Yoonbum. His mother tried to poison him many times since he was a kid, made him see her cheating on his father and then kill him and later she killed herself in front of him and cursed him saying he'd die in the worst way; not forgetting to mention that his father would beat his mom up in front of him and was really abusive. Sangwoo had NO pshycological help (and I think he would be diagnosed as a bipolar person/a person suffering from borderline and depression). It was OBVIOUS he'd come out as someone like that, what did you expect? And I think that him being like this is what makes his character so remarkable. The fact he had such a dark past, was really manipulative and knew how to lie on the spot...A true "antagonist", as I'm gonna call him.
- YOONBUM: I don't even know how to start talking about him, he suffered his whole life. Well...I think we can all agree he also was someone who had a lot of trauma: both of his parents were dead since he was a baby and he was molested by his uncle. Because of all of his trauma (being neglected and abused his whole life, not knowing the definition of love or respect in general), he became a depressed kid who emotionally depended on anyone who'd be a bit nice to him. First, there was that one girl with some lil heart thingies on her cheeks he thought he was attracted to (but I sincerely disagree that was love), then there was Sangwoo. He also didn't really know how to deal with all the trauma and relied all of it onto his idea of what love meant. I wish I could talk more about Yoonbum and go deeper into him like I did with Sangwoo but I think the whole plot involving him is about his relationship with Sangwoo (the next topic below) and I don't want to keep repeating what I say. So yeah read the topic below.
- THEIR RELATIONSHIP:
All of Sangwoo's story with Yoonbum and everything that happened between the two of them clearly wasn't about love, of course. The author herself even confirmed SANGWOO IS NOT GAY NOR HAS HOMOSEXUAL TENDENCIES, he in fact is straight and that wasn't yaoi. He'd only do that kind of stuff so he could get Yoonbum on his side and manipulate him. More proof of that is that it is shown Sangwoo only didn't kill Yoonbum at first because he reminded him of his mom (and also Sangwoo would make Yoonbum wear "girl's clothes" multiple times so he'd look more like one). I'm also sure Yoonbum didn't love Sangwoo, it was all about him emotionally depending on people and his head tricking him, as I talked about earlier. He didn't really know how to deal with all the trauma and relied all of it onto his idea of what love meant. So no, that wasn't love. Yoonbum desperately wanted to feel appreciated by someone he thought he loved and he'd do anything for Sangwoo to recognize him. And even if he actually did have some true feelings for Sangwoo, they all disappeared in the basement. Sangwoo took advantage of "his feelings" and manipulated Yoonbum for his own good, that's all. Their "relationship" wasn't affectionate in any way and some people shipping them or whatsoever are so fucking stupid. STOP ROMANTICIZING TOXIC AND ABUSIVE RELAITONSHIPS. THAT'S NOT OKAY. HEAR ME OUT, YOU LITTLE SHITS. FOR FUCK'S SAKE.
- THE ENDING:
The only thing that made me pissed was the ending. The author wanted to make all readers suffer, for real. I was sure it wasn't gonna have a happy ending, after everything Yoonbum went through, but damn. It was so disappointing seeing a strong character like Sangwoo die because a fucking granny covered his face with a fucking pillow. He was also calling for Yoonbum, what was he wanting to say? And Yoonbum- Obviously he was seeing things at Sangwoo's house. But I was really confused with who that woman Sangwoo was walking with at the end was. I thought it could be his mom but she didn't look like her, was she just some random girl?
I don't know if that's something wrong to wish, and I'm also not catholic, but I hope Sangwoo's in Heaven with Yoonbum. He suffered a lot, too. Both of them deserve to be there. I hope they can get their shit together and shit.
- END OF REVIEW.
Woosh, if you've read till here so far: Thanks! I spent a whole 1 hour and 49 minutes writing all this. Hope someone can agree with me. Bye :)
