TLDR at bottom:
I actually enjoyed the first season of re. It offered a decent story line as well as some cool visuals. However, the second seasons falls COMPLETELY flat. This is due to the fact that they tried to stuff 200 sum chapters of manga into only 20 episodes of anime. This is a recipe for disaster.

Story: Kaneki has now gained his memories back is fighting for the ghouls. He has turned on the CCG. This season feels like constant fighting with no purpose. If you aren't paying full attention you're going to have ZERO clue of what is going on. And even if ... you're paying attention you still may have questions at times. The show constantly skips conversations and team planning. For example, the season starts with the CCG raiding Aogiri tree's base WITH NO HEADS UP. Like when the hell did we plan this? This dynamic continues episode after episode. Fights break out for what seems like no apparent reason besides "we hate ghouls and ghouls hate us". The show never slows down to explain anything. If you are looking for a good Tokyo ghoul experience, just read the manga. I will at least give the story some credit. If you already understand what's going on then it's not a bad story.

Characters: Honestly, this season has no viewer to character interaction besides Kaneki and Touka having sex on screen for like 5 whole minutes. it was pretty uncomfortable to be honest. But that's besides the point. This show never lets the viewer gain attachment to characters as we have no interaction with characters. Like I said, the show is almost constant fighting. 80% of screen time in this season is probably fighting.

Animation: You would think a show with a lot of combat would at least have some good animation? WRONG! Animation is just disappointing. The fight scenes are lazy and it seems like every attack is just a slash attack which somehow always lands. super lame. Also for some reason characters will put ghouls in a head lock forgetting they can just shoot their kagune out from their back? its stupid.

READ THE MANGA

It took me 4 years to watch this after completing the first and second season of Tokyo Ghoul. I had no interest in continuing the story as I wasn't the biggest fan of the first two seasons, but after hearing mixed reviews about this season, I decided to go ahead and give it a shot.

Story: Story follows Haise (Kaneki) working for the CCG to take down ghouls. we are introduced to some new characters that work alongside Haise as well. The first 12 episodes follow Haise as he is confused about who he really is (Kaneki, a ghoul). He wants to discover ... his true self but is constantly scared that he won't like his true self. The first 12 episodes really harp on the fact that Haise is having an internal battle while having to fight his old comrades (ghouls). It's actually a good psychological dynamic where the viewer has to choose a side. Human or ghoul? Which side is justified? Although Haise's internal battle is interesting the show takes us along the ride as the CCG runs constant raids and battles against the ghouls. It gets confusing at times. Sometimes I would be like "wait how did this fight start again?" 7/10

Characters: The characters do have some depth to them, thankfully. Characters back stories are discussed and add to the feelings you harbor toward them. Alongside some decent character depth is some pretty cool character design. I have always been a fan of the character design in this series. There is a diverse mix up of different character styles all equally badass as the other. This dynamic helps the viewer actually give a shit about the characters AND provide some cool visuals as well.

Animation/Visuals: I've always been a fan of Tokyo ghouls visuals. They're edgy. it sounds cringe but that's exactly why I enjoy it. Re carries the same edgy cool looking visuals as the first two seasons. The show also provides some pretty stunning still shot visuals that caught my eye. However, I'm not a huge fan of the animation. Fight scenes were lacking SEVERELY in animation. if you were looking for some cool fights scenes, turn away. This is not the place.

This is my first review, and for good reason. This show wasted my time and ultimately left me upset. After watching the first episode, I was hooked! However, this feeling did not stick around.

Story: This guy is unhappy with his current life and is offered to take a pill to appear younger and attend high school. This show had the potential to be a masterpiece but just decided not to be. Before I go any further I want to applaud the fact that this show did not sexualize high school girls. I really appreciated that and it made it so much easier to watch. ... The main character was surprisingly not a pedo and actively reminded himself these girls are in high school and romanticizing them is weird. However, this did not cover up the fact that the story just wasn't there. 90% of this show was following high school girls drama and 10% was actually ReLIFE related. Most of the episodes would follow side characters and their drama and at the last second a ReLIFE related scene would appear. Effectively reminding you that there is still a story and not just mindless drama. Just for the next episode to be more mindless drama. Ultimately this show is a lot of stupid and random drama that has NOTHING to do with the main character or the story.

Animation: This show has the standard box style animation that was around from the 2010-2020 era. It's right in between a vintage anime style and the new style we know today. It's just boring. Characters look like they are boxes and have no depth.

Characters: wow wow wow are these guys boring. A lot of this show is just characters misunderstanding each others feelings and not effectively communicating. Which makes sense for a high school setting however I feel the author uses this excuse to just create mindless drama and draw out the story. Our main character doesn't really have that much depth to him. he's just a guy who didn't take advantage of his early life and the show doesn't even really address this fully. Like I said 90% of this show is mindless drama.

Final Thoughts: I was really excited for this show but it just fell flat. the author had so much potential yet did nothing with it. such a shame that a 10/10 story was wasted on this flop.
