Superb. The best example of a slow, slice-of-life anime. It's an introspective manga that takes place over a massive number of years. there's no overarching plot, just the day-to-day happenings of a humanity in it's twilight. It makes you think and feel in abundance, and Alpha is a great protagonist to view all this through. Honestly of all the post-apocalypses in media this is probably the most beautiful.

Honestly I could probably go so far as to say it's quite a philosophical manga, but that might be overstating its intentions. I really do think this is mandatory reading for SoL fans, or introspective thinkers in ... general really.

Note: The joke in this anime is that the protagonist is mentally challenged. That's the joke you're supposed to laugh at. Of course it's not outright said, but one look through other reviews (and watching the first couple of episodes) makes this pretty clear.

This is another fantasy anime about someone who has one really great skill and is overlooked because of stuff. Sorry, I simply don't have the energy to explain this premise again. If you're new to it, look to another example before watching this. Our protagonist is dreadful, that much is bad enough. Worse than that though is everyone around him, who simply ... goes along with it for mysterious reasons. He meets the king, is incredibly rude and gets given the most amazing sword because, well, it's funny?! The joke there is that he doesn't know it's the king, btw. In fact, it appears to be that he doesn't know what a king is.

Don't waste your time, if you're in the mood for this then Ossan Newbie is also on this season. It's not great but it's at least an outright comedy.

For context: I'm not very familiar with how certain minorities are treated in modern-day Japan. I do believe shows like this, that cover how difficult it is to be genuinely different from your peers as an adolecent, are important. It'd probably fair to say though outside of offering visibility this doesn't have a lot to offer as an entertaining anime.

What we have is an anime that answers important questions about sexuality and gender norms, and how murky the whole subject can be, especially for teenagers. What we don't have is an entertaining, or deeply written, romcom anime. It's tough to exactly pinpoint, but outside of ... highlighting a series of tough situations to be in it really doesn't do much more. Again, as a show it's simply ok. Outside of that I'm not best placed to judge.

If you want a good romcom there are loads more out there, and if you want a good series on dealing with gender and sexuality issues I really recommend reading the Love Me for Who I Am manga. Again, this isn't a bad show but I think it's a little weak.

For a show that's little more just another wholesome harem anime this is actually surprisingly good. It's unoriginal with characters you can largely compare directly to others in similar series (particularly one with the initials QQ) but for some reason I found this fun and relaxing to watch. Ok well if I'm being honest I really do recommend this, it's great. It's more of a binge watch show in my opinion though.

Characters
Well, if you've seen Bokuben or Quintessential Quintuplets you know the girls characters but they are reasonably well rounded and fun. There is a fair bit of mystery which is kept for quite some ... time, keeping it interesting. The diverse personalities and different backgrounds do help to add some originality from the other shows. The only warning is that part of the girls introductions is that the show is absolutely front loaded with fan service, but it eases off that pedal after a while, it can be pretty tiring early on though.

Not-Futaro is interesting, even if I can't remember his name. He's cynical and quickly creates an adverserial relationship with the girls, both because they're in his house and because of they're ties to his grandma.

Story
It's a character narrative with the girls backgrounds being the primary focus and other minor antagonists being secondary storylines. It's paced extremely well, as I say it's absolutely perfect for a binge watch, or at least batch watching. There isn't a lot more to say here.

Summary
The art and sound are serviceable so didn't warrant further comment. Other than that though it's one of the best examples of it's genre. QQ and Bokuben have paved the way for sure, but this folllows their path by taking a bit more of Bokuben's comedy and QQ's character archetypes. This is overthinking it though, it's wholesome and fun to watch. It's won't convert you into harem comedies though.

Aimed at a target audience. In a phrase, this anime aims directly for fans of romcom, SoL, silly, lighthearted anime. It hits all the tropes, even a number of highschool ones, and doesn't try to be something it's not. It's also aimed at people who have specific tastes, but that's not really worth covering more than others already have. You can enjoy it without that.

The main couple have surprising chemistry, though it doesn't actually ever really explain why they like about eachother other than broad personality traits. Again, this show isn't going for depth. The supporting cast are all fun with diverse and eccentric personalities, ... the small cast also not overcomplicating things.

This is a tough show to review really, because it is what it is and isn't very deep. It is quite funny and I enjoyed my time with it. Even the art style is simple, which actually works for the show. If you want a lighthearted show because your down or tired this is probably perfect. It's easily bingeable and won't push you. For what it's worth, I just wanted to lay down on the couch and turn off my brain, and I really enjoyed it in that context.

Even knowing there's a twist isn't enough to spoil this show. In fact it doesn't hide that something is amiss pretty much from episode 1. The question is can you stand the first half season before getting there. I managed to make my way through it because knowing there was something coming up to change things up kept me going. If you struggle early on try to pick up on things that don't make sense, it got me through so it might help you.

Then the twist. Frankly, the show completely changes genres and all the weirdness is finally explained. Honestly I think it does an ... amazing job, I've not seen another show like it. I think this show is actually more relevant now than when it came out. For reasons I can't explain this deserves to me seen.

Maybe it's because I'm older, maybe it's genuinely down to the writing, but this felt like a bit of a struggle at times. Konosuba is still funny and follows exactly the same beats you expect, but don't expect anything to have changed. It's fine, if you're a fan I think you should watch it. Honestly though I was bored and frustrated at times as everyone acts exactly how they've always acted, despite this being season 3 (not including the movie).

This season pretty much abandons the adventuring premise, relying on the horrible personalities of these characters. A couple of new characters are introduced and we return ... to some others, which is nice.

Trying to review this season seems a bit pointless really. The overall point is that I felt a little disappointed. It's more of the same and that might be enough for some, but anime sequal seasons are pretty rare and this just felt like it was killing time until it was all over. After the movie that somehow felt doubley disappointing.

A really weird comedy anime that lives up to the 'eccentric' in its name. This made me think of Azumanga Diaoh and Lucky Star a little, as well as a few other shows to a lesser extent. It's recommended if you like comedy, especially if you like weird comedy.

The characters are all extremely odd. From an assistant that's in love with a building to Sara, who's effortless charm seems to win everyone over. Even the cult leader is kinda adorable (if problematic). These are all characters with quirk and depth, the whole anime is built around them and that is to its strength. Tbh Sara ... alone might be enough to keep you interested, she's a fantastic character with really fun stories and skits.

As far as plot goes, as alluded to there isn't one. Really. None. Not that I could work out. The description gives you all sorts of grand notions but make no mistake, this is just pure comedy. I can't even argue there's character growth on display here. I didn't mind as the humor kept me engaged but this is probably a killer for some.

Now to get to the one massive issue this show has. Livia. She's eternally optimistic and a great character, but she's clearly the one character the creator hates and wants to put through the wringer. She's homeless, abandoned, sexually abused and conned, among other things. All in the name of comedy. This is something anime likes to do occasionally, randomly pick a female character to kick repeatedly, but I hate it. It's not funny, it's pathetic. Pretty every scene is a different way she's played as a gullible moron who has it coming.

Watching this kinda makes me want to watch Lucky Star or Azumanga Diaoh again honestly. While fun the issue with Livia and it's overall varied quality leave me with a mixed impression. Outside of a few standout characters and funny skits it's not great. It feels different to many cookie-cutter anime made today and maybe that's enough.

This is an interesting show. I can't speak to its accuracy so I'll avoid that subject. While I recommend it's worth knowing I usually hate shows about the anime or VA industry (no, I don't know why either, but I do).

The focus of the show is about the two protagonists who essentially get lumped together because they go to the same school, despite bieng completely different. They're careers get tied together and this only increases as time goes on. They openly hate eachother and consider eachother rivals, yet they're both good people who value the others talent. That is essentially the basis for everything that ... happens in the plot.

Frankly, it works extremely well. The rival nature really makes everything wonderfully complex and the narrative extremely compelling, with one exception. Yuuhi's mum is aweful, like unacceptably aweful. Anything more would be a spoiler but there is an arc that frankly borders on the absurd. This is minor and leads into the compelling last arc, which mostly takes up the entire last half of the anime, but it is there for a couple of episodes and really annoyed me as she was totally irrational (although for a good reason).

It's hard to recommend this for a specific audience, which is an issue. I don't know who their target is other than maybe people looking for a small Oshi No Ko fix. It is kinda funny, definitely hartwarming and enjoyable, but you have to just give it a shot without knowing if you're the target market. Still, I recommend it.

Cute, simple fun anime with a very loose harem context. Mostly it's a sort of found family comedy, at least that's the bit I enjoyed. This isn't groundbreaking but I found it relaxing and fun.

I'm not a fan of harem anime at all in all honesty, so here are my two big usual issues and why this is one I enjoyed:
Dreadful protagonist - I hate the usual highly strung, terrified of women (or, shock horror, seeing part of naked woman). While our friend here isn't entirely different he is a lot of fun and has a good nature. He's openly quite lonely at the beginning ... which really helps the growth he experiences make sense.
Objectification of women - Most harems seem to see women as romantic and sexual objects only. Rarely do they have agency, intellect or lives of they're own. While Towa is very much like this it is discussed, to a limited degree, throughout the show. The other factor that helps is the romance element is kept really lightweight, these are just a bunch of lonely people who've found friends in eachother.

As I say, I didn't have to overthink this and found it fun for that reason. There's an element of Interviews with Monster Girls here, which helped me enjoy it. Give it a shot if this these genres are ones you enjoy.
