Divergence Eve is a show that shows some great potential with its diverse character line up and seemingly interesting plot, but in actuality is quite a bit of fail.
The story, i am actually trying to still figure out myself. Things just don't seem to make much sense no matter which way you look at them. Especially that WTF ending that leads into season two, which i have not finished watching at this time but will get to in time.
The back story is simple enough, and you can understand what is going on at specific moments in the show, but to get
...
an overall idea of what is what, and when is when will twist you brain.
The art work is done very well, the animation is decent, the only down side is the use of of CGI with the anime. This is one case where the two are not mixed properly and it makes it look really stupid.
The characters are nothing special, though some of the higher ranked secondary characters do grab your attention with secret plotting and what not. The point of the characters in this is basically fan service. Boobs bouncing and clothes that are very revealing or being ripped off are something to expect. Nothing particularly memorable about them.
This was a mildly entertaining show. Its interesting to see the alien things fighting and some of the sci fi elements they throw in to spice it up. Since the show was confusing as hell, it doesn't get high marks in that area, but its not completely terrible.
Overall, this is something to watch if you have nothing else to watch. Or if you want fan service, this is good for that too. Dont expect anything much from it, and if you make it through the show, there is a season two that will hopefully make some sense of things.
Oh and watch the sub because the dub just isn't that great.

This is a one episode OVA that, to be quite honest, is not worth anyones time. If you just wanna see some girls do a few action sequences, fine, but don't expect ANYTHING from this show. That is all.

Bakuretsu Hunters (Sorcerer Hunters in english) falls under the categories of Fantasy, adventure, and comedy.
This show starts off with each episode having its own plot line, but eventually once we get some back stories, the full plot comes into view. There is nothing really complicated about the story, nothing intricate, in fact it is a very linear plot line, but that doesn't mean its not interesting. And things do pick up a lot in the second half of the series (known as the Spell Wars)
Through the story, we get to know the characters very well, getting flashbacks and such so we can have
...
a better understanding of the relationships they share with eachother. The characters themselves are all quite crazy in some way, they definitely keep you liking them. The emotional/sexual tension between them is always good for a laugh as well.
The art is done decently, not top notch, but for the old hand colored style, it is great. although the personalities of the characters keep the mood up, the color schemes and overall environment of the show tends to place a dark tone which is a nice balance, especially towards the end.
The sound is very good in this show. they use of comical effects and magical ones is on the ball, and everything from character themes to the opening and closings are very enjoyable to listen to. I have seen both the dub and sub, and must say the dub is pretty funny, they really brought out the characters with it, but the sub is also done amazingly. I think i would recommend the sub over dub just because in the dub, Tira can be annoying to listen to, and she doesn't seem to have the best match up ever.
Overall, they mix of drama and comedy is done very well, especially as the show goes on. The secrets that some of the characters possess are also very fascinating to learn about. A great watch, very entertaining. Check it out.

This show is one of the definitions of random. I will say right now, if you demand structure or linear plot lines, turn back now.
Excel Saga actually not only tells the story of Excel and her escapades, but it is actually three different story lines going at once.
We have the tale of Excel, Pedro, and The Neighbors that work for the city.
With that said, the story is not easily reviewable but here goes.
Well to tell the truth, there really is no story (aside from trying to take over the city) until the last few episodes when random twists of fate bring all three story
...
lines together (dont worry that didn't ruin anything)
Each episode of Excel saga is meant to be a parody of different genre, for instance, there is a sci-fi episode, a fantasy episode, a "power rangers/sailor moon" type one, etc etc. Throughout the course of these episodes, stranger and stranger things start happening and its always entertaining, sometimes funny, sometimes WTF.
The episodes that dont so much focus on Excel have no plot either, and are more of the "daily life" type anime episodes.
As for the art, the animation is top notch. Everything is well colored, choreographed, and presented. They make use of a wide array of animation styles for the various episodes and characters which is a plus.
The sound......i dont even know. This is one of the reasons you love it or hate it. Excel talks extremely fast about the most random things and she can get to be very annoying, or very entertaining. And you may think that "oh she can't talk like this the whole time" but you are wrong, almost the entire time she is running that jaw of hers. Dub or sub, she sounds the same, i dont have a recommendation, pick whichever you normally watch.
Aside from the vocal tracks, the music is quite entertaining. The character themes and sound effects play a big role to help emphasize scenes and actions.
As for enjoyment, I personally found the show very entertaining although at times i did want excel to just STFU but it was worth it in the end to watch it. Dont watch this for any kind of epic plot because you will be disappointed, but if you want highly entertaining, high energy and comical times, check this show out.

This show is all about moe.
The story is nothing special by any means, its mostly just one of the "day to day life" of the characters with random things happening here and there. Most of the enjoyment in this show comes from the relational battles and character interactions, and of course everything being uber moe.
The art is done pretty good, all the characters look well done. There aren't a whole lot of scene changes so there isn't a whole lot of backgrounds or moving animation sequences but for what there is, it all looks good. Lots of bright and happy colors to
...
keep everything in an upbeat mood for the most part.
As for the characters themselves, they all seem to have quirky things about them that makes them interesting, with the exception of the main character being the typical harem guy figure.
The sound is good. For the cyber doll effects, they did a cute job with the various sound effects of the robotics and other little misc things of the sort. The sound track is nice and happy as with the flow of the show.
I have seen both the dub and sub, and for sure go with the sub, not only do the voices in english not really portray the characters as well, but the girls just sound so much cuter in japanese, and that is what this show is all about.
Overall an average yet enjoyable watch. Since there is a lack of plot for most of the show, they try to throw in some emotional events and surprises at the end but it doesn't make up the lack everywhere else. Dont strain yourself to see this show, but dont completely ignore it.

Note this is reviewing season two of slayers.
Slayers Next continues on after the happenings of Slayers. We have our returning cast of amazing characters, but we are also introduced to some new ones that do not disappoint. Again the character section gets a 10 because of the witty, comical, and entertaining personalities that all the cast possess.
The story of Next is (in my opinion) far surpassing of that from the original series which is one overall Next scores a 9. As the plot develops, we are faced with mysteries and adventures that lead to new and exciting revelations. Along the way,
...
we get a good dose of back story and lots of made of mythology, which i believe to be one of the most interesting aspects of Slayers.
The artwork is the same as season one, although there is improvements in colors and other small details. It probably doesn't deserve a 9 but again I am biased towards the hand drawn/colored style so that is why.
Sound is pretty good again, with the introduction of new characters and magic, we get some pretty nice tunes and effects so its definitely a plus.
i've seen both the sub and dub of it, and i have to say i think the dub is done very well, each voice fits perfectly, it was just kinda hard to get over listening to Gourry at first since he is voiced by the same person that does Brock from Pokemon, but its all good. The sub is great too, but i think its funnier to hear a lot of the puns and jokes in english as opposed to reading them.
Excellent series. if you like it, there is a third and final season afterwards that you can look forward to.

Note That this is only about season one, not the series as a whole.
Slayers has a decent story line going for it, dealing with sorcerers and dark lords or destruction. Its very much a magical adventure story, along with some great humor. Despite the fact that the characters are made so well and the concepts of the magic etc are there, the plot does seem lacking at times, the writers could have done a better job writing it out.
One major draw back i did find with the story, is that there are TWO climax points, which is dumb because it seems
...
kind of hard to stay interested after the first climax happens since all the action and suspense drops back to ground level.
The art for the show is done well, but the fact that it is in older show is very apparent. Although i scored it rather high in that department because i am a fan of the hand drawn/colored style as opposed to computer enhanced style that has been the norm since the turn of the millennium.
The characters for slayers are some of the most unforgettable. In the show, we are introduced to what is possibly the most comical anime duo, that of Lina Inverse and Gourry Gabriev. These two are so full of energy and life that it almost seems impossible to not like them. As for the rest of the crew, they are all excellently made and thought out.
This show was very enjoyable to watch, i personally am a fan of the fantasy genre and Lina has a nice array of magic that is really cool to watch. Not only are the fantasy elements amazing, but the comedy is something that keeps you watching as well. The only draw back in watching, like stated before, is the roller coaster effect with the plot.
Over all a good show to watch, very entertaining, but again the plot is a little lacking. Don't be discouraged from watching though, since there are two more seasons, and trust me season two is definitely worth the wait.

BURN UP W! puts you in the shoes of Tokyo's special law enforcement team, TEAM WARRIOR.
This four episode OVA is hard to review since the first two eps are completely different the the second two but here goes.
first off, the art is pretty typical anime style, but they did a good job with it. The characters arn't plain at all, and the colors and overall artwork a really good.
First half:
These first two episodes are solely for introducing the characters and getting to know them. They are definately comedies with minimal amounts of action, but within all this, there is a plot building in
...
the background which will come into play later.
There is no character development or any intricate interactions, relational or otherwise, these episodes or more or less just some fan service and entertainment.
Second Half:
This is where the anime turns into something cool. These episodes build upon the plot that was revealed in the first couple, and which will come about later in the full series. These two episodes are packed with action and fighting and death.
The series takes on a serious and dark tone and makes it all the better. Still no character development but who cares, this show IS about babes with guns. This show probably doesn't actually deserve a 9 rating but i though those last two episodes were pretty bad ass.
Girls and guns, fun to watch but dont expect a masterpiece.
and as a note, i definitely recommend the sub since the dub is pretty crappy.

This is one of those anime taking place in older times, with knights and a medieval stuff, for a while anyway.
This show has a relatively slow moving plot, but once it picks up, you really start to get interested in it. I will admit though, even once it picks up, the plot still moves slow, but its the interesting things that happen that keep you wanting to watch more, and trust me, the ending is pretty sweet and worth watching.
The magic is pretty cool and the "bad guys" have some pretty unique talents that make battle scenes pretty fun to watch. there is
...
plenty of sword/physical fighting as well as magic and dragons to balance it out.
The characters are pretty interesting, although i have to say the secondary characters are more often than not more interesting than the main, even though the main characters is supposed to be wrapped in mystery. All the characters grow on you, and they balance out pretty well with each other.
The art work is done well for a medieval setting, and although some of the characters are lacking in the fresh look department, others more than make up for it.
Overall enjoyable series. I've only seen the dub which wasn't too bad, but the sub is probably better so watch that one if you can.

Full Metal Panic is for those who want action with mechs, but not have the show only revolve around war and battles, and FMP accomplishes that flawlessly.
FMP is about an Organization called Mithril that are something like celestial being from gundam 00 for those that have seen it. They intervene in things so that wars dont happen. But they are also out to protect certain people with the natural gift of knowledge of advanced technology called Whispered.
The main character is what makes this show so interesting. His whole life he has known nothing but military life and now he tries to adapt
...
to japanese high school life in order to protect a certain girl. Of course all the other characters are a great enjoyment to have in the show as well.
The art work in this pretty good, and the use of CGI is integrated well. The mechs and battles as a whole always look top notch.
although the story is based on the idea i stated above, it evolves as it goes and you get lots of back story which leads to a really nice overall plot.
This show is always a joy to watch because of the hilarious things done by the characters that are ingeniously intertwined with an excellent story of war and the like.
This is actually one show i recommend the dub over the sub (which is extremely rare) because they just did such an amazing job on it.
Amazing show, a must watch. be sure to watch the OVAish type sequel Fumoffu and the direct sequel TSR.
