As someone who had mixed feelings on AOT throughout its runtime, I am completely and utterly disappointed in this ending... What a pile of shit, btw there are going to be spoilers so be warned.
This here is the final arc of everything AOT has built upon: Paradis Arc. This final arc shows us Eren set in motion the act of the 'Rumbling' in which he goes forth with his 'genocide the entire world to guarantee the safety of the Eldians who he grew up with' plan. Whilst this is happening the people from Marley and Paradis island form an alliance to prevent Eren from committing

genocide. Every character ever built and is involved has been forced into this convoluted plot which discredits and removes every belief and thoughts that they had prior, in which I can't even tell who are the "good guys" or "bad guys" anymore, and this is because the story tells us: Committing mass genocide of the entire world to protect the island of people you grew up with is wrong. And on the other hand, if you allow everyone on the island to die for world peace then it is also considered wrong. This ultimately leaves us the question: who the fuck are we supposed to root for? The only character who had any real conviction and followed through with their beliefs was Floch and he died in such a shallow way along with his ideals and motives. Floch was literally the only character to maintain his ideals to the very end, right or wrong he didn't give up on what he believed in. This was shown specifically to make us, the viewers hate the Yaegerists but to me, Floch is shown to extremely brave and righteous as he fought for his country all the way through to the end without losing face or breaking character. A true fucking hero and a character I will respect and appreciate more so than any others present in the war. This whole scenario rubs me the wrong way specifically because the author wants us to see him and the Yaegerists as unlawful and evil, but doesn't realise that he also portrays Eren and his plan to genocide the whole world as unlawful and evil and on the other hand the whole world who want to destroy Eldians on the island as unlawful and evil too. In this final season the author wants to detail to us that there are literally no good people in this show whilst simultaneously forcing characters into each side of the war. The author has successfully destroyed almost every character that he spent time building simply for the fact of one faction being "right" and one faction being "wrong" yet portraying it as everyone is in the wrong. All of the politics of war are completely gone and it has been watered down to "the alliance exist so they must be righteous and fight the bad guys!" Many characters who were originally smart and carefully written became dumb as shit in this final season, especially Levi and Hange. If you look at how the author structured the plot then you can see he has no idea on how to create a 'good side' and a 'bad side' since he doesn't realise if you prevent one force from taking action, then another force will instead take action, this is shown when Hange talks about wiping the island off the map to prevent Eren from genociding the world, however the outsiders also want to genocide everyone on the island, and the Yaegerist cult also want to join the fun and do some genocide on the side. Cool. Legendary. Thankk youuuu.
Another huge issue is the morality of the characters, for example, Mikasa who had experienced the loss of her best friend Sasha at the hands of Gabi, became nicer to Gabi after the event had occurred. However, when the situation of Louise taking Mikasa's scarf happened, Mikasa shown signs of pure hatred and anger... It's just a really big what the fuck moment. The reason for this is simple, because Louise is a Yaegerist and for some odd reason the author wants us to hate them for having their beliefs even though a character like Louise has done nothing to warrant hatred, infact she even found solace and inspiration from Mikasa's actions back in Season one. It seems all fundamental happenings of war are disregarded as there are supposed to be the "GOOD" and "BAD" on each side, however in AOT everyone who isn't against Yaegerists are considered "enemies" which completely throws out the maturity of this faction and forces us to try and support the alliance for wanting to stop Eren whilst disregarding those who believe in him. Another issue with morality is when Annie woke up from the hyperbolic time chamber and starts working with the alliance to stop Eren which is all fine that she was forced into one side of the war until you realise that she is working alongside Levi, the man who had lost the woman who was going to be his future wife and countless soldiers to Annie who is a sadistic psychopath and yet Levi has no issue in the show, nor did he even speak to Annie about the past, it just all fell into place so nicely. Instead of even thinking about Annie or the past character development that built Levi, he is only shown to be obsessed with Zeke and getting his revenge, what the fuck? Another scene involving Annie that really pissed me off was the pie scene, it is contrived and portrays Annie and everyone else as good friends who are working towards a common goal ignoring everything that was ever built prior. Disgusting. How dare you try and make me see Annie as this poor person who had been through nothing but abuse when she has killed thousands; oh but I get it, you want to downplay her already built character into this sad tragic heroine who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Fuck off. Also to top it off, Zeke's attempt to put his euthanasia plan into action which I guess is softcore genocide; shown that every Eldian on the island was against him and every Marleyian sided with him which would of created a fantastic dynamic and would have been great story and character progression, until it is revealed that Zeke was actually a 'Hero' for attempting to stop Eren, simply because of the flashback of Grisha asking Zeke to stop Eren for whatever reason. The author I guess tried to negate his 'villain status' by forcing his newly established Anti-Hero stance down our throats overshadowing his previous conviction to destroy all Eldians on Paradis.
I don't really have to speak on the production because it's Studio MAPPA and they already know that their work is dog shit, obvious animation flaws and terrible, ugly, embarrassing and off-putting CG. There are also many inconsistencies in the key animation and the character designs used to look pretty cool but now they look disgusting and hideous, especially the facial expressions, some key examples being Yelena, Zekes titan form and when Eren was talking to Grisha from the past. Something I care about the most when watching something is the soundtrack, and the soundtrack has become so stale in AOT in which the four songs have been played in repetition to death. They even took soundtracks from previous seasons but remixed them shittily. It's an insult to the original composers and does not add anything to the pile of shit they decided would sound "good" when editing to fit the scenes, which by the way, do not fit at all. The cinematography is ugly and lowkey and I can't even tell if the director of this show took anything serious when working on this, it really just looks like thrown together slop and the same can be said for Part 1 as well. It is lifeless, unimaginative and you can easily tell that no effort was put into making this show look good at all.
This is probably the worst adaptation of AOT ever and this review may not appeal to the mass audience, but Studio MAPPA pissed on this series so hard I swear they only took it because they have the studio size and big enough CG department to work it all to fit in with the producer's 'tight' schedule. There is literally no love put into this work at least the previous studio, WIT had amazing craft also passion when working on it but man I knew this was coming, and people are acting like they are shocked that this series turned out so badly, but you and I already know that Studio MAPPA have the ability to turn gold into dirt when it comes to these easy cash grab series. Depressing. Really. A show that was once meant to give the thrill of fast paced action has become so stagnant, stale and slow that you can't tell if half of all 12 episodes are just bullshit extended fillers to fill in time slots or to make the story that much more 'Dramatic'. I can see how casual viewers would enjoy it though, this is just one of those series to get you started into watching anime but once you start exploring around you'll soon come to realise how dog shit this series really is, paraded by its big name and animation just to fool people into thinking that this is acceptable of a big named studio to produce. Not to mention, the writing is dreadful, the only source of inspirations and morale for the alliance is that one pie eating scene. Connie was about to kill Falco and Armin managed to stop it in time albeit at the expense of almost killing each other, then the next time they are shown is during that fucking pie scene? and that makes everything okay? this writing truly is horrendous. Also, they are going to fucking come out with a part 3??? how bad are you going to milk your fucking fans a 3 fucking part final omg are you serious???? fucking slice my pinky off and shove it down my oesophagus a part fucking 3? for a final? a fucking final? part 3? to a season specifically titled "final season?" what the FUCKKKKKKK are you out of your fucking mind?
I am extremely disappointed in the production of this show and the author for giving up on what could have been an epic and powerful story with some of the most gorgeous animation to date. But of course all good things come to an end and this series unfortunately crumbled, decayed and withered into a pitiful mess. This final season has been the worst in the franchise and finding out about a part three pretty much emphasises on this shows downfall. Granted I may not have been a hardcore fan of the series overall, I still enjoyed it when love and care was being put into it. This final season is an empty shell filled with bullshittery, dogshittery and dumbassery that destroyed what was once an energetic heart racing series. Keep riding on that undeserved hype train generated by the marvellous and talented WIT Studio, this series will never be what it was at its peak and will forever be a disappointment.

I watched this upon release and this is dog shit.
The characters are extremely unoriginal, generic, bland and copy+pasted from other shounens, but I cant blame it, this is just the natural cycle of many shounens that use rehashed and recycled personalities; its a continuous loop of shit characters with shit backstories with shit designs and shit overused tropes because thinking of original ideas is too hard for these goo goo gaa gaa cry babies in their executive CEO meeting. This show thinks quantity is more important than quality, I was once fooled from the start thinking this would be a slapstick comedy that didn't take itself ... Nov 26, 2021

My friend had recommended me to watch this anime as it is considered a masterpiece by many. Packed with a fantastic storyline with amazing characters and a deep philosophy, I've decided to give it a shot and after 25 episodes, I've got to say....
I am frankly very disappointed. My first biggest issue was the story, I thoroughly enjoyed the first 7 episodes when it was exploring the world, but after that, the anime started talking about rat tribes and colonies for the next 12 episodes. I was extremely bored and uninterested at this point - to the point where I was resting my hand on my ... |
