I absolutely loved the anime adaptation of Sankarea back in the early 2010s. Even to this day I feel like the plot of the series is very original and is a good twist on the average zombie show. As the anime had a typical "read the source material" ending to it, I decided to oblige and check out the manga.
For those who have watched the anime and wants to read the manga here's a couple of things as a heads up:
1. The pacing is incredibly different, I believe the entirety of the anime bar the last episode and the OVAs span across the first 2
...
or 3 volumes. Keep in mind there's 11 total volumes.
2. The story is changed with one of the main protagonist in the manga completely missing in the anime.
3. Without animation and music to back it up, I believe some scenes don't have as much impact as it did in the anime.
I think these 3 points are also sadly where most of my complaints about this manga come from. Although a month have passed in the story, it feels like it could have been a year or a week. Although the passage of time is so important, timeskips and super ultra long days are common leading to me losing track of how much time have passed since the beginning until the author suddenly adds in "...it's been 28 days...". I feel like the anime pacing was done significantly better letting the viewer time to take in and develop a sort of suspense with time passing by.
The story itself is not bad. A lot of characters were shoved to the side and I felt like the main characters didn't have as much emotional development that I felt like she needed through this romance manga. I also feel like the author might have jumped the gun with the beginning of the end. Past volume 6 or so you can distinctly feel the pace of the story getting picked up. I would consider 3 full arcs were used to lead up to the eventual great reveal. I don't think it was worth it and it could make readers lose track of the main protagonists due to the roundabout way of them going about things with twists and turns eveyrwhere. The ending is genrrally very disliked and I also agree with that. The author in the afternotes mentions the idea of making it a bittersweet ending, however I felt like they had the perfect setup and opportunity to make it a darker but more satisfying ending.
This is not a review of the anime but I felt a distinct lack of impact on some of the scenes. A lot of it would just be blurry to make it seem like something serious is happening. However in the anime, the transitions, sound effects, and the sound track contributed a lot to suspense and atmosphere making moments impactful.
Having incredibly high expectations didn't help. Also seeing the series go in a different direction half way through didn't help. However, the story of Sankarea is worth checking out no matter what.

I think this manga is ok. It has a time travel element that made things interesting. The characters were a bit of a miss outside of the protagonists. I get that they were maybe just there to continue the plot and make the MC develop, but it just felt like wasted potential even though this manga had a whole 6 volumes. Some of the characters were just thrown away with no real conclusion and I generally dislike that kind of ending.
I still think it's good if you're looking for a fluffy romance manga. Although this is not PURE FLUFF with some drama here and there
...
but a lot of it feels like filler slice of life fluff. Some scenes are very cute.
I wish it had a better ending to the series. I feel like a lot of the mystery were not explained and almost feel like it was axed even though the last volume or two didn't feel rushed pacing wise. Maybe it was axed and I just don't know?

Mywifesson made an amazing review on the context behind this manga and it made me appreciate it a whole lot more than right after I finished reading it.
The story talks about a young mangaka and his teacher, a former mangaka, and their collaboration to draw a good manga. The teacher is Watashiya Kaoru's self insert (the mangaka for Joou-sama no Eshi AND her hit piece Kodomo no Jikan). She breaks the fourth wall a lot by telling her struggles with Kodomo no Jikan and after it got published overseas. I think this context makes the manga incredibly fascinating, to see the point of view
...
of the author and her displease over how things were handled with her controversial series.
For the manga itself, 2 years can make a big difference but I feel like the quality difference between volume 2 and 3 is insane. The first 2 volumes felt slow and genuinely directionless. It felt like the storyline had nowhere to go neither did the characters.
However, starting from volume 3 it almost did a full 360. Shifting focus from the young high school protagonist to the teacher. The inclusion of their finished mangas and the development of the girls were great as well. I feel like volumes 1-2 and 3-4 felt almost like 2 different mangas. The quality shot up not only in art but in story, characters, comedy, and pacing. Sadly, I felt like those two first volumes were just so lackluster the last two didn't make up for it. I wish there was a couple more volumes of this after those last two.

Guilty Crown is a typical anime from the early 2010's. The apocalypse happens in the near future and people get powers in order to prevent it from happening while another group tries to end the world. The art is incredible, I love the OST, the action scenes are great, overall it's quite enjoyable.
Getting that out the way, I think the way people think about this anime is very interesting and strange. It seems as when the anime just aired other reviewers saw it as a "blatant cash grap", a "predictable plotline" and "unoriginal". However, as time had moved on, reviews in the 2020's see the
...
negatives as more with the pacing and the unnecessary plot twist of the second half.
Could it be that anime fans' priority has changed over time? The amount of isekais has made us dull to these supposedly "clichéd" plots? Maybe it's just that this kind of settings are not as popular today as they were before? It just fascinates me how different reviews in 2011 and 2012 have changed compared to now with it being 10 folds more positive.
I could also just be thinking about it too much. Maybe reviews of today are of the more casual audience that care less about specifics like those who watched while airing. For me, I also stand with those more recent reviews. The pacing is for sure my biggest negative about this show. You get thrown in a ton of characters at once that you don't really know about and then they just want to ease you in later. I did not find the plot or setting bland, it had an interesting twist in the 2nd half. That said, it felt like they went too far like with the first season of SAO.
MyAnimeList truly is a great archive of people's thoughts on anime while they were airing, when they just finished, and years after that. People's tastes change and general opinion on several shows change as well. Hindsight is 20/20 but we could also be changed by our ever evolving environment.

Oh man this is SO GOOD.
Musunde Hiraite is a manga about the love stories between a group of people that are all connected one way or another. Some are siblings, some are friends, some are childhood friends. All of them have found love at the same time but every character have their own struggles to own up to their feelings for each other.
I feel like the quality of this manga is so high with the art making scenes very impactful and heart warming. The characters were all well developed even those that are only side characters. It's interesting that the author decided to
...
do a volume 8 to conclude the stories of those side characters as well leaving no holes unplugged at the end of the manga.
This is a great read. It is super fluffy but at the same time provides a lot of depth through the experiences of some of the characters. I feel like the way the author shuffled around the different stories to make a continuous volume was done quite good as well. For example she would do 2 parts of 1 couple and then 1 of another but it all transitions flawlessly.
Some scenes are funny, some are cute, some are tense, but overall it is a quality romance story with a good ending. It definitely deserves a better anime than the 1 minute ONA per episode thing that's out there.

Veeeerrryyy wholesome slice of life isekai manga. It's short with only 3 volumes but I think the author was able to develop the characters well enough for one or two of them to be at least somewhat memorable. The art is also super good, but the quality of recent manga has been great all around so maybe I just can't tell.
Of course there are some isekai tropes that are overused and bland, but I think the experience is better than the MAL score it got.
It's wholesome, cute, and easy to read. Nice pickup if you don't want to commit to something longer.

Genuinely don't think this is the worst thing ever. The art is awesome and the tension they try to create is really there.
Fun thriller read for a 4 volume manga, the main yandere was a well written and developed character imo. Definitely not the highest quality writing, lots of overused tropes and predictable plot points and it felt slightly rushed with not a very defined ending.
Really my expectations were super low seeing this 5.8 average here but they were surprisingly blown away. It's definitely mid but not dogshit.
So yea pretty good yandere manga, short read kinda generic, good scenes. 👍

Great harem romcom, some funny but slightly repetitive gags and a lot of parody things from japanese culture and otaku culture. Decent character development and interesting setting that hooks you to find out what happens next.
Now, what the fuck. This manga got AXED 15 VOLUMES IN?????????? THE LIGHT NOVEL FOR THE LAST FEW VOLUMES ARE NOT TRANSLATED. There literally WASN'T an ending to this series in the manga. Absolutely nothing happened. They just forced the arc to end and didn't develop on sooooooooo many things they introduced in earlier volumes.
Only way to find out the true ending of the series is to read summaries
...
written by bloggers online of volume 11 of the light novel (which they read in japanese). I've read many mangas that got axed before but this one is crazy to me. 15 volumes in, an anime adaptation and soo much left in the tank.
The process of reading it was good but now I just feel empty, I'm never gonna witness the ending of this series other than the 4 paragraph summary I read. Absolutely disappointed.

I really like unique concepts in anime and this being an original show not based on another source really helped it imo.
The show felt really complete and played within the 13 episode confine of usual animes very well. Things didn't feel rushed and a lot of the lore was explained. I think the character development was done well for the main characters but it is true that almost nobody else was developed. I think with the number of interesting scenarios and mysteries that the show presented in the short amount of episodes, it is done very well. Somehow character development is something that reviewers
...
can't understand, if done well an anime could be good with fewer characters developed. I don't think this anime would have been better if I knew all the backstories of all of the supporting characters, just knowing the MCs makes it less bloated and focus more on the situation at hand.
I also think the sound design in this anime really peaked my attention. Intense moments are made more intense and the amount of OSTs used throughout is pretty impressive.
Overall, a unique experience with thrilling moments, mystery, sci-fi, and gore is why I think this anime is great.

WOW this was better than I expected after having read the synopsis. A big aspect to romcoms that a lot of people dislike is when the mc takes too long, hesitates or just pussies out of situations that would usually progress the romance. I felt like in this manga the mc is NOT a pussy at all but when he messes up you can really understand him and the justification is usually satisfying.
The "side" characters where not annoying and actually helpful to the development of the main plot while being unique on their own. Some of their actions are still kinda cliché and expected
...
but overall I think they fulfill their job pretty well.
The part I liked a lot about this manga was the way chapters are structured. Since it's usually just 4 panels per page, the comedic creativity makes it really great in many cases. The author is also able to really fit a lot of detail and content into each page and chapter.
In the end, I feel like this manga covered soooooooooo much in the span of 8 volumes. The ending was super satisfying and fluffy, didn't feel rushed at all. The characters were fun but got serious when it needed to be.
Loved it
