eh
first half was incredibly fast paced and a bit unpleasant to sit through, and if i wasnt aware of the series at all, i wouldve dropped it. 2nd half was very good, but honestly watching this all made me wish that it was a tv series instead of a movie. The buildup to that final fight with Chaos would've been incredible.
All in all, as a long time sailor moon fan, the journey of watching the Crystal reboot since 2014 has been a very bumpy ride. I guess i'm glad the manga finally got an adaptation, but I wish Toei could've treated it with more care
...
and dignity than it actually got.
If you're a long time fan, i'd recommend watching, but if you're new to the sailor moon franchise you'll be incredibly lost and you'll probably have an easier time getting into it by just reading the manga (if you want all the dark goodness without a weirdly done animation adaptation) or diving into the 90s anime and getting a fun campy experience.

Loved the first half like most people, and for what it was the ending felt satisfying enough.
Asa/Yoru is a cool character and I like her, but part 2 just feels directionless..like it doesn't know what it wants to be. Also most of the characters just feel like copy paste personalities with different bodies. I cant tell one apart from the other if you were to take their physical forms away unlike the cast of part 1 where everyone felt distinct. I just have a disinterest in most of the characters now so it pulls me out from investing in the story.
Realized I was just reading
...
it up to this point because "I already got this far, I may as well finish it". I don't want to treat media I indulge in with a sunk cost fallacy mindset. Maybe i'll come back if the author finally figures out what he wants these characters to do, but for now im out.

A disappointment, really. As a big death note fan I was expecting a lot more from the duo that brought me a series that pretty much defined my childhood and inspired me into going into psychology as my career field. Watching this with my friends that also grew up with death note was pretty much just a weekly grind of "will it finally get good this week?" kind of thing. The few characters that were actually kind of interesting or couldve set up an interesting premise, like Metropoliman and Mukaido were killed off, or the characters that couldve added some freakin life to this show,
...
like Yuri, were underutilized. Just wasted potential really. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone and I think this series solidified in my mind that Death note was Ohba's lightning in a bottle and he probably cannot capture something like that ever again.

I gotta be honest, i'm rating this like how I would rate it if I were a 8 year old child again. I'm absolutely in love with the Pokemon game series (though tbh i'm more of a fan of the DS era games given I grew up with that). My first games being Diamond and Pearl, and my favorites being Black/White/Black2/White2.
I've grown up with this series and it inspired me to learn how to read in Japanese so I could play the games before they released in America (This was before the worldwide release schedule for the modern Pokemon games started. We'd have to
...
wait a year to get the games localized.), so my nostalgia goggles are blinding me when it comes to this franchise, and I think it'll almost be impossible for me to rate it objectively, but i'll try.. Also keep in mind i've only watched this anime with the 4kids dub like a majority of Westerners have.
Story= If you know the plot of your average mainstream Pokemon game, then this anime is really no different from them aside from taking creative liberties. Think of it like watching a slice of life/comedy almost.
Art= I will always love the 90's style feel to this anime, and I prefer it to the modern artstyles.
Sound= I still listen to the original anime soundtrack from time to time. It's amazing getting to hear music from your favorite game series become something almost magical to hear. The anime renditions of the games music is still top tier even to today.
Character= oh boy.. well I can only go by the 4kids dub, but I feel the actors are what made the characters feel alive. Ash's current persona feels almost too sterile, and it's strange to hear him have emotions other than being nice and friendly. But Veronica Taylor's Ash had a sass to him that was/and still is entertaining to watch. He felt like any other kid that you'd meet on the street. Brock,Misty, Jessie, and James etc. were very fun characters to watch back then as well, and honestly it may be one of the rare moments where a 4kids dub outshines another dub in terms of voice cast, character chemistry, music selection, script writing, etc.
Enjoyment= Now i'm a bit too old for the anime, but I enjoyed the anime very much when I was a child and whenever I have kids, i'm planning on showing the older anime to them as well. This anime is pretty much perfect for younger kids to stretch their imagination and creativity.
Overall this anime is a solid 7 if i'm rating it objectively. It definitely opened up the fact that anime/cartoons based off of video games can succeed in the west and the world in general and can become a sort of cash cow in itself, unlike the Super Mario brothers or Zelda cartoons. I'm sure if the games were to suddenly stop being made, the anime would still be popular. (I remember actually not even knowing Pokemon was a video game until 2007, I just really enjoyed watching the cartoon after school. That's how powerful the show was to little kids.)
Maybe I would recommend this series dubbed to people that have never grown up with it, but please don't even think to try to binge watch it. Pokemon is best enjoyed sporadically because the formula is notoriously repetitiveeeeee.

My first review.
Honestly I wasn't expecting much to begin with, other than beautiful artwork (which this show delivered on). I was hoping this would be as engaging as My dress up darling with relatable characters with heart and personality/motivs to them. (and no I didn't just enjoy that anime for the fanservice, the fanservice was actually the only part of that anime I disliked and actively zoned out during)
I've never watched such a by the numbers anime before this one, and i've seen a lot of predictable stuff..Every scene I can predict what will happen. Izumi gets into a wacky situation in which Shikimori will
...
save him from, then they'll both blush at each other and giggle. It's just boring. I have no reason to care about this relationship aside from just Shikimori herself because while Izumi obviously isn't an offensive character or anything by any means, there's no reason for me to care about him. I know people are going to say, he is just acting like a normal person but sorry, it's incredibly boring to watch an anime about normal everyday people. If I wanted to do that I would just go people watching.
Honestly best way to describe this anime is background noise. I tab out every time I watch it because of how bored I get. If people enjoy this, I understand. Different strokes for different folks.
I'd only recommend this to the anime fans that enjoy watching nothing but generic looking anime girls blushing all day.
