Both start with spunky elementary kids that don't really have their own dream for the future. That all changes when they meet another kid that excels at some subject (piano in Piano no Mori; Karuta in Chihayafuru) which inspires the main character to adopt this subject and get a dream. Both start when the kids are in elementary and skip to when they are in high school. Chihayafuru is more of a romance and its based on a girl... Piano no Mori on the other hand has an EXTREMELY unique art style (kinda in a bad way) and involves little romance.

Both of these series have this stupid, ridiculous humor that doesn't really make any sense and normally you'd hate but for some strange reason you find yourself laughing your butt off. Seriously. Other than that, they both deal with high schools and strong female leads.

I've gotten to the point that I realize EVERY SINGLE ROMANCE IS SOMEHOW LIKE FRUITS BASKET. Maybe it's because Fruits Basket has so many characters living different lives? Anyway Tears of a Lamb is a very emotional and heart-warming story just like Fruits Basket. Both deal with complicated family lives, heart-breaking romance, and over coming the difficulties in life. Both have a hint of comedy and if you like one you'll probably like the other.

okay, i found the two main girls to be similar. both of them are girls that aren't going to cry in every chapter and in general don't need to depend on their guy for everything. both of the girls are strong and depend on themselves to achieve their goals. but don't worry, the guy still saves them when it's important :) other than that, they're both romances?

The girl leads are similar. They are important to everyone around them, have family problems, begin by living on their own, and everyone seems to be in love with them. The three main characters are also in a love triangle. Fruits basket is way more dark and sad compared to Penguin Revolution. but, both are very good, heartwarming stories.
