Ah, Pokemon. Like One Piece, the Pokemon anime will probably never end. In fact, it will probably outlast it, as it doesn't rely on a single author to run the plot.
But the Pokemon anime doesn't always follow Ash. Recently, there's been a notable influx of Pokemon anime that don't follow Ash, but rather, adapt the games. I haven't seen these personally, but I imagine they are really good. They allow for a defined beginning, middle, and end, and when you have a story all planned out, that means that you DON'T have to rely on a weekly animation scedule.
But I'm getting ahead of myself. You
...
want to hear why it's good, not how it could be good, right?
Story: 5/10.
The story here is basic. It follows the first 2 games, Red and Blue, which couldn't exactly tell the stories of JRPGs of today with the primative technology of the Game Boy. However, certain things are changed. I won't spoil what; Just remember some things are changed.
The pacing WAY too fast. Even though the game's light on story and content, Red and Blue cannot be condensed to a 4 episode special. As a result, a lot of fights are skipped, and ones that aren't are generally condensed so much that the emotional impact is lowered drastically. It's really a big problem in the second half though, the first half handles things decently. But the second half is where some of the most important things happen, so it really hurts. Also, the story ends on a semi-cliffhanger. It looks like there was supposed to be a 5th episode but the animation team just said "no" and left it at that.
Art: 9/10.
The battles are animated BEAUTIFULLY. The fights are super exagurrated and probably reflect how a kid in the 90s would have seen the battles unfold. I'm personally not a fan of the art style but I can see why someone would like it. Expressions are great.
Sound: 10/10.
Remixed old themes. And they're remixed amazingly.
Character: 7/10.
Red feels like an actual character for once! Amazing! Blue feels cocky and arrogent, and you see how it is reflected in adapted and original scenes. Unfortunately, the superfast pacing means that one character's arc gets ruined. I won't say who, but it is.
Enjoyment: 8/10.
I really enjoyed this. It's super hype seeing some things unfold, when you know what's gonna happen but seeing it in the eyes of a newbie.
Overall: 7/10.
Did you play Red and Blue before? Then watch this! Have you not? Watch a glitchless speedrun of it, then watch this! It's good, and only 4 episodes means that it's definitely worth your time.

Take Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. Got it? Now give it the animation quality and animation style of Into-The-Spider-Verse. I've compared those 2 masterpieces to this, you already know you're in for a ride. Now give it neon colors, put it in a movie format: Congrats, you've got Promare.
The story isn't much to take in. Racism is the main theme and although I'd say it's executed rather well, there are plotholes.
In terms of art: I love it. I'm not even talking about the art style (sans colors), I find the style to be... alright. Certain parts remind me of Sonic The Hedgehog for some reason. Even

good to some extent, but where it really shines is in the animation and colors. You know how in the big fights in some anime, the budget throws it's hands in the air and goes all out? Imagine that but for 2 hours straight. Combine that with popping neon colors, and you end up with perfection in animation form.
The soundtrack is incredible but forgettable, I remember there being lots of vocal tracks which left my mouth gaping but I already forgot them all. VAs are good.
For characters, fans of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann will feel right at home. Kamina, Yoko, Viral, Lordgenome (Maaaaybe Rossiu?), and genderbent Attenborough are also here for the ride. They aren't exact copies, but they replicate the traits decently well, mostly in the first half. In fact, there's one line that I'm sure TTGL fans will love (Or maybe my memory is just poopy and nobody said that in TTGL IDK) Aside from that, main cast is good, supporting cast is good, everyone is good.
Needless to say... Yeah I enjoyed it. Not much to say here. See the animation section.
Overall, I've got to give it a 9 just because even though I loved it, it simply didn't have enough fights in the first half to warrent a 10. Everything else is great though! You should totally give this a watch.

I've been watching anime for about 2 years, but only seriously for about a half a year, and my opinions have never been at all extreme. Even anime I drop I have to give at least a 6, because I can appreciate what it does well. On the other hand, I have not once given an anime any more than a 9. I can always see at least some minor issues. One Punch Man? Predictable. Jojo? Some parts are better than others, and early animation is... passable. One Piece? Too much filler intergrated into the regular episodes. No matter what, even the smallest issues always
...
kept these anime from being a 10/10.
Gurren Laggan breaks that rule.
STORY: 9/10. Contrary to the paragraph + sentence that I just said, Gurren Laggan has one flaw - The pacing. No, this show doesn't have bad pacing: It can just be a bit quick at times, and sometimes things happen off screen. I am aware the Crunchyroll version (The one I watched) has censored a few things, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt and assume that at least some of these problems are due to censorship. Aside from that, perfect. Everything goes along smoothly with tons of hype. Like, a whole lot. I'm only on episode 7, but I already feel like I'm preparing for the final battle. I won't spoil anything.
ART: 10/10. Holy crap. Anime originals are hard to do in the first place animation wise, particularly due to a lack of source material, but this makes it look effortless. It's one of the few anime I've seen that actually uses forced perspective (Making the close parts super close and the far parts super far), and the animation in normal episodes is nigh-opening quality! Character designs are incredible and the mech designs would look hilarious if done by any other studio, but these guys make them look perfect.
SOUND: 10/10. Voice actors that make you understand the characters just by hearing them? Check. Satisfying attacks? Check. An awesome OP and unique ED? Check. An OST that may just be the best ever? Check. All of these make Gurren Lagann super fun to hear and watch.
CHARACTER: 10/10. I'm not even going to try to give you examples so it can stay as spoiler free as possible, I just want to say there was a gay character who was actually executed well, and this was 2007.
ENJOYMENT: 10/10. I've already said how the fight scenes are perfectly animated, but they're surprisingly simple. They generally are saved for the second half of the episode. That being said, unlike a certain other anime with simple fights that executed it poorly *cough* My Hero Academia *cough* this show doesn't act like they're big, and lets them be as short as they need to be. And in the rare instances where they are big, they do something big. Add a new character, show off a new power, etc. In terms of humor, well, let me just say the majority is either perverted humor (which inside me gives me some weird combination of funny and horny) or just stupid shit.
OVERALL: 10/10

Welp, ready to stir up some controversy. Black Clover is an amazing anime if you get past the mediocre beginning. For the first few arcs, they focused on one character per arc, I'm assuming to make them more memorable? But with characters as amazing as these ones, they're memorable enough to not need an arc all to themselves. That being said, after that, things start to pick up. LIGHT SPOILERS FOR THE REST OF THE PARAGRAPH. The terrorist group, The Eye of Midnight Sun is introduced, and at that point the series ramps it up. Anybody who has watched the show would know what comes
...
next, and they'll agree with me when I say it gets even better.
The art style is nice, albeit a bit generic, but what's kind of frustrating is the animation. At times, the animation is great, and a few times it's even been outstanding. However, there are many times that there's horrible animation, and it's REALLY noticeable. However, those times are few and far between.
The characters are amazing. They don't go through too much development, but the amount they do go through is nice. And their personalities, whilst a bit one-dimensional, are really memorable, and fit into serious and silly moments greatly.
Overall, I highly recommend watching Black Clover, as long as you can get past the first 20 episodes or so.
