These anime feature friendly, sentimental, and cute main characters in futuristic settings. There are a lot of shots of scenery in each, and the main characters both aim to make nice memories and see the beauty in life. The main similarity between these shows is the calm, nostalgic, and almost melancholic feel.

...then you might like Hoshi wo Ou Kodomo add

I hear that Makoto Shinkai's favorite anime is Castle in the Sky, and it really shows in this film. Both movies deal with very similar themes as we see humans wanting to uncover some mysterious world. There's also a touch of romance with the lead characters. Quite similar movies, and both are definitely worth checking out.

If you liked K-On! add

...then you might like Aiura add

Neither has much of a plot, but they feature cute girls just doing cute things. The main difference is that K-On! is two seasons and a movie, whereas Aiura is just twelve 4-minute shorts. Both are genuinely enjoyable and well worth the watch if you just want something lighthearted and adorable.

Both of these films involve a girl that the male protagonist takes an interest in. But the girl is being used by the villains, and the protagonist fights to try and win the girl and also fulfill his personal dreams. With that said, the major differences are that Laputa: Castle in the Sky is more innocent, since the main characters are younger. Lupin is a bit more fun to watch because of his antics, while Laputa strikes me as a bit more serious at times.
