A collection of absurdly overpowered individuals with conflicting interests, shifting alliances, and unclear motives compete for an even more unclear objective. Interesting characters and good action, and just enough violence to be fun rather than grim. Worth a watch for fans of a battle-royale style conflict.

While the plot of these anime could not be more different they ultimately share a central and integral similarity: their humane and sympathetic portrayal of transness in a medium that usually handles such subject matter horribly. While Wandering Son is quiet, smart and introspective and Ramens is loud, dumb, and thoughtless, they both portray people who are often discarded or disparaged as real people who are worthy of love and respect. It does not follow that if you like one you will like the other, but if humanizing portrayals of trans people in anime is something you are interested in than both contain this all too rare element that make them something special.

Both shows start off as typical and superficially juvenile Mahou Shoujo shows, but from the beginning there is an element of mystery and menace that lurks in the background. Both are a bit older, but still look good despite slightly dated art styles. Both have strongly realized characters that have clear strengths and weaknesses. Both series are manipulated behind the scenes by a seemingly ambivalent force that eventually proves to be more malevolent that initial impressions suggest.

While not anything alike in plot, both shows feature mystical puppetry as their main gimmick. They both have highly stylized characters, both feature suspense, mystery, and violence, and both will likely not get the attention they deserve. They're also both an interesting mix of silly and violent, which is a fun combination.

Both shows involve children being put in extremely difficult situations in an attempt to discover how their world truly works. Both juxtapose an atmosphere of bucolic calmness with upsetting subject matter and violence. Both give us strongly drawn characters with clear motives, weaknesses, strengths, and relationships. Both are a strange, dark take on fantasy. Both are spectacular.

These shows both contain modern day characters who link with certain historical figures or time periods and then weaponize them. They are both similarly cavalier about the accuracy of the history in question. They are both super stupid, but in kind of a fun way.

Both series feature a diverse cast of weirdos killing each other in bizarre and entertaining ways. Neither shies away from graphic violence or sexual content. Both make en effort to develop characters, even characters that don't have much of an impact on the overall plot. The tone of the two shows is also similar in that they are dark without being too heavy or slowly paced. They are a cool spectacle that you don't have to think too hard about, and are a good watch for anybody who just wants to watch some odd people kick lots of ass.

Both Vatican Kiseki Chousakan and Ghost Hunt share an atmosphere of highly stylized mystery. There is a sense that the protagonists are trying to rationally examine a supposedly supernatural phenomena through the lenses of Science and History. There are situations that are genuinely horrifying, but there are also moments of extremely campy graphic violence or splatter effects. Fans of one would likely thoroughly enjoy the other.
