Angel's Egg is a surrealist fantasy. That in and of itself should tell you whether you will enjoy this anime or not. It eschews any form of easily-discernible or decipherable plot or character development, and instead has an intricately detailed and rich yet barely-explained setting. You will be filling in a lot of holes on your own, as far as the story and characters go.
Now, if you enjoy that sort of thing - exercising your mind and imagination to bridge gaps that the movie itself doesn't explicitly fill - you will enjoy this movie. The character designs and setting are nothing less than breathtaking,
...
and what snippets of character and plot we ARE given are tantalizing and fascinating. There's so much more going on in this movie than is revealed at the surface, but you'll have to dig for it on your own, and Mamoru Oshii - the director - doesn't throw out much for you to hold onto while you're at it.
All in all, Angel's Egg is a movie that's decadent yet skeletal at the same time. Again, how much you'll enjoy this movie depends entirely on how invested you are in visuals, worldbuilding, and being challenged as a viewer, as opposed to having things neatly and easily laid out for you.
