Both series have a serious haunting mood coming from the hunter and the hunted setting. Kakurenbo's monsters also resemble some of the ones in Gantz. Give the kids in Kakurenbo guns and add some gore and you basically got the same thing.

Both have a world that is struggling to survive after a catastrophic war. Past technology is pursued and preserved by the goverments to wage even more war. History has been mixed with myths. Still some believe in the good in people and not in violence.

Both of the series contain many buxom girls having bloody fights with undead monster while their clothing is getting ripped apart.

I could describe Pumpkin Scissors as a pre-cybernetic version of Ghost in the Shell. Both tell a story of a special team which investigates conspiracies and wrong-doings of the military and the goverment and add some social commentary to the mix. The compositions of the teams are also quite similar. Pumpkin Scissors has somewhat more relaxed and silly feeling (more comedy) to it than GitS, so it can serve as a lighter option to it.
