EINAR’S BACKSTORY
Einar backstory wasn’t covered so much in the manga and I appreciated so much them to add these pearl to the continuation of this masterpiece. bare with me, this next recap is the soul of the entire show!
We start up with Einar, his family (mother and sister) and the rest of the villagers trying to rebuild their town from a past attack that occurred and happened to have taken Einar’s father’s life, on the process they get raided one more time and while Einar and his family are running away, his mother gets caught and killed by the aggressors, she
...
tells them to leave and survive for their sake and keep their family alive, his sister filled with anger, decides to fight back and in the process she also gets caught and killed by the same vikings, Einar infuriated hangs on to the words that her mother spoke and keeps believing that surviving will fulfill their desires… Broken and sold as a slave, his story starts up after meting Thorfinn on a farm that he had been sold to.
Key notes: Einar even after suffering so much over the last few years, is able to maintain a sense of vision that things can get better. - this will have a-lot of impact on the story development.
Einar’s hope gets even more restored upon meeting his master “KETIL”, that offers him freedom if they (Einar and Thorfinn) are able to clear a part of his forest and make a sustainable farm for the future to come, setting the stage to what the arc calls…
THE FARMLAND ARC
After getting his hands to work and trying to chop off trees, we see Thorfinn and Einar getting to know each other… which makes us see what Thorfinn has been doing since the last time we saw him when Askeladd died.
They sleep on a barn and there every night Einar wakes up to a Thorfinn filled with nightmares from his past life haunting him, one night, after Thorfinn reveals to Einar that he used to be a viking that used to kill people exactly like the ones that stole his lands and killed his family, on that night instead of waking Thorfinn, Einar chokes Thorfinn from app the anger and year that he had to support these sames devils take away everything he had, he doesnt go all the way and stop, and wales him up and Thorfinn after waking up asks him why does he always wakes him up when he s having nightmares… Einar full of rage, remembers a time where Thorfinn tells him that nothing good has ever happened to him in his life, and says that they re only alive because someone decided to not kill them despite all that they have been through.
And this is where the whole premises of the entire show starts, these few scenes shape every episode following and they always come back to this same point, that despite everything that has happened, either losing people they cared about or doing such horrible things, there is still redemption and hope waiting for them as they walk to a road that is continuously filled with pain and suffer
I’ve rewatched these few episodes and without a doubt in my mind these were the true gems of the entire show. Because while you can read the manga and understand the story well… these recreated scenes and the emotions they give out are like nothing you can find while reading the same chapters, I was truly filled with emotions after watching it
10/10 everything
Every piece of the anime worked incredibly well with the story telling… music, the art, pacing, characters e development.
I also wish to not have enemies.
