1. Both series have aliens and are sci-fi-ish 2. Series have similar senses of humor 3. Both series have found family and ensemble casts of goofy characters -Gintama is also referenced in Dandadan (Seiko's eye mask) Gintama is less action focused and episodic compared to Dandadan. Gintama has both comedy and "serious" arcs while Dandadan is more fast paced. If you enjoyed the comedy parts of Dandadan then I highly recommend Gintama!
