They both feature two sisters who are in love with their younger brother. One of them teases him and forces the brother into a relationship, even though he's more obsessed with the sweeter and kinder sister. Swing Out Sisters is much more light-hearted, while Evergreen is darker and more realistic. Evergreen has a more realistic art style as well, and has some netorare elements. While both start with extremely similar concepts, they branch out into two different responses to the situation.
