The anime started almost perfectly to me. It was interesting, exciting, the sound was great, the story seemed kind of cliche but had captured my attention.
I couldn't stop watching. I kept moving on to the next episode to the next. I thoroughly enjoyed the beginning. The characters were mysterious and made me want to learn more about them. The writers give us fragments of a story that we are to make of for each character in considering their motivations. The two main characters void of emotion or memories are simply and utterly captivating.
For the first half (ish) of the anime I would give
...
it a 9/10 or even a 10/10.
As for the second half. This is when things get hard to stomach. Indeed, I couldn't stop watching the show, but I felt angrier and angrier watching characters do things that had absolutely no reason or motive behind them. The characters become dull, and everything from then on seems contrived to advance the "plot".
Too many characters are introduced. Not enough screen time. Ridiculous, meaningless actions from them used to conveniently move on with the story.
The story is about finding one's identity (such as with many other works of any age) and in a sense, the writers address that fact. I have no qualms with the ending, but the way the anime reached it was disappointing. It is so hard to not write spoilers for there are so many instances where these flaws just completely ruined the ending of the show. They become more significant than any of the advancements in plot or events in the story line as a whole.
If you are unlike me, and you can just accept things as they are without questioning the ridiculousness of the character's actions you may indeed enjoy the show more. The ending left a sour taste in my mouth and brings me back to the disappointment I obtain from watching shows that are made to fit the convenience of the writers.
Last half score: 6/10
These scores so far are for story, character, and enjoyment only.
Art: sometimes the images would look sloppy but overall good job 9/10.
Sound: Loved the first opening. Second one was eh. Overused battle soundtracks and character theme songs. Good OST I guess, but when used too often becomes less impactful and slightly annoying. 8/10
Overall: 7.5/10
I would recommend this show, with reluctance. It would be good for those who are looking for enjoyment, but consider my warning: expect to be disappointed with the ending of this show that shows so much potential with the beginning.
