It's been a while since I have watched any type of anime. I'd have to say it's been probably a year and I've been interested in this one for a while now after seeing a few edits. I haven't even finished it but it's been a week since I started and this show literally has a chokehold on me. I cannot stop watching it's so good. All of the characters are so well written and have immense depth, they're all interesting and I enjoy watching different relationships progress throughout and the dynamics between the characters, even if I personally don't agree or like some of

them. What I particularly like seeing though is that nobody's perfect. Every character has flaws. Some characters I like do absolutely nasty things that make me want to scream and punch them through a wall. But that's part of what makes Nana great, it isn't afraid to tackle these topics, show the viewer just how cruel reality can be, and truly grapple with every one of your emotions. It's just so much more realistic than a lot of shoujo anime I have seen, it doesn't really use common stereotypes like the "dere" character archetypes, or any tropes for that matter. Emotionally, I find that Nana really gets to you and I found myself on the verge of tears a lot, physically feeling my heart sinking. Despite being a long anime (47 episodes), I've found that the pacing is actually pretty quick and it is pretty binge-able with the exception of some recap episodes. Some of the episodes end on a cliffhanger so it's hard to resist watching the next episode. I also want to praise the music in this, both the OP and ED which are sung by fictional bands Trapnest and Black Stones are very catchy and I have listened to them outside of just watching the anime. Starless Night by Reira (Olivia Lufkin) is my favorite and it is a perfect ending song. The OST is also very solid, and it's definitely music I will play when I am studying, except I may get a little too emotional while listening to them. With all of this said, I can't recommend Nana enough if you are a shoujo or drama fan. It has great characters, a powerful story, and good music. Be warned though, there will be tears.
