I don’t bother writing many reviews because unless the title is obscure everything that needs to be said about an anime will already have been done so in all the previous reviews.
I guess you could that I’m writing about Sankarea in order to remind the Future Me not to ever rewatch this or view a second season of this show if it ever happens. I won’t really go into the elements where the plot is lacking. You can see all that by skimming some of the other reviews. No, my main argument in this review to keep you away from this review is that
...
the main male character, Furiya, is drawn with a hair style that looks like cat ears, and it looks pretty fucking hideous. In the show, he’s basically an ungrateful and overall useless piece of shit with no redeemable qualities but to compound that by looking as stupid as he does is just too much.
The plot goes absolutely nowhere, and the character development is also pretty much non existent. The zombie girl doesn’t experience the freedom of being out of her father’s grasp because she’s now chained by having to preserve her body from decay and the loner, zombie obsessed freak boy acts like a douche to the zombie girl who actually likes him for some reason. Some might say the father of the zombie or cousin might important characters but in reality after the first episode no one else matters. I’m an editor, so I know what I’m talking about.

Don't waste your time watching this. Those of you who do no drop shows once you start them will regret going through 12 episodes of this. This show might be ok for people who don't usually watch anime because the show is very cliched and heavy handed with no subtlety.
The plot with regard to why these characters have been assembled is actually not so bad. It's a collection of mostly high school kids given powers to protect Earth/mankind from a kind of pixelated aliens. Not original but not offensive either, somewhat believable.
The major problem has to do with the stupid characters. First, the protagonist
...
is air-headed and maniacally cheerful. I'm not kidding you; she does that anime thing where they pause for a moment, tilt their head, close their eyes, and smile real big to win your heart every other scene it seems like. It's disgusting. By the second episode after receiving her power, instead of capturing/defeating the enemy like she was instructed, she smiles and laughs and uses the power of friendship to make things better. Does it work? Of course it does, which implies that the method of force that the group has been using might have been wrong. Go put on your seatbelts and wait to watch the main character preach (so many monologues) and display the power of friendship and crazy cheerfulness. It sounded so fun that I had to drop this shit cause everything is so predictable. If she were a real person, she is definitely someone who needs to receive several bitchslaps to get her back down to Earth.
Other problems include the horrendous soundtrack that plays whenever the characters transform into power rangers. The protagonist and her senpai (these 2 you see the most) mouths also are drawn to open really wide so when they talk it looks like they are shouting. Anime vets will know what I mean.

Wow, what a dreadful series. I was expecting so much more here based on the score of this series, what a disappointment and a huge waste of my time. Some very very minor spoilers to give you an idea about the anime without giving away anything important to the unfolding of the story.
This anime came out in 2002. It looks like it was produced in 1992. The animation is disgustingly bad. The second reason the year is important is because this is a series based on technology. Imagine the movie, "I, Robots" with Will Smith. The robots are kind of like that except they look
...
like young girls and their jobs in society is to provide sex and dates to men. The futuristic technology imagined by the author is a total joke. Imagine a 100 pound walking computer has to stop everything that they do for a google search. Emails are like the giant technology thing at that time. Basically really primitive stuff. Anyone under 30 will not understand this at all. It's embarrassing.
I won't go off on too many tangents on why this is such a crap anime. I'll mostly just describe the protagonist, Hideki, because he takes up about 95% of the screen time in the series. First of all, he is really stupid. I'm guessing his IQ is in the 60-80 range. He's not a funny stupid; he's a complete moron that also talks to himself in front of others loudly without realizing it. He grew up on a farm with hopes of going to Tokyo to go to college. He got rejected. He goes to Tokyo anyway with no savings and no job to go to a prep school to get into college. Mind you, it's a prep school for very stupid people as it is. Throughout the series he ends up failing all his subjects in the prep school.
He's also a sexual assailant and possible pedophile and just has some bad morals. He sexually assaults the robot that looks like a really cute 13 year old girl, and basically traumatizes this robot. He pimps out this robot to be a stripper because he doesn't have any money or savings to pay for food or his rent. He also nearly rapes his boss's young high school daughter and attempts to prey upon the young girl by taking her out on multiple dates. He also attempts to seduce his prep school teacher. He also steals electricity from his landlord to charge the robot. None of the things that I mentioned above are anything that affects the story so don't be concerned about spoilers. Those are basically examples of the main character.
So many other stupid things about this anime, but don't want to make this any longer than necessary. In short, don't watch it. Or at least definitely pirate it rather than purchase it.

This show is really bad. Why it has so many favorites is so far a mystery. I would suggest not even starting it. Don't suffer through it. I made it through 11 episodes, but I was ready to drop this garbage after 8. The show is obviously geared towards the 11 and under crowd. The characters are pretty stupid, and the writing was done by amateurs. The humor if you could call it that is lame even to 11 year olds. It's also a villain of the week format type of show. I read some reviews from people who completed the series, and apparently it
...
never gets good and nothing ever really happens. If you like this, you're probably dumb or under 11.

This was an anime that I was really hoping to like. I never heard of it, so I was surprised that it is one of the most popular and watched anime series out there. Unfortunately, I had to drop this series after 6 episodes (at a point where many users were having orgasms because "shit just got real!!) because it is straight up retarded. I warn don't bother this anime; it's just so stupid.
I am just shocked that this anime is so popular. The story is really bad. The premise of fighting death in the afterlife sounds pretty promising, but the progression of the plot,
...
and rules of the world makes very little sense. Be aware, that it takes until episode 5 for things to become "good" according to the episode discussions. The comedic relief is also really forced. It's just not funny.
The characters are really bad too. First of all, there are way too many characters for a 13 episode anime. The story should have kept the amount to about 1/3 of what they have. The character development partly because of the time constraint is very minimal. Very few of them are likable. All the characters are basically in a purgatory, a place between life and death. Each episode, one of them gives their backstory on how they died, and it's so cheesy because they are portrayed in such a sympathetic light, and they did nothing wrong, and they were a victim of circumstance. Anyway, the show tries way too hard to pull at our heartstrings.
Also, you have to suffer through concert scenes with lame music in pretty much every episode. The reason behind I'm not quite sure. I think it's because the band is providing a distraction, and they're stealing the audience's lunch money by blowing giant fans in the room? As stupid as that sounds, I think that's an accurate summary.
Anyway, I'm a patient guy. For instance, I gave Bleach 190 episodes to try and not suck, and they couldn't do it. I couldn't stand more than 6 episodes of Angel Beats. Naruto filler would be more entertaining.
