I noticed that The Dragon Next Door had no reviews so I'm writing the first one. I'm not about to wax rhapsodic but I do feel like this webtoon is not getting the attention it deserves. YOU WILL NOT REGRET READING THIS WEBTOON AND WILL BE QUICKLY HOOKED.
I'm not going to bother separating the story, art, characters, etc. because I really don't see the point in doing that - they are all connected anyway, and especially how readers experience the work intrinsically blurs the lines between each of these aspects.
So. THIS. IS. HILARIOUS. Starting with the first chapter I was laughing out loud, sometimes
...
so hard I was crying. The art contributes heavily to how hilarious the dialogue and action is. It's in color, since it is a Korean Webtoon, and published on the site Naver (support the author! read English overlay through Oddsquad.org), and it's a seamless scroll style publication. The characters are quite funny and of course drive the whole plot but the way the art conveys character's feelings and bits of dialogue is actually quite impressive and extensive. In this webtoon it is actually quite remarkable how each expression on a character's face changes and sort of adds a lot to the story - it's something I've not seen so detailed in many other manga or manhwa. You know, after a while it seems like the author's sense of the character's face stagnates and as they pump out chapters the face becomes an automatic construction but strangely not as detailed. This does not happen in The Dragon Next Door. And this is a real joy since the characters are so much fun to imagine/watch/see/read interacting with each other. And the story is actually really really great too, but I can't talk so much about it because I am a spoiler person and I'm trying not to let slip anything big. BUT YOU WILL NOT REGRET READING THE DRAGON NEXT DOOR.
OPEN UP A NEW TAB, WINDOW, W/E AND GET YOURSELF OVER TO ODDSQUAD, AND READ IT READ IT READ IT!!!!
YOUR LIFE WILL BE HAPPY, IF ONLY BRIEFLY!! But hey, you don't have to take my word for it, just try reading the first chapter, it's really not that much effort and The Dragon Next Door will be so much better on other manga-type thing you were planning to spend time read SO JUST READ TDND INSTEAD, OK?! This is the kind of story that you will get cravings for, like chocolate cravings, or comfort cravings, to read at odd moments of the day, you'll say to yourself, goddammit why don't they have the next 37 chapters translated into english yet, I need to know the name of the pink haired dragon lady and blah blah blah.
But srsly, you will be so happy that some obscenely positive review online spooked your interest and you decided to mozy on over to Oddsquad scanlations and look at it. It will improve your life and mental status, and really, what more can we ask for?
