Loved it; would rewatch; would recommend.
It might just be because it's been a long time since I've seen an anime set in high school, but I really enjoyed what this show had to offer. I went into it thinking it would offer a perspective on gender identity issues, which honestly made me hesitant based on worries that it would come off like an unwanted sermon. While it does touch on such issues, it never felt like I was being talked at. Heck, it might have been a more interesting story had it gone deeper into the gender issues.
Rather than get stuck on the gender issues,
...
the episodes usually feel like hanging out with a bunch of misfits who turn out to be pretty fun. I love the main character, Megumi Amatsuka. She can be rough and tough at times, or elegant and gentle at other times. She's very pretty without being particularly sexualized. Based on the whole gender aspect, I expected a lot more fanservice, but what's there is all pretty tastefully done. You could totally watch this with your parents and not get interrogated. In contrast to the lack of overt sexualization, there was a whole lot more fighting than I expected. I'm a sucker for fights in non-battle anime, so that was a bit of an unexpected surprise.
This anime isn't particularly ambitious in any category, but for reminding me just how much fun anime can be, I want to give it a 10/10. It's no emotional rollercoaster or anything like that, but every episode was an absolute joy to watch. It can be really exciting at times, but never stressful. I feel like this will eventually become a comfort show for me personally.
