I watched this, expecting a drama/emotional kinda anime, and I mean, it was pretty much that. But also, the harem.
STORY
The routes of VN had to be condensed into a single route. I guess that was done pretty well, and I didn't find the story boring or anything. It was definitely engaging, but I do enjoy romance, so YMMV. What I didn't like, however, was the harem around Tomoya. I absolutely hate harem but this series was bearable because I knew who was going to win, and getting through this in order to have the background for After Story is definitely worth it.

you'd expect it to be decent, and it is. My only problem is the massive eyes on the female characters.
SOUND
Dango, dango, dango, dango, dango daikazoku~
The OST is not in the way, it just kinda is in the background amplifying emotional scenes when it needs to. Also, Dango daikazoku is literally the best song ever.
CHARACTERS
The characters are (apart from dango daikazoku) the best part of this anime. They're realistic and make sense, well, mostly. Sunohara being able to survive being beaten up so much, like ??? And Tomoyo's family is not really that realistic.
ENJOYMENT
I enjoyed it, but it wasn't a 10/10 CRITICZ ACCLAIM anime. If you go in expecting to get backstory for AS without playing VN, then you won't be disappointed or surprised. AS, however, is amazing. Anyone can get through this in order to get to AS.
OVERALL
This series on its own is a 7 to 8, it's nothing amazing, but it's decent. Most people will watch this because of AS, and I guess it kinda lowers your expectations so AS wows you more.
