Saikyou no Shienshoku "Wajutsushi" de Aru Ore wa Sekai Saikyou Clan wo Shitagaeru

When I was first (unwillingly) introduced to this series, I was half expecting it to be yet another clan building anime with the different types of party development shenanigans. It has therefore come to me as a pleasant surprise in how the direction of the anime has gone in the development of the protagonist.

The highlight of the anime must go to the protagonist Noel, who is portrayed as cunning, ruthless and unforgiving. This is coupled with the execution of the anime whereby the protagonist is trying to form the "strongest" clan. The stories ... were mostly elaborated while also added flavour to the ruthlessness of the protagonist, while also executed with satisfactory animation and music.

On the other hand, it must be said that this anime would lose its core if the protagonist is removed. Most of the side characters felt dull and replaceable, and due to the nature of the anime there were even frequent changes in these side characters. Coupled with the controversial personality of the protagonist, I would say this anime is pretty selective on its audience. If you are not a fan of the protagonist, I would definitely not recommend the anime as it is most likely be a torture to you.

Hyouken no Majutsushi ga Sekai wo Suberu 5/10

There are certain tropes in the anime that are too overly used, inevitably making them dull and repetitive, and this anime is no different. The characters, story settings and story developments do not feel original that is exquisite to this anime.

Story: Battle Academy that utilise magical powers, with the protagonists developing after overcoming different challenges...I may have watched some other anime somewhere else with a similar story. Although I can see efforts from the director to make it as interesting as it can (The muscular mates part is a highlight)

Character: Ray White, the main protagonist, has a few ... amusing characteristics (such as loving a build-ups session of two with his muscular mates) but that's about it. Most of the other characters just do not stand out. I can barely recognise the character names until approaching the end of the anime.

Art: Average at best, with horror moments here and there.

Sound: Nothing that is particular worth mentioning. I am skipping both OP and ED after listening once anyway.

Enjoyment: For several episodes, I was constantly looking at the progress bar to see if it is ending. That pretty much sums it up.

No wonder how you attempt to turn the direction to as attractive as it can get, the overused underlying plot is not going to bring out more appeal to the audience. Certainly appreciate the efforts from the director to make the narrative as interesting as it can get, but the problem of this anime lies way beyond the direction.

Usually, it is really rare for me to pick up an anime which I am not familiar with the source that the anime is adapted on. However due to a unique opportunity, I have managed to begin "Seven Knights Revolution: Eiyuu no Keishousha". With a low expectation prior to watching, it turns out to be a pleasant surprise.

Story 6/10

The story starts with Faria, the head of the Seven Knights, met Nemo, a teenager with an unknown identity, in an abandoned village. Faria was trying to search for survivors that were threatened by “The forces of Destruction". In between, Faria, and surprisingly, Nemo, both summoned the ... power of a hero from the past and became “successors” to defeat the monsters from the forces of Destructions. Thereafter, Nemo joined Faria to the be one of the members of the Seven Knights in order to save the world from the invasion from the forces of Destructions.

Viewing from overall, I would say it is an adequately written story. It is far from any sorts of spectacular, though it also does not have many plot holes that caused the story to break down. Each character serves a purpose in developing the plot, and not to mention a few plot twists that build up the excitement towards the finale. However, it is not without any flaws. There are several occasions where the motives of characters became unclear due to the insufficient foreshadowing, and the biggest problem lies to the protagonist, Nemo, in his contrast of characters between the beginning and latter part of the story.

Character 7/10

This has been the main factor that add the appeal of the show for me. Although never came across with the game’s design, each character has an outfit that shapes his identity well. I personally really like the academy outfit, especially with Faria. Some of the designs with the villains are also attractive that makes me feel bad when they were defeated in a swift fashion.

Art 6/10

In general, the art is on point. At first I had expected poor animations with a lot of static frames in between but it turns out to be completely wrong. There are actually few episodes with decent arts and smooth fighting sequences, such as Episode 1, 9 and 12. The not-so-good episodes, such as Episode 4, 6 and 10, are also acceptable. The 3D models deployed is OK and the colour scales used is also not disturbing. There exists static frames heres and theres, but in overall doesn’t affect the watching experience too much.

Music 6/10

I would actually think this is the weakest part of the show. Both the opening and ending are forgettable and I tend to skip them every time. The BGMs used in the scenes are just average and it is a pity that the music actually fails to catch up the standard of the art sometimes. That being said, I really like the theme of Eunomia, who Faria always hums.

VA 7/10

Like the art, it is satisfactory. The cast has a mix of fresher and more experienced VAs, with the experienced VAs taking up the responsibility of the heroes. To my surprise, this show featured some VAs that I have actually not heard for a while, such as Matsumoto Rika, Morikawa Toshiyuki and Itou Kentarou. The VA of Nemo, Yamashita Daiki, who we all know very well with Deku, played a more calmed personality here and it is a refreshing experience as well.

Overall 7/10

Games adaptations, especially mobile games adaptations, are usually subject to really intense scrutiny when it comes to anime on whether the production is executed faithfully to the source materials. But we should not forget that an anime adaption also serves to let new watchers to attract more into the source materials. As an audience who has never touched this game before, I think this show has done an adequate job to attract me to dive more into the knowing more about the universe of the mobile game itself.
