Wow, okay. I have just finished reading all of the available Dandadan chapters, and I feel like I need to put my thoughts somewhere.
First, let me say that I am not someone who read this because of its connections to other manga. I only found out the author was an assistant to manga like Chainsaw Man after beginning Dandadan. So keep in mind that my opinion isn't swayed by bias.
Dandadan is really fucking weird, man. But it takes that strangeness in stride. Dandadan is not just weird for the sake of weirdness. It seems to be trying to build a unique world that

This manga was a lot more wholesome than I was expecting. I mean, look at that cover image. The opposite of wholesome, some would say.
And yet, this manga is wonderfully cute and comfortable. The story is not particularly original, but it makes up for it in almost every other aspect. The characters are loveable and the artwork is wonderful. It is by no means a masterpiece. Take what I just said about its story. After reading it, while I did enjoy it, I really do think this would be much better in a properly flashed out series, rather than a oneshot. It's very clear that there's more to this world, but there isn't enough time for the story to develop them. All the positives of this manga are a double-edged sword ... Apr 29, 2021
Mieruko-chan
(Manga)
add
Mieuruko-chan is rather unique. It's a story about monstrous spirits that has little to no action whatsoever. There are definitely shows and manga that have taken unique spins on the idea of spirits–such as MP100–but none in the way that Mieuruko-chan has, at least from my experience.
Of course, a unique idea does not guarantee an interesting story, but this manga does not fail there either. Mieruko-chan being (mostly) episodic works for its own favour very well, exploring a lot of different ideas and settings. However, there are two areas that Mieruko-chan excels at above all else: character building and comedy. ESPECIALLY character building. The ... |
