It looks like your standard sappy romance manga but it's not!
I don't write a lot of reviews but I think it's a shame that this great manga has such a low score. I think that is largely due to misunderstanding the story and the characters.
Hakushaku to Yousei tells the story of a fairy doctor (a person who can see and communicate with fairies) and a man searching for a fairy-related treasure. The story is original and well told. The artwork in this manga is consistently beautiful. The backgrounds are detailed, the action scenes are easy to understand and the side characters have individuality. The mangaka also does a great job of allowing the artwork to tell the story rather than relying on excessive dialogue.
Though most of the characters have a hint of cliche, their development and their personalities are interesting. Even though I've seen their "types" in other manga, it was easy for me to fall in love with Aidou and Zero because of their stories and presentation. Unfortunately, as the manga progresses you'll see that the characters' personalities are greatly affected ...

I hesitated to read this manga because the website I was on tagged it as "smut." There is some nudity and there is sexual tension but it is not overwhelming.
The main characters are an oblivious guy and a moderately insecure gal. I appreciate the fact that the female lead had reasonable thoughts and reactions to everything that happened or didn't happen between her and her love interest. And, to top it all off, the story is very, very amusing. I laughed the entire way through. The drawbacks to this story are it's brevity and it's pacing. I understand that you can ...

This was a very enjoyable read. Technically, it can be classified as a harem, but it certainly defies the connotations of that genre. The romantic development between the the protagonist and her love interest is very straight-forward. The secondary male characters really don't show any romantic interest in the heroine.
The characters are developed beyond the expected cliches, but their backgrounds don't detract from the overall story. The art is not stunning, but it's not bad either. There aren't a bunch of fancy backgrounds or stylish clothes, but the character designs are distinct. I really like the simplicity and honesty of this ... |
