After finishing this final episode, I went back to the very beginning and re-watched everything, including the movies & Liz and the Blue Bird. It was a real journey for Kumiko as well as ourselves as viewers! I had forgotten that they got bronze the first time. And those two group photos from bronze to gold really speak a lot.
There seems to be a lot of references in this season as well as previous seasons that I had not noticed before. For example, the callback from the last episode to the first episode opening scene is really genius. I really liked how Tuba-kun is shown
...
in the last ep as worn-out to depict time passing but they did not zoom in in the first ep to give the ambiguity feeling. Also, there's that hairpin on Kumiko's clipboard. That's a really nice touch to tie-up a minor plot point.
All in all, I just simply enjoyed all of the music scenes. It was a shame that we didn't get to listen to the regional and Kansai competitions, but it was still satisfying to at least hear the nationals played. It took two seasons to get to nationals in their first year lol, which imo is a good pace. Regardless, I believe that this season serves as a great conclusion to Kumiko's high school journey. I don't think they're gonna have another anime in Kumiko's perspective, but maybe we can get one from the perspective of another main character in the future?
Throughout this whole series, what touched me the most is the Liz and the Blue Bird movie, and hearing them play that piece at the end of movie 3 really speaks a lot. Hibike! Euphonium is a series that can be enjoyed once to simply enjoy the art as well as the music, but I know that I can re-watch the series again and discover connecting plot points and a deeper meaning to many scenes that I had missed the first time through.
