Drifting from the usual ever-complicated-deep-as-the-pacific genre that i watch,i found myself glued to a screen for a slice of life owing to 2 reasons.Firstly, the aesthetic value of the art was sufficiently high to get me intrigued;and secondly i thought that the cat in the poster would transform to a cutie, owing to the name of the series.
Now coming to the story(yes, unlike the other slice of lifes it actually has one!),it involves a linear display of events taking place in the 'normal' life of a high school guy living in a facility meant for 'problem children' after a girl(Mashiro) who cannot even change her underclothings herself transfers

into the facility.Seemingly, the sakurasoû housed people with talent;Misaki, the usual overcheerful upperclassmen with the unusual talent of 'making' anime which buys her nationwide fame;Jin,a seemingly playboyish personality who writes the script for misaki and is struck by an inferiority complex due to her superiority;and Ryuunosuke, who is a 'famous' software developer.Wait,i think i forgot to introduce our usual delinquent teacher Chihiro, who is the apt example of desperate-foul-mouthed teachers we see these days. Our protagonist Sorata's life gets hectic once the 'mashiro duty' falls upon him.ranging from laundry to cooking, our guy does everything he can amidst believing that mashiro could do nothing without him.'I have drawn pictures.',the words uttered by mashiro once asked about what she had done in her life didn't made an impact on our hero until he finds out that mashiro is an internationally acclaimed painter prodigy! This is where the show takes a turn that sorts it out from others of it's kind. The story transforms from a usual light hearted comedy to something with a darker tone. The story tries to convey the emotions of those who are not 'gifted' by birth but had to struggle their way through the paranoia and not entirely fails its purpose. The intermingled thoughts of love and jealousy,of romance and hate blended together with a lighter colour of comedy brings out the series just well on the canvas. The character development of certain characters was commendable(like rita and mashiro)but certain others left no mark(like chihiro where the only thing that stood out was her titties.)The story, too, progressed non-erranously and reached a conclusive ending which is hard yet easy to accept.(you cannot defy fate, can you?well, maybe yes in anime but not in this one.)To say the least,Sakurasou no pet na kanojô left an impression on me and strengthened my resolve to explore new genre. It wasn't a steins;gate but it wasn't a chaos;head either. In the time when new series are popping up like toads on a rainy day,it is definetely a worthy watch.Lastly, for those of you into slice of life,it might turn out to be real star.later,then.
