This was one of the most pleasant surprises I got to experience in 2013. Since I just got into anime in the beginning of 2013, I saw that Kotaku listed Devil is a PT as one of the 5 spring 2013 anime that one should watch.
I figure, hey, 13 episodes isn't much, let's give this a shot. Turns out I marathoned this anime in 2 days since it was just so much fun for me. The first episode has a bit more violence and is darker in tone than the rest of the anime, especially during the first 7 minutes or so, but I'd say
...
other than that, this anime is suitable for PG-13 and up. Younger children will probably not understand some of the jokes in this anime.
The concept of this anime is very fresh, and thus very enjoyable. I found it drastically different than the usual school-based or workplace settings that are commonplace in other anime.
All the characters (Maou, Yusha, and his minions and coworkers) all get a lot of valuable screen-time, and hardly any of the screen-time is wasted in my opinion. There is a bit of fan service in this anime, but it's not overused in my opinion.
The art, animation quality, and sound are pretty typical. Nothing in the audio-visual department will WOW you, but they get the job done. Besides, the script and the banter amongst characters are what make this anime so darn appealing.
If I could say one thing, it's that the last episode in this series ends abruptly. There's no real closure to anything, and I can only hope for a season 2 that's in the works whenever the light novel has enough content to warrant a season 2.
A solid 9 out of 10 overall from me. If it wasn't for the sudden ending, this would easily be a 10 just for sheer enjoyment purposes.

So I first heard about Coppelion through Kotaku's anime preview list, and the premise intrigued me. Then, as the series went on, on CrunchyRoll there were a lot of people who thought this was one the most disappointing anime they've ever seen, and how it's pretty darn bad. Note: I have never read the original manga material, so I do not know how the anime compares to that, so I'll be reviewing the anime on its own.
Well, I disagree. First, let's talk about the goods.
1) The artwork and style is truly fantastic. The characters pop, details are easily visualized on screen, and it has that
...
grey-ish filter that makes everything look post-apocalyptic. When we get to a change of green scenery, the viewer can definitely see a drastic difference between what's been damaged by the nuclear incident and what nature has done to repair itself.
2) I really enjoy the OP and ED by Angela. The voice actors and actresses all do a pretty good job portraying their respective characters too.
3) The pacing is pretty good. Each episode always ends in excitement, so at least for me, I was excited to next week's episode.
4) Story is acceptable for what's going on. I don't think the anime is portraying itself as being a very realistic and serious series, so the occasional gags and jokes aren't out of place in my opinion. Others however, thought the opposite. Some think there's too many illogical instances that go in stark contrast to what the anime is trying to portray.
What I didn't like
1) Characters don't really develop throughout the series. Nearly everybody is one-dimensional (at least until the climax), and some viewers may find Aoi really annoying. But, I think she was funny and cute. On the contrast, if people have seen Anohana, I thought Menma was much more annoying than Aoi.
2) As a result of the characters not really developing, the viewer doesn't really connect emotionally to the characters, especially when things, both good or bad, happen to them.
3) Story could have been done better with a tighter script, but this is a minor fault.
So overall, I enjoyed this anime. Therefore I'd give it a 7/10. It's not a masterpiece by any means, but I enjoyed it through and through, and would definitely watch season 2 if that were to ever come out.

I first heard about this anime from a friend, who couldn't stop praising it. I looked it up on Wikipedia and it's plot seemed intriguing, so I thought heck, let's give this a shot.
Well...it IS a good anime, but only after the first 11 episodes. After watching the first episode I had no idea what was going on, but I stuck through it due to word of mouth from my friend and how this was supposed to be one of the top-rated anime of 2011.
Around episode 11, the pace finally picked up, and the story got very exciting and engaging and didn't let up
...
until the end of the series. The series' plot is well-done science fiction, and it reminded me of classic sci-fi films such as Back to the Future. There weren't any significant logic holes or plotholes of that sort.
The artwork was great, the OP and EDs were good too, and the characters were all likable, and each had their own charms and quirks.
Thinking back on retrospect, I feel like the first 11 episodes could have been condensed into just 5 episodes, as I didn't really enjoy the same repeating jokes a few of the characters make amongst another, and this happened a LOT, and as a result, took up a lot of screen time.
So overall, I give this series a 7. If it wasn't for the uneven and super slow pacing, I would easily rate this a 9.
