86 reminds me a lot of Attack on Titan, as it should with Sawano composing the soundtrack. Very strong character moments set the tune of intense music in what feels like a modern day mecha. The good moments heavily overshadow my issues with the show, the mediocre story and poor world building.

The animation is decent. I didn't really like the realistic CG approach they took for the juggernauts but i didn't really hate it either. A-1 defiantly excelled with the character interactions most and I applaud this as Ishii's directorial debut.

A really good start to 86 and I hope the series sets its scope ... large enough to rival Attack on Titan. If the 2nd cour shows enough promise I might consider picking up the light novels.

Very short one-shot. Only get to see one panel of the protagonist from Assassins Creed Valhalla and he doesn't speak. Most of it is young Thorfinn chasing him through a forest. Cant really say I feel like this was worth making unless Ubisoft wanted some crosspollination between otaku and gamers. (Personally am both.) It would be cool to see it expanded on but would never ask for it because i would rather have more Vinland Saga. Maybe this would make better poster art than a one-shot.

Assassins Creed Manga would be sick though

Kind of hard to write more about such a short manga with almost ... no plot.

I really wanted to like this show. The OP was good, the animation was dope, the fights were decent. But it just felt like the show expected me to like and understand the characters so early on. I really wouldn't of understood who some of the servants had I not watched it with a fate veteran. Understanding who some of the servants were gave me some enjoyment because then i knew some of their backstory.

The summoners really hurt me the most. As a GoT/ASOIaF fan I expected to enjoy getting to know the summoners and who they represent. Instead we got right into the ... fight for the holy grail, and while this introduced us to the servants early on it felt like the summoners got the shaft till s2.

It is probably obvious now that i started fate with fate/zero because of my complaints about the lack of backstory. Writing this review before watching more of fate because i think its kind of odd how highly held this series is when its is really difficult to get into.
