One thing stands out upon the first couple of episodes: This anime will educate you but doesn't necessarily a plot to go off of.
Unlike the remake in 2024, this version is more of a single-episode storyline. Each episode has its own plot line but with trivia of the liquor in question for that episode sprinkled in. Not only about liquor, the viewer will also learn about the life of bartending and the various faces a bartender will serve.
The art style is plain, to say the least. The budget for this anime clearly went into the bottles of liquor and the said liquor being poured
...
into the glasses.
Many of the characters have been boiled down to educating the viewer, not really providing any impact to the plot, the main character being the only exception to this rule, as he is the one who owns the main setting: Eden Hall. The side characters randomly appearing can be confusing in the beginning but the viewer will adjust quickly to this formula.
The one-story elements are hit and miss. After the said side characters make their debut, they are immediately put to the side the next episode to take on the educator role. Some side characters are also forgotten entirely and we don't see them again after their episode ends. This could be due to the bar setting as customers come and go, however when you provide them interesting backstories without going into more depth, it leaves much to be desired.
This will peek the interest of those who wish to learn more about the bar business but if you are looking for the a gourmet anime with story, I recommend checking out the 2024 remake.
