*This review is for the 3 full seasons of the series*
From the beginning of this series, I never thought I would get to the point of writing something about a specific one, how it made me feel, and what it might convey to me at the end.
I have come to thousands of different conclusions every time I saw it again, thinking about how the author wanted me to see and understand what he was showing me, and I simply refused to read the light novel, I wanted to discover it with an adaptation that was obviously not complete, that did not finish filling some gaps
...
in words with hidden meanings, and I feel proud of myself for having understood and valued it. However, reading the novel is a very different path from what I am going to talk about next, and I am going to move on to what really interests us: the series itself.
I'll start talking about the main characters and what they made me feel within the series:
-Hikigaya Hachiman: a boy I could understand, but I couldn't identify with him, a person who lived on his own, alone, isolated, completely adrift in his own nihilistic and carefree mentality, a person who tries not to be in society on his own, a clear and concise image of self-contempt, no one could believe that he could help people on his own, he wouldn't care about anyone, and that's not easily changed, much less with simple words. At the beginning of the series he shows his personality in simple literature works, and thanks to his teacher he ends up in a club where his main role is to deal with what he has less experience with: interacting, helping, to what end, none, the simple fact of helping people who need a hand, one way or another to solve a problem. It may be strange that a boy changes so much just because he enters a club, but if this is mixed with the life of a 17 year old teenager, maybe this is not only due to his activity but also to his club mates and all the things he learns thanks to them and his teacher, one never stops learning when it comes to people's feelings, and that is clear since he himself does not understand these, getting to the point of putting as an excuse a club to act for the people who, unconsciously, started to protect and help on their own.
Although this character has been seen before, I have never seen one who maintains his twisted attitudes to the point of expressing himself as he did before going through all that happens in the series and story, and simply never being able to express well something that we human beings believe is easy to say and show: love.
-Yukino Yukinoshita No one can be perfect, and that's what a character trying to show is trying to prove by shouting at you that she is perfect, but inside she's suffering every time she expresses it. Honestly, at the beginning she doesn't show his problems so thoroughly, when someone gets the best grades and has the best behavior as far as responsibility is concerned, our first prejudice may be that we think it's a person with his life fixed and made, So much talent for hard work makes us think that that person is not going to live complicated situations in its life, but she is here to break that prejudice, where feelings and family relationships come in, when everything is twisted and faded by the simple fact of not being attached to anyone and distrusting everyone equally, not believing in the authenticity of people and their true intentions, is something that has happened to all of us at least once, but; Can you imagine living with that throughout your adolescence? , Yukinoshita is a clear example of what mistrust and loneliness is, however, unlike Hachiman, this attitude was created based on her past relationships, the fear of the damage that someone could generate, she never wanted to go through the same thing, that's why trusting people was not an option in these cases, it's really not something I can understand perfectly, but I can put myself in her shoes and say that it's not something nice to feel.
When someone comes into your life and you lower it so much to the point of almost mutual hatred, you may not really believe that person will influence your life, let alone for good, since for bad there is a higher probability, but when everything happens within an environment of mutual support and acceptance, things are very different, the prejudices of each one led them to the revelation that they are almost similar, but at the same time very different, this is how a relationship is formed in the beginning, a relationship that she believed would never come, but that rarely appeared in front of her eyes in the form of a "monster", nobody knows what the future holds, that is why she never believed that something like this would happen, it is as impressive for her, as it is for us.
-Yui Yuigahama: A happy person is what it is, a person who is simply happy or who acts like one, just by feeling happiness and trying to spread it, but how empty do you have to be inside to fake it on certain occasions? Yuigahama shows the good side, to Yukino and Hachiman, and to us she tells in first person her suffering, her discomfort and her worries, what a happy and adorable girl hides behind the scenes can be much stronger and more tedious than what a sad and bitter person hides, only that appearances make his job better known: to hide. At the beginning of the series, I couldn't believe that a character could be so disgustingly good and happy with someone she barely knew, so much that she gave him a nickname in their first conversation: "Hikky", how many times have we heard that and been happy to see her on screen, it's just something that can't be helped, we are filled with joy by her tone and her motivation to do things, she is not afraid to express herself and say what she thinks and understands, you can't hate a person like her, and yet the author makes us rejoice in anger and rage at how he labels her a "nice girl" and that's why she does what she does, when deep down, there are more important things than the simple fact of kindness and good manners, When we understood this, we realized why things happened, we simply had to admire her for her willpower and that the title of "good" was too short, so much so that we had to look for superior reasons to explain her way of being, and sooner or later, we found them, the guilt she felt and all that the series is showing us, that she can live with that and live with the people she loves is simply an admirable act. , I'm more than sure that we couldn’t be that strong... at least not in her age and situation.
The mixture of emotions that this anime generates is something that nowadays we would not understand easily, many people would take it as something boring or tedious, slow, and simply cannot say anything about it, everyone has their opinions and their ways of seeing things, however it is a very interesting coin toss, either you earn something very valuable for your life, or you simply cross it out of something ordinary or boring, no side is wrong, they are simply ways of seeing life, in my case, I have taken very personally everything that has happened throughout the 38 chapters and I could come to believe that love is something much deeper than what we believe and think, the simple act of loving and being loved makes us believe that it is something that we can take lightly, and that it is born from oneself quickly and becomes everyday acts, That's one of the reasons why this series calls my attention so much, to show falling in love in a totally different way, and to create a different atmosphere around 3 people where selfishness and self-complacency prevail, to shape a story where everything connects in a perfect and concise way.
To draw a quick conclusion, this story made me more interested in literature in general, and what can transmit something written only makes me want to be as original as the person who created this, and to be able to get to others something that is out of series or that has never been seen before, because that is Oregairu, a story that you won't see anywhere else, where the genre "romantic comedy" is ridiculous next to it, and that it mixes with other stories more cliché and oriented to the usual only diminishes its repercussion to the point of being almost invisible, I have made all the possible efforts to recommend this to my closer people and friends, so that they can share the same thing that I do, and I have been successful in most of the times, and everything thanks to that this story exists, I can share thoughts and opinions with close people about something so complicated and rare as it is the love itself.
This story didn't change my life, it just changed my vision and perspective on a specific topic, but if you really have the time and can take the pleasure to read it, see it or both, do it, maybe it will generate something stronger, and the fact of feeling identified with something just increases the possibilities of it, in this anime, there is a lot of room for that kind of things, this is my simple perspective, and I want to share it just to encourage more people to look/read something like this.
