While it might not be something every Saki viewer would like I still think it deserves a recommendation to most viewers. The constant references to Nodoka's breasts certainly remind me of similar events in regards to Mai-HiME's protagonist Mai. Mai-HiME has the same high school setting, but whilst Saki keeps it that way Mai-HiME changes into something more more along the lines of sic-fi/supernatural. It also gets quite a bit darker then Saki, though that isn't very hard given the light hearted feel of the anime. The amount of yuri undertones are about the same though I would rate Mai-HiME's as a bit higher given that there is actually a kiss between two of the girls near the end of the series. Overall it's a good anime and I think any Saki viewer would enjoy it

Toaru Kagaku no Railgun

Since I saw Mai-HiME had already been added as a recommendation I thought I should add this one too, considering it's the closest thing to a sequel Mai-HiME has. In fact I would say that that Mai-Otome bears a closer resemblance to Toaru Kagaku no Railgun then Mai-HiME. Either way both are a good idea to watch if you enjoyed Toaru Kagaku no Railgun.

Despite the more sic-fi like genre in Mai-HiME the yuri and slice of life are seen in both series. In Mai-HiMe it is a lot more subtext. It is only later on that the relationships/love between characters becomes a lot more clear though it is not viewed upon as favourably. Shizuru in particular remind me a lot of Shizuma in their similar school/social standing as well as their flirtatious attitudes though one is far less featured then the other. Either way it is a great show and I do recommend it.

It’s time to ditch the text file.
